Quick Look: Call of Duty: Black Ops

Jesus, does it only take 2 shots to down someone in COD?

Never understood the awesomeness behind these interactive movie games. Load the mission up again, and do exactly the same thing you did before, and everything happens only if you reach the next waypoint. Nothing will ever play differently and you are just triggering scripted events.

Music? I don't know about the rest of you guys but I was listening to this weeks and last weeks Bombcast while I was smoking fools online. I credit my 25 levels to the soothing sound of Ryan Jeff Vinny Brad and Alex's voices.

What difficulty are these SP parts being played on? Because seriously, the PC version on Regular is like the worst of MW2 on Hardened/Veteran. MW2 Favela every other level. The worst of unfun aimbot AI. The training mode bots are the same, pray they don't get anything with decent range on it or they'll turn 360 degrees and snipe you in an instant. Massive failure on that point, there has been more realistic, sensibly behaving bots since Quake 1.

I'd pretty much decided that console shooters aren't for me, but man there is so much content here.  Don't feel like playing campaign?  How about some fully functional top-down MP shooter?  Maybe some computer hacking?  There's also zombies.  It's like they managed to appeal to everyone on some level.  And yeah, I had 5 friends on XBL last night and they were ALL PLAYING THIS.

ive finished every COD game ( except this one) and i never played any of them online, so I guess I'm part of the % of people they were aiming at with the bot stuff.

Oh Giant Bomb thanks for a long Quick Look. But please remember that these Quick Looks of popupar games are what people from google see, and therefore you should have your A-team on these. Brad is a bro, but I think Vinny should have tagged along instead.

I just wish there was a way to play the wager matches in a mode where I could earn XP off of them. Because I really do enjoy One In the Chamber and Gun Game, but you play one at a time, and half the time everyone who doesn't win drops out and you don't even get your winnings. And then you basically have to find a new match because all of the players leave. Or maybe, take away all of someone's COD points if they leave a match early or have too many disconnects. 

Thank you guys so much for this excellent look at Black Ops. I felt like I got a comprehensive overview of the many things the game has to offer, all of which looked quite cool, and the commentary was great.
The expert One in the Chamber match was a favorite moment as was the SP campapain moment at around 18:00 mins or so that had the "Keep your heads down!!!" screaming followed by Jeff rushing at the enemy, dual-wielding pistols xD

holy hell, 1 hour video?

As cool as all of the crazy features look, I just can't for the life of me feel any excitement for this game.  I'm always down for a good story but if I want multi player why wouldn't I just go back to MW2 other than "ooo, shiny new game."  If I want a zombie mode then I could just play L4D and don't even get me started on dual-joystick shooters.  The biggest problem is that all extra stuff that's thrown in just looks like off-shoots of older, better games.  This franchise is having a serious identity crisis and every bone in my body is saying "why buy when you can rent?"  Great video guys!  Keep fighting the good fight.

There's something oddly relaxing about watching that first One In The Chamber match. The critique at the end, almost like I was watching golf or something.
 
Also, looking at all that stuff on the computer is pretty neat.

Wicked cool, still really looking forward to playing this with the wager matches on the mutliplayer as well as the intriguing single player. After Unreal, Painkiller & other MP modes I just fell in love with the unique MP modes like the wager matches in Black Ops. Screw the currency those MP modes just look like a blast to play over the standard capture the point/DM/flag matches (which are also incredibly fun).  
 
Edit: after watching more of the MP in this QL, really liking nuke town & the map shown in the bots MP which have lots of human figures or moving targets to make the game more engaging esp. for the one in the chamber match where you don't have the ammo to waste on shooting some quick figure that turns out to not be a player/AI to shoot.

Dude, this is even longer than the Sims 3 Quick Look.

I just completed the campaign earlier today, so I don't have to worry while watching this.

What's with everyone pointing out the length of the quick look? Were these guys not around during the Endurance Runs?

Wait, they changed all that other stuff but they left the stupid strawberry jam blood effect? Did they actually play the last game? That was something even the most hardcore of fans bitched about.

I kind of didn't care about this game until I saw the quick look.  But there is SO MUCH STUFF in here.

These quick looks are getting longer and longer, not complaining though! 
 
Just an observation. 

I think Black Ops is better than MW2.

annnnd they were three shot burst, and always have been. and the levels they use it in here are 1961 annnnd not vietnam. 

Would love to see a QL of the real life RC car.

One in the chamber is my kind of game. It reminds me of playing Hide N Seek in Counter Strike.
