Endurance Run: Chrono Trigger - Part 13

I have various opinions on this segment of the Endurance Run. No lie.

THANK GOD they finally taught Bucca magic. It was getting painful. Like, blindfold is so tight its crushing my eyeballs painful. I can finally enjoy this again.

I don't know about the tabs. I think its a good idea to use a power or magic on Crono once in a while. But they should probably wait until they procure all of their party members that way they know for sure who their A Team is going to be. Then again... You don't need to use Crono at the end.

It was pretty funny how Patrick, out of the blue, suddenly suggests visiting Spekkio with Bucca. Methinks he either read the comments of a previous episode or some irate fan emailed him.

@jonny_eh: Not sure about that? The one about a week in they said "happy thanksgiving" at the start of it. So this is may of been recorded before the episode aired in which they got to the end of time and magic in the first place? In other words even if Patrick Did read it he would be reading it a good week and a half or more after it that advice would of been useful? Once again someone else can do the math if they really give a shit ... I for one don't 'cause honestly you assholes bitch about everything. Sit back and watch or don't. Teh And.

@jonny_eh: I think you're right, but to be fair they already mentioned, in passing, the idea of having to bring each character there.

They might find themselves challenged in the next segment if they decide to roll with Brono, Bucca, and Byla, but I doubt they'd ditch the robot.

Also Byla isn't a cat person, she just has this really long scarf that droops down like a tail. It also magically stays pinned to her ass.

Didn't the DS version have the cutscenes as well? Along with fast loads, better UI and no old save battery to worry about, it seems like the ideal version to use.

Currently playing the DS one ... Yes it has the cut scenes, The UI is some what better and somewhat worse all at the same time, No load times to speak of , on cart saves of course and, The translation is a newer one... Which can be viewed as a good or bad thing. I myself Don't like some aspects of it. Like most items , techs and, other stuff are renamed. Brog no longer talks like a Ye Old'e Knight and bunches of other stuff. It's not horrid just different if you hadn't played the Snes one you wouldn't care on all the above. I'm enjoying the DS one. Just kind of wish I had a XL for it... and be fore warned it's pretty different :D

I think she gave Brono the raw boot.

It's not even about them "playing my favorite game better" but the "I have no idea where to go even though I just read an NPC dialog that told me about 30 seconds ago."

glad they found Brogs home pretty quickly was expecting them to be wandering around for the entire episode and they even did a bit of working out where they needed to go next although at one point it looked like they were going to do what they always did, so thumbs up to Ryan and Patrick in this one.

Absolutely obvious they're reading up on the game, reading comments and are semi-realtime-ish now.

Two schools of thought on that:

1. Fake Shit RUINS Endurance Runs -- Jeff read comments and spoilers and passed it off as spontaneous in the P4 Endurance Run same way Patrick is here. (Which kinda works maybe if Ryan's still going in all akimbo, but it won't if Patrick can't learn how to calm down shut up just color-commentate and be cool like Jeff can.)

2. Fake Shit SAVES Endurance Runs -- OMG U GUYZ U R SUPOZED TO GO TO TEH OTHER PLACE DUH OMG ME NO WATCH NO MOER vs. Dear Sirs, you are playing it wrongly. Please play this videogame the way I played it and is meant to be played or I shall take mighty offense and NO WATCH NO MOER.

The Deadly Premonition QLs -- and recently the Fortune Street TNT -- succeeded because they subscribed to the 3rd school, which is nobody knows what the fuck man is going on let's just play and see what happens. That's always new and interesting and fun and funny especially with good personalities. Ryan and Patrick are good personalities, but....

That fight is REALLY short. Just cast magic until either you or Spekkio goes down, you don't even have time/need to heal. And as I said before, winning that one's actually worth it.

Patrick saving this episode! This Endurance run has been pretty good, much more enjoyable than DR imo.

No matter how many games Ryan plays, he never gets better at them.

HEY! MEN OF THE TOP! Move this over from Quick Looks to Endurance Run.

I feel like Ryan would be eternally lost if not for Patrick at this point. Good on him for actually remembering where stuff is and what to do.

Yeah, I wish these were longer, but I think it has more to do with the game than anything. Persona 4 ER had hour-plus installments, but some of those were 30 minutes of Vinny and Jeff grinding or researching new personas to create. Or sometimes the story part would go on for a while. This is a SNES game, compared to a PS2 game.

This episode was great, especially when the team met "Byala". At one point, I thought she was already mackin' on "Brono". XD

I'm honestly surprised how quickly they found Brog's hideout. Finding that spot took me forever because I'd see the bush move, but only ever checked the front. Eventually became a "there is nowhere else to possibly be viable than this area.".

I think it has more to do with them wanting to stretch recorded content as far as it can go in this dead spot for game releases. I mean, they had Deadly Premonition gameplay for hour long episodes, and that game is shorter than Chrono Trigger.

Yeah, that's probably the reason; just wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Also, Vinny always seems to enjoy himself more in these ERs (or in general, because dude plays more games than the rest of the crew combined, it seems), so his positive attitude would always push whomever he's playing with to continue for another 20-30 minutes.

I want to say early installments of the Persona ER (and maybe Deadly Premonition too) were usually short, but increased in length the more they played. Hopefully that will be the case here, or maybe Ryan and Patrick are cool with the way they have been going.

I liked how Patrick was kinda wondering what to do about Ayla's name, and Ryan just quickly adden the B and was done.

Always keep in mind that they're bantering as well as playing. It's easy to get lost in several parts of Chrono Trigger your first time through, even when it has your full attention.

I honestly think it's more fun watching Ryan figure out a game he's not great at, than watching a veteran walk all over it without any trouble. At least the Fire magic situation is over!

@Kosayn: I'd buy that argument, except I played Chrono Trigger when I was 8, and I could read much better than my friends, so I read the dialogue out loud to them/ talked as we played, and I didn't have the problems they've been having.

Patrick does seem to have started paying attention, however, so maybe the bumbling will lessen, somewhat. I don't have anything against a little confusion, but the sheer amount of it in earlier episodes was maddening.

Ryan genuinely never seems to know what's going on, no matter the situation, I don't know what's going on with him, but for the guy chosen as the resident host you'd think he'd be able to pay attention more. He's always like this, TNTs, Quick Looks, etc. Anyways, I'm surprised I've stuck it out this long, I was never able to with the other Endurance Runs. Maybe the game they've chosen is simply the most interesting to watch thus far.
