Solid
Staring a new protagonist Alex Mercer you'll be able to slice, dice, and impale your way to find those who made you this way and quite literally tear them apart limb from limb. Along the way of course you'll run into a few obstacles to keep stuff interesting, none of which I will tell you cause I'd rather you play the game to find out.
The games story may not be one of the great video game story out there it will keep you involved by show bit's and pieces of it as you go along, but really if your playing prototype you probably will just forget about the story and every now and again you'll get lost and confused as to what the hell your supposed to be doing here and why. The game as a good way of trickle feeding you the story to keep it interesting but you'll end up forgetting a lot of things from time to time.
Now the game-world graphics are not very eye pleasing but for what the game lacks in boring buildings it makes up for just about everywhere else, scale in particular. Saying the city is VAST is an understatement, and not just horizontally but vertically which is great for the "Free-Running" aspect of the game --though in order to free-run you just pull the right trigger and go it's still cool none the less-- just the scale of this city alone and the pace at which you can run though it, you feel like your a bad ass and you own this city.
You also have plenty of ridiculous combo's and other upgradeable's to keep any God of War gore-fan happy and then some. At first I didn't think that I would be able to get use to the incredible sadistic nature of Alex's character but the longer I played I got over it then realized I've been playing for way too long and suddenly I had to go to work again. But I do enjoy an occasional brawler but if your not into brawlers then I'd still suggest to rent.
I won't really dive in to the bad parts of this game mostly cause the only problem is the rather bland look of New York and some character clipping. I also won't really talk to much about the "stealth" mechanic which really just works like any other open world game when running from the cops, but I will say that once you get past the learning curve and the city's almost last-gen graphics you really start having fun with what is a good solid game.
There really isn't anything more to say besides that which is the real problem here. The game has so many mechanics and combo's and side missions that it feels like Radical just wanted to shove as much stuff in the game as possible --which none of those things are done particularly well-- making it just almost too cluttered with all the combo's and upgrades that it tends to lack other important substances --like story and so-on-- this will make it difficult to actually want to play again unless your going after trophies. But I had so much fun killing stuff and roaming the city I can defiantly give it a 4.
This would be a great rent, but I bought it..... (man I need a gamefly acct LOL)
