Good Game, but Show Stopping Bugs
Scott Pilgrim vs the World is a classic brawler with a heavy emphasis on retro. Within a the first 15 minutes it will remind you of River City Ransom (RCR.) The comparisons are fair as it has a reminiscent art style and borrows some of RCR's features. However, to simply call it a newer version of RCR is selling it short. It controls well, has a great sound track, interesting levels, and is in general a whole lot of fun.
The big problem here is that Ubisoft clearly rushed the game out the door without testing it. The X360 version has a number of nasty bugs that you have a decent shot at running into. For some people the game just freezes and sometimes levels won't trigger properly forcing you to restart them. The game will also sometimes hang briefly as it cycles the sound track. This can be extremely frustration. I've probably played the game around six hours and have seen a good 5 show stopping bugs. What makes it really frustrating as they tend to come in waves. You may get through a couple of levels fine, then crash 3-4 times in a row on one level. I have yet to finish the final level due to the game locking up on the final boss multiple times.
Overall the game is fairly fun for anyone who is still capable of enjoying a 2D brawler. The bugs can just completely wreck the experience. I would suggest avoiding this game until it gets some patching. If the freezes are ever patched out, it is a fairly solid 4 star game. Until then, I would save your $10. The game can easily become unplayable due to frequent glitches and bugs.
