This brings back so many good memories. I always liked how the cars reflected the attitudes of the drivers, something I wish the most recent Twisted Metal did.

Oh god this was awesome! Thumper was my favourite character also. Shadow a close second due to a quickly recharging special that did heaps of damage and he had a great ending.

Use to love playing this game from start to finish with the goal of not losing a life. Whenever you finished Holland without losing a life that was such a good feeling.

Was anyone else screaming use the shield when he was in the effiel tower with Twister and Grasshopper? Using Minion's finish there was such a waste.

Jeff and Dan both state this type of game is outdated but don't exactly state why they think it's outdated. Wish we could get more feedback as to why. It's basically a mash-up between a car game and first-person shooter. One would think in an age where first-person shooters dominate the market, something like could ride the wave of nostalgia while also providing a breath of fresh air.

So you're saying a brown lesbian SJW wouldn't have been a better fit? Blasphemy!

False syllogism. Dan is good at this, therefore only people like Dan would be good at this.

I'm not having a go at Dan, by the way - he's a fantastic addition! :)

I've been spending my holiday break catching up with some of Dan's work over at Game Informer, and there are some "Replays" over there that are just as good if not better than Quick Looks. Makes sense that he's already pretty good at the Giant Bomb thing.

I highly recommend the Tail of the Sun Super Replay, and the Dan's Dad plays games videos.

That's just me joking. Great video, guys. Dan remembers way too much about Twisted Metal 2.

Carmageddon was never good.

Ever.

Did you play the first one or base that one the sequels, which weren't good (Carmageddon II had some fantastic looking car deformation stuff, but the pedestrians looked terrible and their attempt to mix things up by adding "mission levels" where you had to do some specific thing over and over again, instead of having lots of options in how to finish the level like you did in the first game)?

I still think the first Carmageddon is fantastic.

After I got bored with Grimm I always used Roadkill. I liked his special. I also despise and hate Spectre which it's cheap ass homing-go-through-walls missiles. I forced my friend that regulary used that car to change and then he started using Crimson Fury. That car could annoy me too BUT it was at least fair and required aiming to hit something.

I also for that matter have more love for the first game. I can't count the times I have played rooftops.

This was one of my favourite all time games growing up. I played so much Twisted Metal 2 when I was younger. I'm so glad to see this here on GB.

Also if any game needs an HD update, this is it. Twisted Metal 2 HD orrrrrrrr Twisted Metal HD Collection. PS4 with trophy support.

Air Force Gator and Air Force Gator II don't count as books.

I'd count Curtain Call as a book though.

@fisk0: Is the Carmageddon/Twisted Metal divide a European/American one. Anyone I talk to here in Scotland that played the genre preferred Carmageddon, but online TM has a much bigger following. I just don't see how you can beat that Fear Factory soundtrack.

Never really played the Twisted Metal games, I never quite realised just how beautifully dumb Twisted Metal 2 was. Fun to watch. Awesome that Dan is completely unashamed of his love for the game, knows it's way stupid, but also loves it because it's way stupid.

Glad to see Dan bringing yet another new perspective on potential nostalgic games to cover in the Bombastica series. Hopefully we'll see Jason do the same?

Oh yeah. Twisted Metal 2 is one of my all time favorite PS1 games. Me and my brother played the living hell out of this game when it was released. The first one had a pretty good framework but they hadn't capitalized on that style of extreeeeme 90's action. I remember being pretty good at Mr. Grimm but I was always more of a Shadow or Minion player. I love all the Faustian endings for these characters. I couldn't tell you my favorite because a lot of them are pretty damn good.

It was definitely one of the best value propositions at the time. So much stuff to see and blow up and multiplayer was pretty fun. I don't think I played any Twisted Metal after part 2 now that I think about it. I just heard so many middling things out of the reviews for the rest of that series. I thought the Jaffe reboot would bring me back in but I ended up not playing it. Dan is A-okay with me for liking this game.

I watched quite a few of Dan and his dad, and that stuffs a real goldmine. It might be worth taping a few more of these when Dan's folks come to visit again. I would think maybe Vinny, now that he's back in NYC, and his dad doing some of these would be some real comedy gold too.

Never played this. But I played the fucking shit out of Carmageddon 2!

I played the alpha or pre-alpha of the new one, oh man, I really like it. Yes it's dated and stuff but I really like it, maybe it's nostalgia, maybe I'm a psychopath that enjoys running over pedestrians in video games, can't wait for it to come out!

@fisk0: Metal Drift deserved so much more than what it got. I don't know how the community originally was but by the time I picked it up there was only ever about twenty people online on a good day. I remember the handling being especially great and I did get some really fun hours in though.

I remember being way into Mechwarrior when Interstate '76 came out and thinking: why would I want to play the same game without torso twist?

They didn't do a great job selling that game to people who were already into MW.

This is awesome! It seems like Dan will be a nice addition to the team to round out some of the rough spots for the Giant Bomb crews interests. It seems like Dan really enjoys Metal Gear Solid, I wonder if he also likes Resident Evil and some of other classic gaming series that it seems like the other duders don't really care much for.

Twisted Metal 4 was my particular jam, but TM love in general always makes me happy. These games just embody the 90s in such a way that I can't help loving them.

I never played any of them past 4, though... might have to grab Black off of PSN. I miss car combat games.
