Great list Jeff. I'm surprised by how high Shadow Complex is on some of these. I'm happy, but didn't expect much recognition,
 
Personally, I like Batman more than Modern Warfare 2, but to me, those take the top spots either way. I can't wait for the Bombcast.

Great list Jeff, I knew Borderlands would be very near the top; God I love that game.
 
Kind of surprised MW2 was number one though, I got the impression Jeff liked the game but not as much as to make his GOTY.

Indeed. I've never even played it and only played MW1 single player campaign, but I think I can say it is a great game. If I had the commitment it would take to be competitive online I would play that game every free moment I had. Same with SF4, like most people I have the hadoken button combination engraved in my bones, but I know I'm never going to be able to play it until I can count frames and now the counter to every move and such.  
 
EDIT: I simply can't handle online games very well. Unless I'm at the top of the list in kill/death ratio I just feel bad. That's why I mostly stick to single player. Shame really since people seem to have so much fun online...was the same even in the old days of SF2 and the SNES, couldn't stand being beaten by a friend.

@smashforge: In COD4 they actually only shipped 12 maps excluding the DLC; so MW2 was actually a improvement over the number of shipped maps. I can't say about any one of them being a classic map aside from Terminal however.

Man compared to these comments the comments on gametrailers game of the year video.  
 
They gave it to MW2 
 
All of the people there are talking about how gametrailers has lost all of their integrity and some other stupid shit. They don't realize that people have different opinions.   
 
Also glad that Jeff realizes that is cool to hate on MW2 for some weird reason.

That's not exactly a big surprise, it's GameTrailers.  They'd sooner give up their first-born then give a PS3 game recognition.  That's why we have Giant Bomb :P

I think my opinion on this might matter quite a bit considering that I strongly dislike Modern Warfare 1 and 2. I recognize MW2 as one of the best shooters ever and one of the best games of the year, still. They're not games for me, but the level of quality in those two titles is readily apparent. I agree with Jeff, and MadExponent that most people hate it because it is as big as it is.  
 
Regarding this video and some of the other comments:  
 
I'm pretty sure Batman will win Giant Bomb's game of the year award. I seriously think Uncharted 2 is leaps and bounds better but I totally understand why Batman should be considered in anyone's games of the year list.

Freakin awesome video.  Although I've yet to play the prior half of this list I can definately get behind the latter half.  Not too suprising is what managed to edge out Uncharted 2 and Batman.  EVen if those games would probably rate higher on most peoples' 2009 list, there are without out a doubt certain gamers who would hold SF4 and Borderlands in higher regard (myself included).  Can't wait for Brad to wrap these features up with his list. I will also say, that's some interesting facial hair that Jeff is rocking in the video.  He mentioned he didnt grow facial hair well on a bombcast and I might now be inclined to believe him, no offense intended.  Merry Christmas Ryan Davis and a Happy New Year giantbomb.  Great job!

MW2 huhh, Jeff? Expected it from you really. But the besides the hectic part and smooth framerate, I still fail to recognize how anyone who sits down and thinks about it can feel that the Multiplayer system in Modern Warfare 2 is fantastic. Its Battlefield 2 but broken essentially.

Oh, I'll agree to that.  It looks polished, it just doesn't look for me.  I like a strong SP campaign in my games, even FPS, and I don't like MW2's constant need to be XTREMEEEE.  For a game to top my list, it needs to be a strong overall package, and i think MW2 should probably just have been released as a multiplayer-only game.  I think that would have actually strengthened it overall, the SP drags it down IMO.
