Why did no one play this? My conclusion: It should have been on the PS2. Not because of some 'obligation' bullshit or anything, but for the sales. Bleh, more of you need to play this, bottom line.

The first in a long line of action-oriented survival-horror games, Resident Evil pits a small group of special forces agents against hordes of zombies and other mutated creatures in a mysterious mansion.
Underrated
More people should have played it because it is an awesome game. Definitely the scariest RE game ever made (Lisa Trevor and the Crimson Heads scare the shit outta me.) But the main reason more people should have bought and played it is because we may have gotten a Resident Evil 2 Remake. :p
This game is a masterpiece. I can't think of any other way of describing it. Its only flaw is it not being on the PS2, and having two discs. I hope Capcom does another old-school Resident Evil with pre-rendered environments. Imagine what it would look like on the PS3 or 360. Madness!
This was probably the best old styled Resident Evil ever made.
Edit:
Only one that made me shite myself.
I actually - even with my pc and ps3 - went out and bought a gamecube just for this game (and zero - which was a msitake)
It is just wonderful - a brilliant remake

With backward compatibility Sony thought it would be enough.

"Wesker said:Capcom went behind Shinji Mikami's back and ported RE4 to the PS2. Capcom had an exclusive deal with Nintendo to release 3 games on their platform, this being one of them. Mikami did not want RE4 to the PS2, but Capcom went ahead and did it anyway. Why they didn't port the REMake, I don't know."Why did no one play this? My conclusion: It should have been on the PS2. However, since Capcom re-released Resident Evil Zero to the Wii in Japan, perhaps there is a possibility they will re-release the REMake to the Wii too.
By far the scariest game I've ever played. It was excellent and terrifying, and so scary that I had to do the grenade launcher ammo trick to keep myself from turning it off out of fear. Lisa may be the scariest character to ever appear in a game.
ZombieHunter, this is the beauty of Giantbomb. Clearly the guy didn't go back 100 pages and find it among the latest topics forum. The guy must have just been checking out the RE page, saw the thread, and decided to throw in his 2 cents. No harm there. Besides, the RE remake is awesome enough to warrant a threadular resurrection. Did you like that? "Threadular resurrection".
