Okay, how did you know this? Let me guess, you read it somewhere on the internet or the manual. The game itself doesn't explain jack shit about how it works. "
I figured it out from watching these videos.  The quests are all in a giant notebook.  The first quest they did when George had a notebook by his name, same with the second quest in the Milk Bar, or at the gas station, as opposed to most people not having that icon.  It's not well presented, but it's not rocket science either, it's just some simple observation.  There are 50 side quests to do, and those side quests come with equally hilarious scenes and character reveals, but they drive straight to the next plot point most of the time and skip out on most of the interesting stuff in the game.

I don't really see why racing towards more terrible combat is a good idea.

I kinda wanna go play the game myself just to get to the stuff these guys are obviously missing. Seriously, I have absolutely AWFUL short term memory, but these guys are way worse (maybe on purpose?).

Keep up the funny ERs, though - I come here for humor, not solid gameplay like some whiners apparently do.

lol cripes you people are amazing.  They don't give a shit about this game or whether they play it well or not.  They just did this because they thought it would be funny to make comments on... which it is.  Why bother coming here if you want to see somebody seriously try to play this game?  You can find nerds on youtube for that.  Or better yet, go make those videos yourself.

Add Cat People to the films that Brad really needs to see along with going to the junkyard for car boosting fun (in DP).   Another easy sidequest to take on in the game is bone hunting after the 1st episode ends as well as the spirit maps you can buy from the milk barn.

Someone needs to lock Sigourney in her house so her pot doesn't get cold.

The reason they started the  endurance run is because they wanted to play Persona 4 but they didn't have the time, Jeff''s own words. So, I'm sorry, but, you're wrong.

Besides, I think people have said this 1100230202393 times but I'll repeat for all of them:

We don't want a 100% complete professional speedrun

We want people who write about videogames for a living to have a basic grasp on video game mechanics.

If  they would understand these basic mechanics, we wouldn't get 20 minutes of a video dedicated to Brad and Ryan looking at a map, or Jeff and Vinny moaning about time not passing. In other words: more entertaining video.

Its not meaningless since they actually listen to the criticism they receive and improve their play.  Furthermore, people are fully justified in making these criticisms:

Brad/Ryan didn't knew barrels were explode-able until 4 hours into the game

Unlike the numbskulls who cry at the slightest bit of advice or criticism anyone in the comment section offers. They're big boys, they can handle it. They don't need white knights to yell ''LEAVE BRAD ALONE''

@mutha3: Vinny and Jeff also did pay attention to the advice during the P4 ER, until what people were writing under the videos escalated into a big elitism festival. And it raged on to the end, despite them not paying attention anymore. I kinda feel this is going the same way.

And I don't think Brad/Ryan/Vinny/Jeff need knights in shining armor. I'd rather say the forums don't need a last year's meal.

But EOT for me - I think we'll both agree that we're in this conversation longer than we thought we'd be and that we'll stand by our points at least for now.

So let's wait for the next episode's hilarity - either coming from the game, the commentary or Brad's fucking terribleness at his craft. Or all.

The map system is awful in this game.  That's not Brad and Ryan's fault.  I mean it changes orientation!  It's seriously one of the worst damn maps I've ever seen in a video game.

Um, for some strange inexplicable reason Giantbomb members started repeating this mantra around episode 125, but it isn't true. They still followed advice from the comments and PM's up until the last episode. These people stopped repeating this when Vinny said 'someone in the comments said'' a couple of episodes later.

Besides like I said: they're big boys and used to this. They should grow from their critcism not make hissy fits like their fans.

And I don't think Brad/Ryan/Vinny/Jeff need knights in shining armor. I'd rather say the forums don't need a last year's meal.

Then why did you post a huge picture from a Hiimdaisy comic with ''EVERYBODY SHUT UP''?
I can understand you're point, but, that doesn't mean you should  tell the dissenters and criticizers to ''shut up'' . They're users of this site to and have every right to complain if they don't like something.

But EOT for me - I think we'll both agree that we're in this conversation longer than we thought we'd be and that we'll stand by our points at least for now.

I do wanna add this: I enjoy this Endurance Run. Just like I enjoyed their previous.

But I think this Endurance would have been much better if they had just gotten through the lumber mill in  under an hour like I did and spent most of their time doing fun things like crazy sidemissson which net you shit like laser swords and teleporting devices.

Most time in these videos so far have been spent on the worst aspects of DP: shooting and driving. I just think everyone would benefit if they just improved this things, that's all.

EDIT:

This is definitely true as well. But with a certain sidequest they won't even need to use the map anymore.

These guys can do what they want in the game, but if they want this to be any fun, they are going to have to just get a little bit more curious about what the game has to offer.

Now I will freely admit that DP does a HORRIBLE job telling the player what sidequests are out there, and throws up a lot of obstacles to exploring (i.e. it's fucking raining all the time, so nothing is ever open), but Brad and Ryan seem to hate this game so much already that they are not even interested in seeing what they can do.

I'm still preferring VJ for these runs, but neither team is really seeing all the game has to offer as far as weirdness goes.  I am still kind of hoping this changes.

CONGRATULATIONS, RANT TO FOLLOW!

Completionist Brad, co-pilot Ryan, you just successfully locked yourself out of two sidequests.  Specifically, #1 and thus its followup, #29.  Furthermore, #28 needed to be completed in advance of #1 to unlock it.  Perhaps if you had paid any goddamn attention to the people you suggested to meet after the town hall meeting or the "Chapters Available" portion of the Sidequest menu, you wouldn't be in this situation.  Since you both failed to notice it, I'll say it, sidequests can only be both accepted and completed in certain chapters and that that menu effing warned you in advance.

