Suprised this hasn't been posted yet:p. Missed the timer personally 'cuz I was outside, but here ya go:

Some pretty memorable, defining moments shown. Charlie sticking his hand in, Dojima being a boss, and my personal favorite, 0:30. Where you see the critical hit/knock down flash thingy . The art is a little shakey at times, but the animation shown so far still does look pretty good.

And lol at the people who honestly thought this would only cover Yukiko's arc. That would be a terrible and dumb idea.

There's a release date, too. October 2011

Looks surprisingly authentic to the P4 art style.

Not sure if I'd watch it knowing all the plot points already.

Its odd.

In some parts it looks pretty damn close....

But then you get stuff like derpsuke and half-cross eyed Yukiko.

Diggin' it. Diggin' it quite a lot.

The animation is definitely lacking in terms of sheer frames and , yes, sensing a tiny bit of derp.
edit: After watching Angel Beats!  and seeing the Critical Hit homage there , I think this one will have an interesting direction.
Though yes,

Okay, I kinda take back what I said here. It looks good approx. 70% of the time, but it  being good=/= it being the same artstyle as Soejima Shigenori's. 100%. Its still a fair attempt, unlike what the initial character designs pics seemed to imply, though. Much better than the shitty ingame anime cutscenes.

The animation is a mixed bag so far. The couple of seconds of Izanagi they've given us so far are gold, though.

October.....That's when Naoto joins the party, right?  Neato, so I suspect this midnight channel stuff will be going on for a while, then. That aside: there'll probably be a poorly written, overly literal sub of this anime after it airs in Japan.

I'm watching it,sadly:(

I can't wait half a year until some dubbing company picks it up!

If they don't use the same VAs from the game... That would totally be weird.

And they better have a bad, "Aha, is this our chance?" in there for good measure.

God, the wait is un-bear-able.

#14 Posted by RE_Player1 (7558 posts) -

If this has english sub titles I'll watch it. If it comes out later with english voices and all of them are from the game I'll watch it. If this comes out on blu-ray in North America I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

The trailer is 10 seconds too long. I can't bear kanji.

Call Charlie "the Chosen One". Like in all the RPGS where you make your character and save the world and shit.

In that case, I might as well just watch it with subs. TBH,  I'm not even very interested in seeing it dubbed if Atlus USA isn't handling it. Which is rather likely:(

That wouldn't make sense here though since the other characters would not call the MC "the chosen one" considering he is, at least on the outside, just a normal high school student. Even in the game, the other characters refer to the MC by his name (it's just not voiced since obviously the player can choose to name him whatever they want)

Yeah, I think the most notable instances were with Teddie and Dojima, but in some other spots it looked pretty good.  Also, the music is still fantastic.
I'm hoping for the best, but keeping my expectations on the low end just in case.
Still, it'll be worth it just to see some of the scenes and characters get animated.  Especially if Funky Student gets even a brief cameo, which he damn well better.

I'm really curious as to how they are going to handle this tonally. One of the things that was really appealing to me (and made the last act really off-putting) was the fact that P4 seemed to me to be almost a parody of JRPGs and anime. I'm wondering if they are going to preserve that or play it straight.

I don't get how you can say that. Yeah, Persona 4 has some(a lot, actually) intentional comedic elements. But to call it a parody? Ridiculous. And a parody of bad Jrpg's and anime?
"hello"

Especially Jrpgs. At least with anime you have the whole highschool thing, but JRPG's usually suck Tolkien's dick hard with shit like elves, knights and mages . They feature effeminate spiky haired dudes saving the world from a thinly veiled religious figure by fighting monsters with oversized swords.

Persona 4, on the other hand, is a lighthearted colorful Scoobydoo-like murder mystery with very neat aesthetic design. Its not poking fun at anything in particular, its just an eccentric game with a good sense of humor.

Almost a parody?

Nah, P4 was straight up slice of life with action. It's pretty much your standard anime thing that's popular nowadays.

Well, yeah, but it has something over the others: art that isn't terrible and comedy that doesn't want you to kill yourself. The murder-mystery thrown into the mix really helped it establish it own identity as well.

It also lacked pantyshots which put it above those shows on a objective level.

I didn't say bad JRPG and anime, just the genres in general. Up until shit goes down with Nanako, everything in P4 too me was delivered with a wink and a nudge. That's not a bad thing. It's what I like most about the game, actually.

Right, no effeminate men fighting religious figures with over-sized swords in P4.

And I fully agree with you on all accounts!

......However, I don't think that makes it a parody. Just a humorous work.

"struggling with sexuality" was not exactly what I had in mind. If only that was a thing gamers were able to handle (lolgamers)

"Poor art design and horrendeous understanding of human anatomy" was more along the lines of what I was implying.

fighting  religious figures

You weren't fighting a poorly veiled representation of Izanami.

You WERE fighting Izanami. Also, JRPG's never include eastern religion. They just put in a big bad evil church(TOTALLY not Christianity guys! despite the imagery.) which "corrupts " the entire world and OHNO this guy who is totally not the pope turns out to have been lieing the entire time!

with  over-sized swords in P4.

That's a  stretch if I've ever seen one. Not only is that the largest sword in the game.....its not even that large. A jrpg approved sword is more along the lines of this:

The something over others thing might be the SMT element. The series has always had that 'thing' that made them charming.

And yeah, anything with pantyshots as a selling point is probably not worth a look.

Ok, guys, enough already. We wouldn't want the mods to go bearserk on us.

@SoldierG654342@mutha3
I wouldn't call Persona 4 a humorous work, it just executes the tropes inherent to its formula (or genre, if you will) to a better degree than most of its ilk. The actual narrative is pretty standard fare (transfer student, mystery, romantic options, etc, etc), P4 just allows enough time to pass to let the player get attached to the surroundings and characters. And most importantly, lets them initiate contact on most of the occasions. No "I'm going to soliloquize now, whether you wanted to hear it or not, enjoy the unskippable cutscene" - forcing the narrative onto the player.

Which makes the upcoming adaptation that much more interesting: how much time will they give the audience to get to know the characters before shoving their teenage angst into their faces? Or is it going to be full of service, directly playing off the players' memories of the game?

The latter would be nice, but the former makes for a better story.
