Why isnt Friday in the intro?

A Harry Potter quick look is always something to look forward to, only made better by the fact it is my favourite QL combination taking a look at it. Also it was kind of weird the way he talked about Ms. Splosion Man first when introducing the Summer of Arcade when it is actually From Dust that is kicking it off festivities, oh well.

Can't tell if serious. I don't mind Dustbowl once and a while and I don't understand people's complete hatred for it. I get not liking the whole mindless 24/7 servers that only run Dustbowl. They get dull after one, maybe to goes through, but it's not a terrible map. It's the same when it comes to 2fort, Goldrush, and Badwater.

It makes me wonder if people just hate them because they're the only maps that ever get treated with 24/7 servers and they're sick of winding up on one of those servers without noticing. It can be frustrating, yes, but it doesn't make them terrible maps. When you look at these maps in contrast to the recent popular maps that stand out today I'm perplexed.

It always pains me when I wind up on pl_hightower or pl_thundermountain. Hightower is maybe the most boring map. It always turns into a stalemate. This is the main reason people hate Hydro, but at least Hydro has a change of scenery from round to round. Hightower is the same map every round. And if you end in a stalemate once, why would you want to play the same map with the same people again? It's obviously going to be a similar result.

Thunder Mountain starts off semi-promising, but by the last stage I'm just sick of it. It doesn't help the cause that the last map is the worst part of it. When I looked at an aerial layout for both Hightower and Thunder Mountain stage 3 I realized something: they're both slay boxes. They're both cubes with a tower directly in the center of the map. Both sides are so close to each other's spawn-rooms, both of which are elevated off the ground where the tower sits. Both of these cubes SCREAM Deathmatch map. Deathmatch is not the reason I play Team Fortress 2.

This is were a lot of people fail at TF2. They play it in a Deathmatch style and get disappointed or frustrated or unimpressed by the game because they're not playing it for the sake of their team, but for personal glory.

I don't hate Dustbowl, it's just on most matches it's a boring long map that takes forever due to the last point on each stage being a complete super-easy-to-defend meat grinder. Dustbowl is either a complete roll for the BLU or a half-hour total slog. Goldrush is practically the Payload Dustbowl (there are many obvious design similarities), so it suffers from the same problem. Badwater eases up on this by making the last point easier to attack from multiple angles and forcing the defense to walk a few seconds more to get the last point. Upward, which is also mostly a good map, would be better if that last point had a similar philosophy and didn't turn into a killroom.

Team Fortress 2 is already a game designed for easy defense, with many classes and level layouts naturally combining to create chokepoints. That's why Hightower and 2fort and most PLR and CTF maps are hated; you have to attack and defend at once, leading to 45-minute stalemates that resemble team deathmatches more than TF2.

Incidentally, I somewhat agree on Thunder Mountain. I like parts of that map, but the defense, again, has a natural advantage in their high ground, which makes pushing foward more painful than it should be.

Summer of Arcade doesn't start till the 20th with Bastion (can't wait!).