Also, congratulations on completely failing to understand the "notepad-shaped" sidequest icon with the corresponding number next to it that can tell you from the map when someone has a sidequest available.   That little icon next to their names, that's what that is.

If you guys want to go back in time and complete #28, #1 and unlock #29, you can select a chapter from the main menu, however you have to complete the chapter in one go without saving.  I would pick one of those "drive from A to B ones" if you have the option.  It will autosave at the end and any unique progress you make (sidequests,  bones, cards, quest items, etc.) will carry over into your main save.  Because of this annoyance and several others, you should not use this system except when absolutely necessary.  In addition, I've heard that using the system in a certain later chapter can cause a game-breaking bug as it causes a quest item to disappear.  You should be in the clear for now, but be aware, I'm not sure what chapter it is.

Chill the fuck out, people. Brad's doing fine. If you had other, more important games to play, and you were going through a poorly executed game for < and hour every day with a co-pilot telling you where to go, you'd probably give two shits for remembering what actually happened in the interim. They have a site to run, and there are only so many of them running it AND entertaining the masses.

If it's a question of skill, reconsider what kind of game they're playing.  It's not a skill-based game. But if it's a question of entertainment, I can see why you'd get bored. I find that Vinny and Jeff do a better job entertaining. Although I watch both ERs, Vinny and Jeff get more engaged into the fiction, which I find compelling, while Brad maintains this distant, objective gamer status. Brad seems to need a lot of time with a game to truly get into it. The daily breaks between Deadly Premonition episodes probably don't help.

Yeah, really guys, they are not going to do everything there is to do in this game.   Quite frankly I don't want to watch them do every little thing and I'm pretty sure they don't want to bother either.  So anyone hoping for a 100% perfect run should just stop watching now.

Well, seeing how they present this as entertaining video content, they deserve scrutiny in that case.

I also HIGHLY doubt this is an issue of caring as much as (another) issue of oversight.  Again:

I don't think we're looking for completionism.  Especially since a lot of the sidequests require you to go back and replay chapters in order to finish them; I wouldn't expect them to do that.  What I would hope, though, is that they would pay attention to the quests we've been hinting at since this whole thing started.  Quests that, if they finished them, would remove some of the major annoyances that they're having, and make the whole thing enjoyable for both player and spectator.

Buy the map from Keith and get the Infinite SMG, and visit George at night to get the radio.  If they only did those two things, I think a lot of folks would be satisfied.

YES

They (finally)learned what smoking does, they learned that barrels explode, they claimed to start using more melee weapons. Hopefully they'll start being more observant.

The only thing I feel is still essential is the goddamn radio. Though, you can't really fault them for not knowing that.

Most of the sidequests they have encountered haven't been anything special so far, so it's no surprise they haven't been a priority.

A lot of people don't seem to realize how much easier it is to notice things when merely observing.  But more than that, it's difficult to concentrate or play seriously when you have a friend with you, and you're both talking a lot.

I think most people here who're complaining about the mistakes Brad's making would be playing similarly, if not worse, if they were running a show at the same time.

The only thing that matters to me is that it's funny anyway.

Now, ask yourself. Do professional game reviewers run into a lot of explosive barrels? Probably. Then, if they didn't figure this out until hour 4, did they really care to know this? Probably not.  They weren't looking for anything at that point except to get to the next story-driven moment.

Also, why the hell do barrels have to explode in all games? Maybe they thought better of this one? I dunno.

And I find these entertaining. But I don't have much invested in them. I could care less what they do than that they do the ER at all.

EDIT: I'm not picking a fight at all. I agree that they're not always that entertaining and they DO deserve scrutiny. I wrote that one post below my other one. Here's a snippet:

I'm sure the giantbomb staff can sleep safely tonight in the knowledge that their noble knight Milkman will be yelling at people for not sucking their cocks.

Keep fighting the good fight.

Oh, by the way, you might want to add 'figuratively' to that. I am certain the fine gentleman at giantbomb are beasts under the sheets, but I doubt they could keep up with 60000 manchildren.

Brad and Ryan - awful at paying attention to anything.
Obvious things and they keep missing everything.
it's easier to observe and not miss anything sure but what role Ryan is playing?
he is only confusing Brad and and keeps messing the facts.
still a good episode but man, up your skills guys, everything is on the plate, just pay attention to details.

I don't see why everyone is up in arms. Okay the missed a few quests with infinite ammo, but how did you know certain people have that infinite stuff, better maps and so forth? Did you look it up online, replay again? What? They aren't looking anything up, so stuff is missed, things might get harder but it's more entertaining for the viewer. I get why they don't pay attention to that comment's because it's a bunch of people LOSING THEIR MINDS over a game.

It's not that big of a deal. Let them play how they want to play, you say your criticizing cause your trying to -help-  but all your doing is getting your panties in a bunch cause that isn't how YOU did things, or how YOU want things done.

Just take a step back, breathe and cool off that bit of fanboy flame... then smother it good. If it get's you that mad don't watch. It's just better for everyone.

Or even better?

Be nice, PM BR and POLITELY say that they can find certain things, and better yet tellt hem where they can find them, don't expect them to magicly know that certain people have awesome stuff ready for the grab. If you don't want to do that, and do that at LEAST a day in advance, don't whine.

Just sayin'

@mutha3:  Enough with the whining. Everyone. They're playing the game, not you. I'm sure there's a Deadly Premonition guide somewhere out there that requires minor edits. Sounds exciting. Go keep yourself entertained with that. :x
