@csl316: Monster Hunter is much much more than a 40-hour game it can be hundreds of hours

Hundreds of hours? Noooo, thank you. Okami wins!

Like I said, it doesn't have to be that long if you don't want to go in super hardcore. The main campaign is usually like 20-30 hours. After that is generally tougher versions of the same monsters that will net you better gear.

Just a few minutes in and that sounds like Matt Mercer. Not Nolan North, Jason!

Meant to say this, but yes, 99.9% sure that's Mathew Mercer. (aka fake Troy Baker.)

@venoplonk: It doesn't have to be though. I've played several MH games just through the main campaign and was satisfied with that.

@dray2k: "Generically flawless" is really not how I would describe a game like The Witcher 3. One of the main things that makes that game stand out among the deluge of open world games is how much more heart and passion is behind it.

But I get what you're saying, and I don't think "generically flawless" games are a recent phenomenon. They have been around for ages. A lot of AAA games are exactly that. They get praise in the moment for being all around solid experiences, but are soon forgotten when the next one comes out.

“Is this game a great game that you’d recommend?” and “did this game leave a lasting impact on you compared to other games released in the same calendar year?” are two very different metrics.

I can understand this i think. Like Nier: Automata would never be a game that you can straight up recommend to anyone and expect them to have a good time with. But to the people that gel with that game, it gives a lot to them.

I feel like this is something too many people fail to realize when they see a game like Automata get so much praise. A lot of people just assume it must be a flawless masterpiece everyone should love, and then end up baffled that it actually has (not insignificant) flaws.

But most of my favorite games, ones that left a lasting impression for years to come, are not that. They are games I could create a laundry list of things I would improve, but there's still something about it that connects with me enough to outweigh all of that. (I'm still surprised Persona 4 got as popular as it did, because I feel like that's one of those games.) They are games I will proclaim my love for until the day I die, and probably recommend to anyone curious to at least try, but I would never assume they will all love it. Maybe not even most of them.

There's plenty of reasons to not like Automata, but they all feel insignificant when compared to how strongly I felt about the rest of it.

Alright, I think this is a feature I can get behind.

I'm also happy to see an ongoing feature like this not be premium for a change. I know you guys gotta keep the lights on, but poor people like Giant Bomb too.

It was a bold choice mashing up a Rabbid with Ron Jeremy and putting it in a Mario game, but I commend them for it.

@jonny_anonymous: Do you put ketchup on pancakes? (Or hotcakes, or flapjacks, or whatever you call them.) Pancakes, french toast, and waffles are all basically in the same category of breakfast around here, so they're all usually topped with syrup or some kind of fruit topping. Pastries like donuts or cinnamon rolls are a close cousin.

Scrambled eggs are an entirely different category of breakfast.

As a person from the UK the idea of putting sugar on French toast is disgustingly baffling to me.

It's usually icing sugar, like many pastries have. It's pretty common, and delicious. Do you not put syrup on them?

We put ketchup or brown sauce on them and have them with fryups.

Ketchup on French Toast sounds pretty disgusting tbh. I could see a more savory sauce working in the right situation (though I doubt it could ever compete with the berry compote and custard toppings they do around here), but keep that ketchup far away.

Ketchup is allowed to mingle with my fried potatoes and that is it.
