Everybody says it's not a "Classic Resident Evil" game... fucking good! Have you played that first one recently? Poor control scheme and basically no gameplay... plus it's hard as fuck.

Also, Resident Evil 5 is just sooooooo much fun if you have friends

It doesn't at all.  Its a great game, just not quite as great as RE4

#103 Posted by JoelTGM (5596 posts) -

I hate the controls.  It's just not fun to fumble around with the interface trying to switch weapons or whatever in combat.

I find RE5 absolutely scare-free whilst RE4... perhaps a tad-bit.

if it came out before dead space i would have liked it a lot more

The Village at night in RE4 was at least pretty creepy. RE5 didn't have any moments like that, even when going through the caves in pitch black with the lantern, just couldn't give any fear or even suspense frankly.

Its a good game but not a good Resident Evil game if that makes sense.

Besides him contradicting himself, I really don't see the point of this topic.

I'd really hope it doesn't suck
I sort of play it all the time with friends

in fact my cod mw2 clan tag is CWHD (crouching wesker hidden dropkick)
in honor of one of the later levels in the game

I think he knows that many people dislike this game, but he himself really likes it.  He's trying to figure out what people dislike about it (AKA the topic being "Can someone remind me why RE5 sucks?)

Everything RE5 tries to do, RE4 did it better.  Except for the co-op, which is great with another human and terrible with the idiotic AI.  I don't think it sucks, but rather I find it average and uninspired.

Resident Evil 4 is a horror game with action elements.

Resident Evil 5 is an action game with horror elements.

Done and done.

Gamers usually like to exaggerate their opinions on things.

Some people don't like it quite as much as most of the Professional Critics out there but no one will hear them unless they say

FUCK RESIDENT EVIL I FUCKING HATE THAT GAME ITS THE WORST GAME EVER MADE ITS NOT EVEN SCARY AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#121 Posted by Lazlow (119 posts) -

I don't think it sucked. Having played all the Resident Evils in order it was a bit of a letdown but I guess maybe I expected too much from the setting and characters. Its a solid action game but not scary and clunky by todays standards when other games like Dead Space have come out having amazing atmosphere, action and environments.

Essentially.. RE5 is aiming to be too much of an action game but for some reason still latches on to its older convetions without really focusing on doing action particularly well through the fluidity of combat and gunplay or what the older REs did well imo which was exploration, puzzles and story. But again, just my opinion.

#122 Posted by Ulong (445 posts) -

I had more fun playing resident evil 5 than I did resident evil 4.
It's the inclusion of cooperative mode, it adds alot to any game. I would have sunk so many hours into resident evil 4 if A buddy and I could have gone into the mercenary mode and tried to get good scores. But as it was, The mercanary was only single player and I barely touched it.
As resident evil 5 stands, sometimes my friend comes over and we literally spend all day playing resident evil 5 mercenaries.

Because RE4 blew everyone's mind. it was such a giant leap for the series, that people expected RE5 to be the next leap. People will say the controls hold it back, an while that may be true, it's just that this game feels like it doesnt know if it wants to be RE or Gears of War.

It starts out Resident Evil, but once the enemies gets guns... it's pretty much a lame version of Gears or Uncharted.

#124 Posted by nukesniper (1312 posts) -

It doesn't. I would just submit that RE4 was slightly better, but I spent much more time with RE5. Its a damn good game by my opinion.

That is if the items you want are in the slots actioned by the d-pad, if not you going to fumble around with the stash.  And if you're really unlucky, you'll have to call your partner, if you're really really really unlucky -playing on single player - it can be impossible, since the ai can get trapped on something and be unable to get near you. Unnecessary gripes.

I hated the inventory, the ai and the more complicated and bothersome single player experience, as you had to juggle with the ai and the new controls. You may say it's a great/good/average game, but to me it sucks.

Going from RE4Wii to RE5 = impossible.

