Glad to see a wallpaper thread without silly rainmeter elitists. Here's my current one. I'm pretty OCD about the icon placement, so they might move but who knows.
" Yeah, I know what you're thinking. American Idiot came out in 2004. It seemed to be getting a lot of buzz lately, however. Not being familiar with it, the fact there was a musical based on it surprised me. Amazon had a special the other day and was selling the album for four dollars, so I decided to check it out. I was really impressed. I didn't realize there was a story being told in the album. I'd heard songs off the album before, but never in the way they were meant to be listened to. That must have been the reason Green Day never really hooked me before. You can't listen to this album on its own. It's like a good movie. It's meant to be taken in its it entirety during one sitting. The story of Jesus of Suburbia (i.e. finding purpose in the meaningless) and how he meets St. Jimmy (rebellion without cause) and Whatsername (life driven by love and self-actualization) really caught me. You don't see a lot of this in music today, even in rock. I think it really represents how a lot of teenagers feel. Sure, it's angsty and kind of emo, but sometimes it feels like it's hard to figure out where your life should be going. Even when alternatives present themselves (like "Whatsername" and "St. Jimmy") we either don't have the courage to take them or they are as meaningless as where you originally were. Anyway, loved the album. Glad I finally got to check it out. "
It's true that the whole concept-album feel was interesting and it was different for them, but I thought it was a bit forced in places and I will always prefer their earlier music to that album.
" Rise Against is the band in question. I started listening to it last night after my flatmate said they are pretty good. It's not normally my kind of music as I'm more into industrial / goth. But so far, even thought the song writing is super dry and a little juvenile, it's not that bad. It seems a silly question, but are these guys in the same kind of lame outsetting as 'My Chemical Romance' or anything? "
I agree with the general idea of, "if you like it listen to it" but I can tell you that Rise Against have a lot more musical talent than My Chemical Romance if that's important to you at all. They're one of my favorite bands, glad people are still discovering their stuff.
