In a delightful bit of all-too-perfect shooting-aliens-in-stuff convergence, Sony Computer Entertainment and Columbia Pictures--a Sony subsidiary itself--have joined forces to give you a reason to maybe think about buying Battle: Los Angeles when it comes out on Blu-ray on June 14th.

Make sure you don't mistakenly pick this up instead, or you're gonna be wicked pissed.
Make sure you don't mistakenly pick this up instead, or you're gonna be wicked pissed.
Via a segment on G4's X-Play, it's been announced that the aforementioned Blu-ray will contain a demo for Resistance 3, Sony's September-bound shooter. It reportedly clocks in at around 30 minutes, and is presumably made up of single-player action.

The one sticky wicket with all of this, of course, is that it involves buying Battle: Los Angeles, the March-released action film starring Aaron Eckhart that most have described as not unlike watching someone else play a video game in which you shoot aliens.

Not that critics are to be trusted for anything, ever, but the movie currently sits at a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 34%. For what it's worth, Whiskey's own Matt Rorie said of the film, "...you’ll sit, you’ll watch, you’ll be on your way in a couple of hours, no worse for wear," and then he gave it three puppies.

Regardless, if you're a die-hard Resistance fan, this might be a worthwhile reason to drop a few bucks on the Blu-ray. 30 minutes of exhilarating Chimera killing ought to make up for the 114 minutes of your precious, unrecoverable life you dedicate to watching the movie, right? Right...?

Aaron Eckart was ok in it, everything else about the film is pretty meh. Additionally, I've never been a big fan of Resistance, so I think I'll be giving this release a pass.

A demo that will in all likely be up on PS+ just in time for everyone to have Plus to begin with.

I wouldn't call Battle: LA a mediocre action movie, I saw it in the theater when it came out and enjoyed it. It was fun alien invasion movie.

That movie was a surprisingly good popcorn flick.
If you're looking for some amazing story it's definitely not there but the action sequences make it a worthwhile watch.

I think movie critics got their head up their asses. It's just some blockbuster alien invasion flick, why expect more?

Edit: Matt got it pretty much spot on with his review.

I love the Resistance series, but not enough to essentially buy a demo.

Just a neat bonus for people picking up the Blu-ray. I loved the movie. I can't believe people go into a movie called BATTLE:LOS ANGELES and then complain that its exactly what the title says.
I didnt even feel that the dialogue was super corny. The characters just weren't explored that much.

Then again maybe the Resistance 3 demo is longer than the full LA game. Zing

I wouldn't call Battle: Lost Angeles a mediocre action movie -- maybe standard or uninspired. But it's a lot of fun to watch. Regardless, I couldn't give less of a damn about Resistance 3. Couple that with the fact that my PlayStation 3 went tits-up about 10 months ago and you evoke a pretty solid "meh" from this particular gamer.

No, you're very correct to say it's mediocre (or not). Battle: Los Angeles is a near terrible film, and it's not fun for those that want an even somewhat intelligent movie. Battle: LA was one of the most unoriginal, ridiculously over-acted films I've seen in a long, long time.

And the whole story was quick and vague. Not only did I not have to see it because it was bad, I didn't have to see it because I could have told you everything that happened before I saw it. That's how cliche it was. Everything except for the (unoriginal) special effects was bad.

The only people that I think would like this movie are people who already knew what to expect and didn't mind what the movie had to offer; people who don't watch a lot of movies and haven't caught on to the cliches, and simply put... a retard that can't tell what a good movie actually is.

Remember when the point of a demo was to get as many people interested in your game as possible? Because I don't think Sony does.

I bet this will be on Playstation Plus not long after the movie drops. Sony seems to like giving Playstation Plus members stuff like this even though it sounds exclusive to the blu-ray.
