I don’t understand the way some people of the GB staff (and community) have been reacting to this game from it’s reveal until now... For a long time they’ve been complaining about how games nowadays are all the same and saying they have no idea what Death Stranding is about and Kojima should show gameplay. Now Kojima finally shows gameplay, explains everything in-depth and it turns out he’s trying out some new concepts but they’re acting like it’s either bad or weird.

Yes, some parts still seem non-sensical and I’m happy they’re not acting like YouTubers over-reacting to everything, but Kojima literally did what they’ve been asking and some people are still complaining anyway. Damned if you do damned if you don’t, I guess...

Also, Kojima has said he only did all of this because people kept complaining about not knowing what the game is about or saying it’s just a walking sim. He originally didn’t want to show all of this and wanted to keep it all a secret for the player do discover.

Just because you do something weird and different it doesn't mean everyone is going to like it. In fact if you truly are making something that weird and different then there's no way you're not going to alienate a lot of people. Just like there will also be people that will be sold on it immediately.

If you watched this video you know Jeff and the others said on more than one occasion that they're actually glad someone like Kojima is doing this kind of thing in the AAA space. But that doesn't mean this game is necessarily going to appeal to them, especially if it ticks a lot of boxes for things you already don't like in other games.

If you really take a step back from all the Kojima hype it's not hard to see that this is basically a AAA indie game. There's people doing weird shit like this all over the indie space, and they tend to attract a very select audience. A big budget and Kojima's name can only do so much to sell a game like that to a broader audience.

@wollywoo: Terry Bogard originates in Fatal Fury, but he's been a staple and far more well known for being in King of Fighters for well over a decade. He's basically the most well known character from that fighting game series at this point, so he's not exactly a deep cut.

I say that as someone who has never played a KoF game in their life but still recognizes Terry through general gaming osmosis.

I have a sudden urge to rewatch the Ryan/Brad Deadly Premonition ER.

Funny, I had a sudden urge to rewatch the Jeff/Vinny one. I never watched the Ryan/Brad one...maybe I should?

You should. Ryan's infectious enthusiasm for the game's batshit craziness by the end makes the whole thing worth it. As a duo Ryan and Brad can't really compete with Jeff and Vinny, but Ryan seemed by far the most into the game and it's why I enjoyed their playthrough more.

@humanity: As others have said, this look is not representative of the whole game. I was out of this kind of environment in a handful of hours.

But as for scaling, I'm pretty certain the scaling only applies when progressing in the game, which feels like a necessity, given the random procedurally generated nature of the world. I wouldn't want to enter a new area and find the enemy's poorly scaled to my progress, in either direction. You can still go back to old areas and steamroll weaker enemies.

I wouldn't consider the average Souls-like a "power fantasy" though. They always feel deliberately designed to temper your sense of "power". Sure, there's that sense of accomplishment when you figure out how to beat a tough boss that plays into that, but then it takes away again when you reach a new unfamiliar area. But I would argue Remnant allows for a bit more of a "power fantasy" than a proper Souls game. It's a bit more forgiving and less oppressive in some ways.

This was the most fun I've had listening to a Bombcast in awhile. That's not meant to be a slight against the usual crew, but new perspectives and topics of discussion is a breath of fresh air.

I don't visit Gamespot, but Kallie and Michael seem like fun people.

"This is Bernadetta, she's a badass archer"

Dan... I don't think we have the same definition of "badass".

Also, to clarify you do NOT gain stars from using the weapon in combat. You gain them by teaching them that skill during the lesson sections. I believe it's 3 lessons per star.

I'd consider her pretty badass. She's terrified of everything, but still manages to murder countless people. I could only aspire to be as badass as her.

Yeah, but she's also scared of bunnies? She goes hunting in one of her supports of Petra and ends up running away from rabbits that she's hunting.

Have you not seen Holy Grail? Bunnies are vicious killers.

@the_nubster: I'd hazard a guess it's somehow related to the pain of childbirth. The ability to bring life into the world could be argued to be a form of power for women.
