I love Dan's constant anecdotes about how he was a total moron that couldn't grasp concepts beyond running and jumping as a kid. How the hell is Kirby's floating confusing to anyone?! Did he grow up locked in a cage?

I think it's really great that Dan always seems genuinely interested in learning new things.

Indeed. If everyone openly acknowledged what they were actually ignorant about instead of pretending they know everything and were always open to learning what they don't know, we'd have a much more pleasant society. Dan might be ignorant on many things, but his willingness to genuinely learn puts him above most people I'd like to hang around with.

I started enjoying the game vastly more when I switched the combat to "Basic Touch+Buttons." The touch-only shit was killing me, because I'm always at max cards, and the attacks I want to use are never shown first, so I'd swipe multiple times just to get to the goddamn card I wanted to use.

With the Basic Touch+Buttons method, you can just use the D-Pad and buttons to handle all combat functions, you just hold left to (very quickly, much faster than swiping) scroll left, then up to select your card, A to fill it with paint if you want and another up to launch your attack. It's still more than it needs to be, but it's about 50x faster than using the clumsy touch crap.

This shit could've been way less clumsy even with touch if they simply stacked cards. Why do I need to scroll through literally all 30 of my Jump cards? There's no point. There should be a single Jump card with an "x30" under it. When I select it, it should allow me to THEN choose a painted one, or an empty one for me to paint myself.

But a normal ass turn-based combat system would've been even better.

This game is all about you being invested and interested in the world, and enjoying all the little activities and chatting with people and doing side stuff, and mundane stuff. If you're not down for that, it's a really really poor choice of game. It's also handy to have the manual, the reading of which was much more common back in 1999. Doesn't excuse obvious design flaws, but hey, it was doing something new, so that's to be expected and was obviously remedied in later iterations.

Dunno how they borked this, but setting the game to low priority in the task manager (annoying, but only takes a few seconds and should be easily patched) completely fixes all the stuttering.

Also, don't run that dynamic optimization BS, that's garbage.

I want this game despite how maddening it was watching Brad rush through in order to keep the QL at a reasonable length.

Yeah I've kind of complained about that for years now. The GB crew oftentimes will try to make the QL too "video friendly," i.e. as much action as possible, as much "moving forward" as possible. While in a lot of games that's a good thing, that's the complete opposite of this game. No one sticking with this video is sitting there going "Boy I sure hope these puzzles are so stupid easy that the guys never got stuck for a single second."

We got like... hour and a half long quick looks for shit like Black Ops, where it's just shoot guy shoot guy shoot guy, but something a little deeper gets cut short for not being "video friendly." It really confuses me. I get that it's different people making the videos, and different games and blah blah blah, but it's okay to take it slow sometimes, guys!

Dan thinking he could take on a wild wolf, is still insane.

One wolf, sure he would. Barely a hundred pounds, can only bite, bite limbs, blunt claws.

You get a hold of one of those legs and pull it violently sideways and upward, especially the back hip, dead wolf.

Yeah, I think most damage from dogs comes from people trying to flee instead of fight. Dogs aren't exactly well designed to fight humans. That's not to say you won't get the shit bit out of you, but I've been attacked by (and had to fight) a dog before, grab that fuckin' paw (they jump at you with their paws extended to try to knock you over) and flip them over, then you can just hold them down on their back with your arm barring their head/neck and they're basically helpless.

Multiple dogs or wolves, you're in some deep shit.

This is all for a relatively skinny dog, I have no idea if it would be any different against something like a bulldog or pit bull or something, and I wouldn't wanna find out. But I'll take my chances fighting over running, you ain't outrunning a dog.

It's still the weirdest story I personally can tell, who the hell has to fight a dog that isn't like, running from the cops?!

This was bad and weird. I expected tremendously better presentation and games from Sony.
