One of my favorite games of all time. Along with Burnout 3, of course.

In fact, I think Burnout 3 may be my favorite multiplayer game ever.

I love this game. I bought it on faith when I was 12, and it became one of my favorite Gamecube games. Then I was sad when Burnout 3 didn't come to the Gamecube, because I didn't have money.

Been a Burnout fan since the beginning. Can't wait to watch this one. Would love to see one for the original game, or the greatest entry in the series, Burnout 3.

This is more of a Quick Look Throwback than an Encyclopedia Bombastica.

Ryan is doing it wrong, btw.

Yeah, this fits the QL Throwback format rather than the EB format, but whatever.

Though I think Burnout got a whole load better when they abandoned the idea of only being able to boost once you've filled the bar. That, plus the whole takedown stuff, is what really made me love Burnout 3.

Goddamn, we played so much of this game on the GameCube - I liked most of the other games, but I always thought this one was the best.

Was confused at first "That doesn't look like the Burnout 2 menu" then they said Development version. Why not look at the released version?

You say it came out 10 years today, yet the site says the release date was Sept 30 2002.

That's the Ps2 version. The Xbox version (that they are playing) came out May 1, 2003.

2 is still the best in the series as far as I'm concerned. Compared to 3, it has

- better music

- better loadtimes

- better crash mode

- more intense boost system

- less rubberband AI (3 had the worst in gaming until Motorstorm came along.

- better sense of speed

- splitscreen multiplayer (online was not as much of a thing back then to outweigh the need for splitscreen)

The only thing 3 has over 2 is the addition of Road Rage mode, which I will admit is the best mode in any racing game ever.

Never played a proper Burnout game as I'm not a car/racing guy so I have never felt the desire to play them. That said I somehow found myself playing some Burnout game on my PSP a long time ago and I remember a fun mode where you just crashed into stuff to try and get high points.

Yes! Drew speaking the truth on traffic checking ruining Burnout. 1 and 2 the best racing games (obviously Paradise is fantastic in it's own special way).

Edit: Also, them talking about music, thing I preferred about 1, music phased out when you entered Burnout, not got louder like it did in 2, just seemed more intense.

This is the kind of Bombastica I find interesting. Old stuff I might have missed, but recent enough that it actually resembles a video game.

Easily the best in the series. I felt it went downhill when it became too focused on trying to take other cars out and not setting the fastest time that you possibly could.

When I think of this game I think of two things.

1. The first Palm Bay race was the first time that I ever got anywhere near brilliant at a game. I don't know why but it just clicked with me and it felt like I was seeing the whole map in slow motion. I knew what car would be where and when and I spent months in the top 10 of the leaderboard peaking at 4th I think it was.

Of course there weren't as many people on Xbox Live back then, but it is still my biggest 'achievement' in gaming.

2. It wasn't long afterwards that I had a nasty motorcycle accident. A car pulled out of a junction and t-boned me. I wrecked my wrist and spent a short time in hospital. I got back on a bike as soon as I could and never had any sort of fear from the accident. Then I played Burnout for the first time in ages and the first time I crashed - slamming into a car on a junction - I had the kind of flashback that I only ever thought happened in movies. I saw the whole accident play out in my mind and all triggered from that crash in Burnout.

It was the one and only time thats ever happened to me.

Haha, I know what you mean, but what the hell game did they do that you didn't think "resembled a video game"?

The only thing 3 has over 2 is the addition of Road Rage mode, which I will admit is the best mode in any racing game ever.

The great thing about the juiced up audio when you hit the boost button was that it worked with your custom soundtrack too. So you could hold off on pressing boost a little and time it for when the chorus kicked in or the beat dropped. (High 5 to @drewbert from a fellow Mona Lisa Overdrive Burnout racer btw).

The Online Road Rage/Racing in 3 was the peak of my Burnout joy. But for single player, Burnout 2 and it's crash mode win the day. I first got led to Giantbomb actually from the end of Xbox XBOXALYPSE stream because Ryan hopped into my lobby on Burnout 3 when they were doing that part of the stream :)
