Part of me was very much expecting Nappa to yell out "Faaake Neeeews!!!" during that one part.
Also Yamcha's alright. He's one of the more likeable characters in OG Dragonball. He definitely gets the shaft in Kai though. Without context it does seem like he's only there to get killed off immediately.
What annoys me about Labbo is the feeling that it’s just a “Nintendo magic” bullshit thing where if Sony or Microsoft tried this they’d be murdered by the press there’s this weird thing where Valve and Nintedo always get a weird pass like if Valve or Nintendo made the Kinect they’d be a lot more successful with the gaming press regardless of quality difference.
I don't really agree with that. I have little love for Nintendo personally, I had a Genesis growing up and my console of choice every gen after that was Playstation. I don't even like most of their main IPs, besides Zelda. But I still think Labo seems neat.
I don't necessarily disagree that Sony and Microsoft would have a hard time marketing the same thing, but that's mostly because Nintendo has spent decades cultivating a brand where something like Labo makes sense. Sony and Microsoft can't expect to compete in that market when that has never been their priority.
@alavapenguin: Mr. Popo is very clearly a caricature inspired by blackface and a lot of very racist cartoons from the early to mid 1900's, mixed with a genie/djinn. I don't believe Toriyama intended for it to be racist at all. I doubt he was even aware of the conotations at the time, but that doesn't make it okay.
I've never agreed with the "anime is for jerks" line, but "anime fans are jerks" is unfortunately often too true.
Their enthusiasm has rubbed off on me though, and I ended up jumping into Kai along with them. I'm enjoying more than I remembered, but the second half was honestly more fun. Probably why I have better memories of Dragon Ball than Dragon Ball Z.
@kid_gloves: Huh. I guess it's good to see some other perspectives, because I really didn't care for Shinada much at all. I found him to be the weakest playable character in the series by a large margin. (Didn't help that I really don't like his playstyle either.) I think I might have liked him a bit more if they had introduced him sooner, but his chapter comes right when the story really starts to pick up, and then it grinds to a halt with this random dude I don't care about that's only tangentially related to the plot.
Maybe I'm still just peeved that Akiyama got so little screentime in comparison. Shinada's got nothin' on my boy Akiyama.
@odinsmana: @kid_gloves: I'm kinda surprised. The last like fourth of 5 is where that game lost me. I kinda had to force myself to finish it. I feel like that game really lost steam after Shinada showed up.
@kid_gloves: I mean, it does, but I feel like by that point they've spent enough time easing you into the world through the new characters that it's easy enough to understand what is going on. I say that as someone who got into, and fell in love with the series with 4.
The only time I remember being completely lost is during some of Kiryu's side quests, which are just super blatant callbacks that they don't even pretend to set up or explain.
