Endurance Run: Chrono Trigger - Part 17

Why do they shelter everytime they save? They could of just used ethers or something to get MP back.

I feel Bryan and Batrick have finally reached buberty. The mouth-imitated music and sound effects are still harsh and Bryan's attitude is a bowl of vinegar ice cream as usual but at least they're getting better; they're actually paying attention and thinking things through before hand (!). And they're gaining a lot of powerful stuff; lighting 2 is pretty cool. Can't wait to see Uzzi Fist

Chrono Trigger is absolutely awesome and I'm still wondering if I should stop watching this and just get the game and experience what it has to offer for myself.

They're fighting FUCKING save points!!!!!!!

This time, the Save Points strike back!

Yeah this was a good episode. The guys seemed to really be into it this time.

Does it bother anyone else that they miss chests and other items sometimes? Case in point: when they beat flea, (s)he drops an item that twinkles on the ground, but they completely miss it and leave the area. Am I the only one?

Great episode, I especially liked Lightning 2 and the Ozzie fight.

Making them fight there best friends the save points, damn you Ozzie.

@Gentlemen_Demon: Considering people have been bitching about it since more or less the first episode, it's probably safe to assume that, no, you're not the only one. I've given up on letting it bother me, 'cause in the long run it won't matter all that much. It's less stressful that way.

And aside from that one misstep, this was a very good episode! I really hope they keep doing longer episodes like this, 40-some-odd minutes seems to be the sweet spot, really.

This is hands down the greatest episode of this endurance run so far. Batrick and Byan have gotten way into this game and it makes watching it much more enjoyable.

This is where the game starts to deviate from standard JRPG tropes. Well you could argue that happened during the trial. But seriously, I hope the enjoy this part till the end. For people experiencing Chrono Trigger for the first time. Stick around. It gets even better from here.

I definitely agree, it's really nice to see them getting much more invested in to the game. It's quite infectious.

I think we're in for a great latter-half of an endurance run.

@Flacracker: Because ethers can be used in battle and out of battle. They're useful if you suddenly find yourself lacking MP during a fight or if you know you have a fight coming up. Shelters, on the other hand, can only be used at save points. There's no reason to stock up on them.

That was one of the things that bummed me out about the DS version. They call that move Rapid Fire Fist instead of Uzzi Punch. Uzzi Punch is such a cooler name.

The rapid fire fist is such a cool attack regardless of the name, though.

Really loving this reckless playstyle. I recognize it is sort of a pain to watch if you remember the correct strategy, but it doesn't look like Chrono Trigger is so hard a game that you actually have to understand every enemy move. Powering through has worked wonders so far, in all of the endurance runs. To me, it's a more fun way to play than healing every turn. Of course, what got most people annoyed was their lack of pathfinding proficiency. I wonder what it will be like when the world opens up near the enda of the game. Those sidequests seemed really hard to find on your own, I used a guide to locate several of them.

The Endurance Run crew sure did make a lot of progress this episode. Well done!

I have this weird selective memory of Chrono Trigger too, I played through a decent chunk of the game (never finished it though), but I barely remember the medieval stuff at all, and I though I got to the jurassic era before getting to the End of time thing. I remember a future temple with some bad-ass mid 90's trance music in it (dug up the track, Undersea Palace, it's not as trance-y as I remembered it, but it's clearly inspired by Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathies, which is an awesome song too), which they certainly haven't gotten to yet, but I can't remember fighting neither Ozzy nor Magus in the castle.

DISCO AIN'T UNDEAD

Crazy that seemingly overnight they got actually competent at the game. Nice to see them get into a groove during the castle which goes a little long.

Can't wait to see them fight Magus.

Nerd Memory 1:

Those birds with swords remind me of Yagudo in Final Fantasy XI. Those bastards totally had samurai and ninja swords (by the game's definition of the Samurai and Ninja classes).

Nerd Memory 2:

There were totally save point fights in FFXII. They were orange or something, and you had to fight them to turn them into normal blue save points. It was kinda weird.

Crono, Frog and Robo were totally the team I used the majority of the time I played for the first time. I mean a princess and a nerdy girl couldnt compare to a talking frog swordsman and a robot!

As much as I look forward to this ER each day, I dread the stuff they will miss or forget.

@DoctorSmashman: I used Barley and Bucca, crono/magus cause these 2 ladies kick some ass. But I guess they believe girs in video games are weak

I couldn't find a good dubstep remix of Robo's theme, but this one of Frog's is pretty baller.

I love this damn Endurance Run. I've never played Chrono Trigger (well, a couple of hours), and this has made me go out and buy the DS version so I can finally experience the joy myself.

Screw you psychopaths. They're clearly doing a good enough job to make a 15 year-old game seem so damn fun even I, a person who normally dislikes JRPGs, will go and buy it.
