Quick Look: Arma III Alpha

A friend hooked me up with the "Lite" version, whatever that means. This could be fun though I'll probably be confused as all hell considering I have not played any of the OF and ARMA games.

I'd love to see more co-op in Quick Looks!

I love how there has been A LOT more Vinny in front of the mic/camera in recent weeks.

Brings us lovely things like this:

Ryan "The problem is, the A.I. behavior and Vinny's idiot behavior are indistinguishable from each other."

Just some great moments of bewilderment as Vinny confuses all to not knowing if he's in the boat or not. Really good to see this much of this alpha. Was hoping that Vinny somehow snuck around online to find the bird mod for this but he's a gem in this game.

New favorite moment in this is the sneak attack.

Giant Bomb delivers just at the right time when i had nothing to watch.

First I was like, YES drew is in this QL, and than Vinny came on the audio I was like AWESOME this QL will be fantastic!

I really like how Ryan and Patrick are sitting here criticizing the AI 5 minutes into the quick look. Know of any better dynamic, unscripted AI soldiers do you?

They can see through entire hills, they shoot threw just about anything, and often that just ends up being them shooting at the cover THEY are behind at the guy standing out in a field. There are a couple community made AI behavior modules for ArmA 2 that are awesome. But they are also necessary for a reason... They also aren't that dynamic. They have a path and behavior generally laid out for them, they just figure out the details. Or, they just drop to prone in combat, and find the most asinine path possible to their destination.

Holy shit, was that AI just using his binoc standing 10 feet in front of an enemy? Gotta love that Arma AI... lol

If ya want someone to play with, I have a small-ish group of guys that play semi-regularly in both ArmA 2 and ArmA 3. We're all fairly serious, but we are not crazy about it, and we're all easy going dudes that'd be more than happy to help you or anyone else on the staff figure out the game.

I'm also thinking of building a sort of obstacle course mission/map to help teach folks basic tactics if you're interested in that. Always fun to have people to introduce and help guide through the early teething stage in ArmA, because they can be intimidating. I remember my early days.

Good job showing off the game. I know this quick look is a bit silly, but you did about a million times better showing off the game than whoever that guy was on the New Release show from gamespot who clearly had no idea what Arma is actually about. For not really knowing your way around, you did a really good job showing the game off. It's not easy to do, haha. And this is coming from a pretty hardcore fan of the ArmA franchise.

And actually, you look like you have the makings of a good combat chopper pilot. Sticking low, etc.

The trade off of ending up with content people actually want to watch is probably fine by them. And people who continue to watch it.

Arma is 'weapon' in Spanish. The first game was called ArmA: Armed Assault but I think ArmA is just a word BIS made up because Codemasters is a buncha dicks and wouldn't let them use Operation Flashpoint.

Games looking good. After playing some DayZ I might eventually get this once it's released, but for multiplayer stuff only.

Vinny is a menace to society.

What do you expect? You'd have to spend hours and hours playing sim games to actually figure everything out and be able to talk about it, they don't really have the time to do that with every simulator game. Besides, people who are into sim games will already most likely know what they want to play and what not. These guys are just having fun with them and making funny video content, which is what everyone comes here for anyway.

If Vinny's not in it, it's not worth making.

@bishop113: Never watch QLs of games or series you are very invested in. There is no fun to be had.

@ch3burashka: People who bought the Arma 3 Alpha can send out "Lite" version invites to friends so that they can see wether they like the basic gameplay or can even run the game before purchasing it.

The "Lite" version has no multiplayer but it has some of the showcases and the mission editor. So basically it's a demo version of the Alpha.
