The live version of this has been the best yet. All the pent up anger over Dan "subjecting" us to this monstrosity of a franchise resulted in the best classic Hollywood style eruption of celebration at the end. Fucking Star Wars level shit.

I think this was what I needed to feel reinvigorated about Giant Bomb in general. That was great. Just awesome all around. Soon as people started cheering for Drew in the first minigame and he won I was into it. The crowd gave Drew and Brad (more importantly Brad) energy; people enjoying it in a less annoying way than Dan enjoys it helped them enjoy it enough to play through.

I also really appreciate that Brad and Drew finally realised that the ultimate goal shouldn't be to win, but to make Dan lose and hate the series, and formed an unspoken agreement between them about it.

I half expected Drew to start laughing when Dan said "You have never wronged me once."

They had a ridiculous number of battle games, too. Normally they come up once every ten turns or so, and you'll see three or four in a 50 turn game.

In spite of the abundance of cursed mushrooms, they saw most of the capsules. Bullet Bill would have let the player steal coins from whoever they passed, Snowman would destroy someone's capsules, a warp pipe would switch players, and Wiggler would take the player to the star for 20 coins (and then they get the star for free).

Also, if one person had managed to get all three Miracle capsules, all of the stars of whoever was in first place would have been given to whoever was in last place. Unless the person who activated it was in first at the time, then nothing happens.

And that's why people often play with the house rule of "throw every capsule immediately" to quickly have every space on the board do stuff. There's even a last five turns event that puts a capsule on every single unoccupied space. The frequency of cursed mushrooms and Hammer Bros. was unfortunate, though.

YES! I was waiting for this! I had to log out Friday only a few minutes after they started and was worried it might have been a live-stream they didn't archive.

What is thus displayed for the public is the great spectacle of Suffering, Defeat, and Justice. Mario Party presents man's suffering with all the amplification of tragic masks. The player who suffers in a move which is reputedly cruel (a Chain Chomp, a Bowser) offers an excessive portrayal of Suffering; like a primitive Pietà, he exhibits for all to see his face, exaggeratedly contorted by an intolerable affliction. It is obvious, of course, that in Mario Party reserve would be out of place, since it is opposed to the voluntary ostentation of the spectacle, to this Exhibition of Suffering which is the very aim of the fight. This is why all the actions which produce suffering are particularly spectacular, like the gesture of a conjuror who holds out his cards clearly to the public. Suffering which appeared without intelligible cause would not be understood; a concealed action that was actually cruel would transgress the unwritten rules of Mario Party and would have no more sociological efficacy than a mad or parasitic gesture. On the contrary suffering appears as inflicted with emphasis and conviction, for everyone must not only see that the man suffers, but also and above all understand why he suffers.

Someone in the crowd yells "GO FOR THE HAPPENING STAR" at one point and that person is my hero.

A game of skill everybody.

This needs a highlight reel. I just can't sit through 4 hours of Mario Party.

OMG, this is the single most entertaining thing on GB!!! The crowd really made this amazing, all of you who went and sat through that are heroes!!! XD

The cheers and chanting were really great, but holy shit the few people who thought they'd help out by repeatedly yelling terrible jokes that no one laughed at.

That may have been the perfect Mario Party Party. The only disappointment was that Jeff called it a "shit factory" and nobody yelled "Did somebody say shit factory!?". It was right there, crowd!

This was so much fun. Dan being the villain is great, he's a natural at it and it creates tension and drama that feels appropriate instead of uncomfortable. When it's 4 guys in a room getting mad when one guy's doing better than the other guys doesn't feel all that right. When a whole crowd is booing that guy, it's now a performance and it's totally fine for him to be smug or do dirty plays, and it's perfectly fine for you to root for him to get fucked over.

Why? Dan loved it, he encouraged it.

Crowd was great, kept the energy level up when the game usually starts to drag and made me feel so much more invested in watching heel Dan lose, he did a good job of playing in to the boos. Mario Party is really the perfect stupid game for a cheering and jeering crowd.

I thought it was all over when Brad threw, but god damn what an ending, it was like it was scripted, just perfect. The rise of people's champion Drew and kingmaker Brad. Favorite Mario Party Party yet, I hope they do another in front of a crowd.