Well I set the controls to classic Resi 4 (which I played the crap out of) and played co-op with my buddy, so the controls and AI issues never came up. Also, the inventory CAN be an advantage, especially in Mercenaries mode, as if you're quick enough, you can reload -for example- a shotgun whilst climbing a ladder and not have to suffer a painfully slow reload animation.
#128 Posted by Eiskalt (30 posts) -

RE5 is awesome, you just need to play through it CO-OP.
I had one of my friends come over and we just played the game until we finished it (did have a break for sleep though), we both enjoyed it a heap.

It also has great graphics on PC :D

#129 Posted by kashif1 (1428 posts) -

i think its because resident evil 4 set the bar too high

#130 Posted by Demyx (3237 posts) -

I played the demo, and I didn't really like the controls.

#131 Posted by Josma (3 posts) -

It's not that it sucks, its just that it didn't live up to its predecessor, for me it was the setting of the game.

Seriously, I was so disappointed with the entire game. I was hoping to be on the edge of my seat, but I just beat it for the sake of seeing it through and now I will trade the game in this weekend for something else... maybe Dragon Age.

yeah, so much for the "Fear you can't forget".

It doesn't if you don't look at it from a horror perspective.

I'm not even a huge fan of the RE series, but I didn't enjoy this one much. I thought the inventory system was a pain, Sheva was brain-dead, and it felt a LITTLE clunky. I do, however, think the graphics were great and the co-op can be a lot of fun. I may pick up the Gold Edition over the summer if I can find a friend that'll play it, too.

#138 Posted by Dad_Is_A_Zombie (1225 posts) -

I just picked up the Gold Edition (aka the normal edition plus a code) and generally like it. The bad shooting mechanics from the 90's is pretty inexcusable considering that RE5 is basically a shooter and not  a survival horror game anymore but I'm not sorry I picked it up. It's good.

#139 Posted by androdro (75 posts) -

It sounds like it should suck but for some reason it's awesome

#140 Posted by Pomeroy (105 posts) -

I would definitely say it doesn't suck, and it STILL looks fantastic. This is coming from someone who ranks RE4 as one of my favorite games. HOWEVER, Sheva's AI is absolutely terrible and I dislike having to go through watching her waste bullets into my back. I definitely believe people who didn't play it JUST because it's so much like 4 needed to get their priorities straight.

#141 Posted by sickVisionz (1268 posts) -
I played through the campaign in single player on veteran and didn't have any AI issues with Sheva.  She stinks in professional since she won't heal you under any circumstances ever, even if she has a spray can and it right beside you, but professional is supposed to be like a kick in the balls mode isn't it?

A lot of people don't like that you can't shoot while moving, but this doesn't really bother me.  The game is designed from the ground up with this in mind so it's not like you're put in situations that you can't handle due to it.  It's just a gameplay thing.  It's like the only shooter that plays like this.  We can't have one game that does things differently than all the others?

I've done this as well.  I love the arcadeyness and overall silly fun that it offers.
#142 Posted by Marz (5658 posts) -

It doesn't suck, actually reviewed pretty well.  It's just not a Resident Evil game anymore... it turned into an action game.

#143 Posted by Marcsman (3227 posts) -

They need to go back to being scary and having zombies.
#144 Posted by TooWalrus (13235 posts) -

I know this thread is over a year old, though I'm just going to pop in and say "That game is great, and doesn't suck, and I should play it again."

#145 Posted by SlasherMan (1725 posts) -

I wouldn't say it sucks, but it's not great either. I went through it twice, once solo and another one in co-op with a friend. It was a much better experience in co-op, needless to say.
The main issue with the game, IMO, was that it switched genres and clearly went for action instead of survival horror, but still retained the restrictive controls from RE4. That was a big mistake.

#146 Posted by CaptainCody (1508 posts) -

Still wasn't that great of a game, also don't get why idiots bump year old threads.

This was my first RE5 and enjoyed it a lot with my friend.

Can't think of a single reason why it would suck. I've played through it more than I can remember, and it still keeps being interesting.
