Giant Bombcast 12-20-2011

Just a small comment: While waiting in line to get on my SWTOR server alt+tab-ing out of the game to do other stuff and even play different games (Batman: Arkham City) worked perfectly fine for me. SWTOR is very alt+tab friendly.

There has been way too much hate going on in the comments for various staff members and it is upsetting. The community used to be all love. Too much hating going on these days. Keep doing what your doing guys, the majority of us have no problem with any Whiskey Media Staff.

Patrick is clearly not the rest of the guys in terms of quality or experience, but his perspective is unique to the podcast anyway. He's a good kid.

Hey Just so theres some balance here since a bunch of complete Douchebags have decided to comment.

Patrick happens to be one of the best things on GiantBomb and has brought things to the site that have really rounded out the experience.

@Masha2932: I second that, I am not a huge driving game fan but I love Most Wanted (which is weird!!), hearing it on the bombcast made me go and buy and download it on Xbox live games on demand, its so much fun.

The worst part is, "Elpick" doesn't rhyme with "Klepek" at all. He goes the extra mile to try and be a condescending dick, and misses the target completely.

Seriously though - Patrick is part of the editorial staff at Giant Bomb now, whether you like it or not. And if you don't, I suggest taking Jeff's advice and listening to something else. The bitchfest from a certain contingent of users every time Patrick shows up in a podcast or video, is getting really old - and embarrassing, frankly.

Guys? Does anyone actually have the episode? when I click on play nothing happens and the download link tells me that there is no file by that name. Any help? I managed to listen to the most of it when it came out but a careless click closed the window...

On the Skyrim topic, I should say that my PC version of the game has been running pretty much perfectly with next to no problems. Running on Ultra setting, with 20+ visual enhancing mods on top of that, the game looks and runs great. The patches didn't break anything for me either, or at least I didn't notice any issues. Just adding this for a sense of balance; the game is not universally fucked up as some would have you believe.

im glad the queuing is much better in swtor, they added 20-30 servers.

and i LOVE swtor. it doesnt feel like a normal mmo, with good story

If one can call others doucehbags for not liking someone then why not label those who feel the opposite as being ass-kissers and opportunistic sycophants who'll crawl out of the woodwork hoping they'll get noticed when Jeff Gerstmann posts a comment? I didn't see so many comments against Pathate before that...

Why are people surprised that this stuff happens? If you give people a venue on which they can anonymously express themselves without fear of consequence then you're just begging for drama and instead of complaining about people's complaints, why not realize that Giantbomb provides its users with a system that allows them to write anything they want and if that's a problem then the responsibility lies with those you made it possible in the first place. Also, if so many people voice their displeasure, it probably means there's something wrong somewhere... There was a comment reminding us that the GB community used to be "all love" and now there is too much hate. Well, when did this "hate" begin?

As for me, I have to admit Patrick is o.k. on the Bombcast but I couldn't disagree more with your comment.

Only Zelda games i've played are OOT and MM, played them both as a Kid, and loved them both.

But Majora's Mask is better! Its not as epic as OOT, but the game's quests are so much more engaging. You feel like its a personal story, and you not just a generic hero. The stuff in the game is so interesting, while OOT is just like a good action movie.

Gameplay wise they are about the same, but story wise I guess OOT is a better adventure game with guy saving princess, while MM is more about story and interesting concepts (You can transform into Zora and Goron!).

I just can't fathom being so ultra-critical of a member of the staff. I haven't seen this ship change course since day one. It's personality driven coverage of the industry and Patrick fits in like Jeff fits in like Brad fits in.

Moreover, imagine YOU, fair internet snob were tasked with becoming a member of the staff. I have serious doubts anyone posting comments would be welcomed with open arms and revered as the golden god of gaming that half you sad sacks seem to think you are

I know its hopelessly circular to complain about a guy complaining when the real reason we're all doing it is because we can. I only want to point out that this isn't highschool or your parents basement and who you like personally holds no value here.

@Plasma: I think they were joking because of what Patrick was saying about Zelda 2 being so divisive.

Majora's Mask is the only Zelda game I haven't played though, I'm really hoping we see it brought to the 3DS.

Backwards Dragons are NOT fun! They ruin the framerate like CRAZY! Also they never land so they are nearly impossible to kill!

I even like Majora's Mask but can you really be surprised that some people hate it or dislike it? It's a total change from what the series was previously. You can either love it for being a unique entry or hate it for reusing assets from the previous game and having some messed up quests and systems. I personally flip flop on liking the game, just like Twilight Princess which has some amazing moments but is saddled with some tedious quests and activities.

No, I'm not surprised some people hate it: different people have different tastes and there's the age-old Zelda Dichotomy i.e. people complain that they want a "different" Zelda game and are then unhappy when when they get it. But dismissing it out of hand, especially when one hasn't taken the time to learn how it works is a different story and those people e.g. Brad and Jeff are depriving themselves of a truly unique and great Zelda experience.

I don't understand why some draw attention to "reusing assets". Sequels continue a game's story and take place in the same univers (although MM is in another dimension) so it is normal that "assets" should reappear.

Everyone can like whatever game they want but it seems that some games are ridiculed for no reason.

I don't care about it, but it's good to hear that SW:TOR is at least well made for what it is. I really want Bioware to not fuck up.

Glad someone said this but this whole "I hate Patrick" thing is really getting on my fucking nerves. It's gotten to the point where I'm starting to completely avoid comments on some videos because I'm tired of hearing these assholes bitch and moan, which something I never, ever had to worry about this site.

If you don't like Patrick (or anyone on the staff for that matter), go to a different website or shut your damn mouth because no one wants to fucking hear about it.

I will give Star Wars: The Old Republic a try once it goes free-to-play or they drastically cut the price of the game. The days of me paying full price and monthly fees for MMO's are over.

@AssInAss: I've had the PS3 version since launch and I haven't really had any issues. I'm about 50 hours in, my save is over 7MB. If I play for over 4 hours it gets a little slow but a quick restart resolves it. I haven't had anything that kills my gameplay or really annoys me.

Just a quick thought for the hosts. If you've got red ringed Xbox 360s that are still under warranty and you don't want them, why don't you get them fixed and donate them to a charity? Just in my town, I know there's a bunch of needy families whose Christmases would be made by having a refurbished Xbox 360 under the tree. Just food for thought. Better that than in a landfill, especially when they apparently can still be fixed for free.

You mean people actually use the string function of string cheese? And seriously, if you're going straw, tap it out. I judge fast food venue's by if their straws can withstand being tapped out.

Agreed! Patrick is fine with me. This whole issue is a storm in a teacup if you ask me - I doubt whiskey gives a damn.
