Wow, I expected heavy rain.

I mean, finally its day five :)

3 p.m this week has been the best time everyday.

I'm confused by their PS3-only GOTY choice, as they didnt really seem to like it way back when it came out, but i guess in comparison maybe to other PS3 exclusives its the best? I don't know, it's not a terrible game but it was a little disappointing- especially the ending.
 
Edit: oh and the Northies I thought was supposed to be the best performance by Nolan North. It's not really the best performance if you know it's him and he's everywhere. Just sayin, that seems a bit odd.

I skipped out on GOW3, but seeing it played made me regret that. 

 Wow, take a little while to prep and refresh yourselves on controls and make a couple good checkpoints before immediately jumping into the video demonstration of your PS3 GotY pick. Really shortchanged God of War III by fumbling around like this and making fun of it the entire time.  

Not a massive RDR fan, but that 'Red Dead Redeemed' final shot before the credits hit proper was one of my favourite moments of the year. Visual impact over narrative interest perhaps but whatever.

Hahah, seeing this makes me understand why everyone on the GiantBomb staff has pretty much no interest in Devil May Cry and why they would prefer Bayonetta. Bayonetta is an awesome game but pulling off spectacular kills in it is much easier and in that sense less fun if you're looking to find a game that requires you to actually master. That being said, once you've mastered a DMC or GoW you can pull off some badass moves and it makes you feel like one as you're doing it. 
 
It's all good though. I can totally see why in their occupation they'd be less prone to enjoying a game like DMC unless it was on easy automatic, and I'd assume they would play at normal. Those games can be quite unforgiving.

I agree. Final Fantasy needs to take a break. Well, at least that's how we on the west sees it.

Poor Vinny, lots of back-seat gaming in this one. 

As for this game, looks great but I get this twisted disturbing feeling when I watch it. Sure, I can watch dogs getting their skulls ripped open all day but the perversity of dismembering classical gods of the earth that represent nature and purity and suchlike and then having her plunge to her doom is just, well, I think perverse is the best word to describe it I think. And that's just one of many atrocities on the ancient world, not that I'm being overly serious about the whole thing but it makes me think of going into the British library and pissing on some 1000 year old papyrus (while being really pissed at the time of course).

Aw come on. I understand why you want to be like this during a Quick Look, but in this case you should actually prepare the video like...even a little. This felt like they had chosen 2010's best game for the Sega Nomad or something, as in doing it for laughs.

This videos shows completely why I don't enjoy god of war at all. 
1.  An angry emo 13 yr old fantasy character/Women who are supposed to be sexy that look Grotesque
2.  Simplistic puzzling to the point they are made artificially long after you know how to finish it. 
3. XXYYYXXXXXYYXXXXXYXXXYXXX  Combat 
4.  Mediocre platforming, often with a garbage semi fixed camera position. 
  
Even though the art sucks the animation/fidelity of the graphics are great at least.

I like how they managed to show none of the cool parts of gow3, while repeatedly mentioning how awesome and epic the very beginning of the game is. lulz.

Does anyone know what the orchestral bit is at the start in the background?

Exactly - what you think it would be entertaining to watch an expert play the game with everyone on the couch treating it with nothing but solemn reverence?  They like the game - which they continually mention, AND they have fun with it - much like a group of friends playing a game.  They  named it PS3 Game of the Year, and yet they shortchanged it....?  Man I hope the franchise will survive this scathing treatment! "

Slow year for PS3 when God of War, a game series that hasn't changed for 5 iterations now, wins the platform GotY.  Haven't listened to the deliberations yet but what else is there to choose from?  Heavy Rain and Killzone? 
 
I'd have sooner picked 3D Dot Game Heroes or Heavy Rain.  God of War has fantastic production values, but shallow combat, poor platforming (as shown by Vinny and pretty much everyone else I know double jumping to their death many times), and terrible story/character progression.  The story is the EXACT SAME throughout all the games with only the first PSP title having a moment that really resonated with me and showed some character progression within Kratos.  In GoW3, it's rage and anger, anger and rage, yelling, and... *yawn* the same thing we have seen for years. 
 
When the creator of the series claims that it is outclassed in combat by all the other major action titles (DMC, NG, Bayonetta), then why do people still praise the combat?  It took until the first PSP title to make a secondary weapon worth a damn and this one has the blades, copy of the PSP weapon, copy of the first sword in the first game, and another type of blades of chaos you get from Hades.  
 
I worked video game retail during the period it was released. Sold massively well for about 3 weeks and then died.  Price drops did not bring back the people and neither did sales on the used.  We just amassed used copies and never got rid of them.  Same with Killzone, by the way.  Heavy Rain sold less, but was still returned too. 
 
Just a boring ass year for exclusives outside of the downloadables scene. Multi-plats, however, were amazing through and through. :D

They are all terrible at games,"
