Quick Look: Costume Quest: Grubbins on Ice

After finishing my finals tomorrow I'll be downloading this bad boy ASAP.

I really dont understand why they made the combat like this in the game, it seems so basic. not saying its bad just seems like it would get really repetitive.

Most enjoyable game I've played this year and one of my favorite games of all time. DLC was small in size, but so was the price. Here's to hoping for more CQ.

Tempted to pick this game up now ... it sort of gives me an Earthbound vibe from the videos.  Accurate?

I wish one of the new costumes was a Santa Suit. Other than that, really enjoyed this DLC.

Damn, I too absolutely love that Statue of Liberty power.  

Great game, but the DLC only took me about 90 minutes. So don't go in expecting the time they mentioned in the quicklook.

The problem is I found myself always using the robot just to move around faster. And so having to switch costumes to do something else was annoying.

For 5 bucks. Sure why not!?

I enjoyed the game a lot and so did I girlfriends niece and nephew who watched me beat it, it was simple yet charming and brang back memories of being a kid on Halloween. I can also see why someone wouldn't like it, I guess it's whatever floats your boat. "

I was really hoping they'd speed up the combat, cut out extraneous cut scenes, etc. It's clear that, by all the QTE/minigame actions, it's following the formula laid down by Super Mario RPG. But what they SHOULD tweak it to play like, are the superior Paper Mario (or Mario & Luigi) games. And while that involves making more varied enemies too, they could also do a lot by just streamlining the battles as a process. Especially since this is extra content; everyone here played Costume Quest proper - we don't need to see transformation cutscenes anymore ;)
 
If the battles were as great as Paper Mario's, this game would be a classic. As it is, I found the combat to drag too much after a short while. I don't know if I'm up for more Costume Quest because of it...

Brad, I love you man, but you gotta play more games. Comparing Stacking to Assassin's Creed? Just because you do something to other characters when they're looking away from you? You really should pick up Space Station Silicon Valley (N64) sometime, or Messiah (PC). I demand a Quick Look Throwback!

Brad and Alex make a great combo!  Here's to more of them in quick looks in the future!

Thing is, Halloween is my favorite holiday and I was totally down with Costume Quest and bringing those feelings of "Being a kid on Halloween" back... until it played that same note, over, and over, and over again, for several hours. If the game was ~2 hours long, I'd be right next to everybody else going "YEAH, COSTUME QUEST WAS AWESOME" but it already felt like it was dragging its feet by the time I got to the shopping mall. Which is, you know, the second area in the game. "

This is more like... 2 hours. And it's fine, good writing, nice costumes and such, buy it if you would like to play a bit more CQ, you won't regret the purchase.

I was thinking about getting Costume Quest, but something about it turned me off. But this is making me reconsider, looks fun.

Oh fuck yes more Costume Quest!!!! I'm so excited!

Oh man, I saw this QL and thought I should finally finish the first one... turns out the new patch has introduced a game-breaking bug and the only solution (yet) is to either not update (too late) or start the game over again... argh... just my luck. :(

For what it's worth, this looks like a worthwhile addition to the main game. Oh, and the in-world save points are retroactive for the first game as well.

The update broke the french fry costume quest in the original game. I downloaded the update literally five minutes before getting to the french fry quest only to waste a bunch of time thinking I was doing something wrong... come to find out the quest is now bugged. It kind of put me off the game for a while. Given the repetition in the game replaying it to get back to that point again doesn't seem all that appealing.  The fact that this expansion is more of the same doesn't really make me too excited.

Battle stamps that stun/paralyze the enemy are the best.
