@zoeytrope: It sadly doesn't. At least it didn't when I played it last time. The controls are set up to work better with a mouse so you can aim with your arms and not with your torso like in old games. I also use x52 and I think the best I got out of it was with the original il-2. It's really fun to attack bombers in that.
Speaking as a different Russian I have to say this issue is really upsetting. Especially with the way this country has been developing over the years. COH2's campaign was a bit over the top with focusing on the war crimes and having the terrible Hollywood soviets in it as characters didn't help, especially after the first game being about as serious as Saving Private Ryan. I also have the utmost respect for people who fought in the war and seeing them portrayed so unfavorably feels pretty gross (even though I can't deny the actual war crimes that have been committed, but you can't paint the whole army of which millions have been killed with the same brush). On the other hand however this petition and the result of it is just terrible. Even making me a bit scared for my future here. If this is the way majority feels here we could end up in a horrible regime again and I sure as hell don't want that.
I really don't see trhe comparison and find it misleading for people who are looking for something like Eva. This is way more classic super robot mecha show than Eva's deconstructive approach to the genre. From the design of robots to the style of action to just the general tone of the movie it has nothing to do with Eva. Perhaps it comes from the popularity of Evangelion in the west and lack of popularity of more traditional super robot shows but I would even say that Robot Jox is a way more direct influence than Eva. I love the movie and really hope we get more live action giant robots in the future but for the love of God let the Eva stuff go.
