Everybody says it's not a "Classic Resident Evil" game... fucking good! Have you played that first one recently? Poor control scheme and basically no gameplay... plus it's hard as fuck.
Also, Resident Evil 5 is just sooooooo much fun if you have friends

Can someone remind me why RE5 sucks?
"I find RE5 absolutely scare-free whilst RE4... perhaps a tad-bit.There was resident evil 4 which was better, I suppose if you compare re5 to re4, you sort of get an action game instead with absolutely no scare, or horror elements on any level like earlier resident evil games.

The Village at night in RE4 was at least pretty creepy. RE5 didn't have any moments like that, even when going through the caves in pitch black with the lantern, just couldn't give any fear or even suspense frankly.
Besides him contradicting himself, I really don't see the point of this topic." Can someone remind me why RE5 sucks? " (topic title)
" I've been playing RE5 on my PC and I have to say that I think this game is pretty damn awesome. " (first bit of the first sentence)
I'd really hope it doesn't suck
I sort of play it all the time with friends
in fact my cod mw2 clan tag is CWHD (crouching wesker hidden dropkick)
in honor of one of the later levels in the game

Resident Evil 4 is a horror game with action elements.
Resident Evil 5 is an action game with horror elements.
Done and done.
Gamers usually like to exaggerate their opinions on things.
Some people don't like it quite as much as most of the Professional Critics out there but no one will hear them unless they say
FUCK RESIDENT EVIL I FUCKING HATE THAT GAME ITS THE WORST GAME EVER MADE ITS NOT EVEN SCARY AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think it sucked. Having played all the Resident Evils in order it was a bit of a letdown but I guess maybe I expected too much from the setting and characters. Its a solid action game but not scary and clunky by todays standards when other games like Dead Space have come out having amazing atmosphere, action and environments.
Essentially.. RE5 is aiming to be too much of an action game but for some reason still latches on to its older convetions without really focusing on doing action particularly well through the fluidity of combat and gunplay or what the older REs did well imo which was exploration, puzzles and story. But again, just my opinion.
I had more fun playing resident evil 5 than I did resident evil 4.
It's the inclusion of cooperative mode, it adds alot to any game. I would have sunk so many hours into resident evil 4 if A buddy and I could have gone into the mercenary mode and tried to get good scores. But as it was, The mercanary was only single player and I barely touched it.
As resident evil 5 stands, sometimes my friend comes over and we literally spend all day playing resident evil 5 mercenaries.
Because RE4 blew everyone's mind. it was such a giant leap for the series, that people expected RE5 to be the next leap. People will say the controls hold it back, an while that may be true, it's just that this game feels like it doesnt know if it wants to be RE or Gears of War.
It starts out Resident Evil, but once the enemies gets guns... it's pretty much a lame version of Gears or Uncharted.
It doesn't. I would just submit that RE4 was slightly better, but I spent much more time with RE5. Its a damn good game by my opinion.
That is if the items you want are in the slots actioned by the d-pad, if not you going to fumble around with the stash. And if you're really unlucky, you'll have to call your partner, if you're really really really unlucky -playing on single player - it can be impossible, since the ai can get trapped on something and be unable to get near you. Unnecessary gripes." @DOUBLESHOCK said:

I hated the inventory, the ai and the more complicated and bothersome single player experience, as you had to juggle with the ai and the new controls. You may say it's a great/good/average game, but to me it sucks.

"Well I set the controls to classic Resi 4 (which I played the crap out of) and played co-op with my buddy, so the controls and AI issues never came up. Also, the inventory CAN be an advantage, especially in Mercenaries mode, as if you're quick enough, you can reload -for example- a shotgun whilst climbing a ladder and not have to suffer a painfully slow reload animation.
" Because RE4 and Dead Space are better... "...and because they are actually action adventure games, and not an action adventure game like RE5.
Seriously, I was so disappointed with the entire game. I was hoping to be on the edge of my seat, but I just beat it for the sake of seeing it through and now I will trade the game in this weekend for something else... maybe Dragon Age.

I'm not even a huge fan of the RE series, but I didn't enjoy this one much. I thought the inventory system was a pain, Sheva was brain-dead, and it felt a LITTLE clunky. I do, however, think the graphics were great and the co-op can be a lot of fun. I may pick up the Gold Edition over the summer if I can find a friend that'll play it, too.
I just picked up the Gold Edition (aka the normal edition plus a code) and generally like it. The bad shooting mechanics from the 90's is pretty inexcusable considering that RE5 is basically a shooter and not a survival horror game anymore but I'm not sorry I picked it up. It's good.
I would definitely say it doesn't suck, and it STILL looks fantastic. This is coming from someone who ranks RE4 as one of my favorite games. HOWEVER, Sheva's AI is absolutely terrible and I dislike having to go through watching her waste bullets into my back. I definitely believe people who didn't play it JUST because it's so much like 4 needed to get their priorities straight.
A lot of people don't like that you can't shoot while moving, but this doesn't really bother me. The game is designed from the ground up with this in mind so it's not like you're put in situations that you can't handle due to it. It's just a gameplay thing. It's like the only shooter that plays like this. We can't have one game that does things differently than all the others?

I wouldn't say it sucks, but it's not great either. I went through it twice, once solo and another one in co-op with a friend. It was a much better experience in co-op, needless to say.
The main issue with the game, IMO, was that it switched genres and clearly went for action instead of survival horror, but still retained the restrictive controls from RE4. That was a big mistake.
