haha old.  But the game is really awesome.  I bought it.  Very slow tho.  Reminds me slightly of Silent Hill's atmosphere.  Too bad my computer sux bad.  The game is glitchy on it and it gets choppy as hell.  Still great game.

"Action Forms Ltd. is a game software developing company, based in Kiev, Ukraine." - From their official website. Strange that the GB review of the game makes the same mistake of calling it Russian even tho there is a link to their site.

Hmm the heat=health is a really interesting mechanic that has lots of implications by the looks of it.  Actually making you crave warm environments or heat sources and causing you to get edgy about being in really freezing parts of the ship seems a nice touch that really adds to the sense of immersion.

I don't think that's FPS lag dude, just the game being janky. The environments never seem to stutter as it would if that was FPS lag.

The game is extremely demanding with PhysX fully enabled.  Way more demanding than Crysis.  I haven't ever tried running it without PhysX because the water effects are pretty core to the technical side of the experience...

It's got some pretty big flaws but it's an interesting idea, I kind of like the concept. Never getting it though lol.

This QL annoyed me a bit, first time that has happened.  It seemed like Ryan was being very nit-picky because the game is not a AAA title.  I find a lot of times that heavily marketed games get their flaws ignored while smaller releases get every flaw concentrated on.

Maybe that's just me.

For what it's worth, Cryostasis is an extremely janky game in a lot of ways.

Yea, a lot of lower budget or obscure games get ragged on for dumb reasons, but Cryostasis has a lot of real problems.

Everything on high. It's a P4 3.2ghz, plus an XFX 7900 GT/GTO. I'm thinking it could go a few more rounds with a new graphics card as my 7900 only has 256MB of ram.

Cryostasis does have a lot of issues and is not a game for everyone, but games for everyone in my experience are often bland.  There is a large group of people who like the slow-moving survival horror style of game and I think they would love Cryostasis.  Anyone who liked Silent Hill for example.

Still, my point was more the focus on things like the sprint speed or attaching the crane.  Every game has little annoyances but in a Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty they seem to never be mentioned, while in a Cryostasis or The Saboteur they are the main focus of the comments.

It's nothing personal against Ryan, I think every reviewer does it to some extent.

It looks really nice and it seems atmospheric, but it also looks super stiff and even kind of obnoxious to control. Could have been great with a higher budget.

@claude, off subject, but i could barely get my P$ 3.6 with a 6800 ultra to make the frames move in stalker. I replaced the vid card only with a 8800gts and it did okay on good settings.

Also, love the way the semi-auto SVT-40 fires as fast as a bolt action in CoD:WaW. Forces you to actually aim.
Anybody who ever fired one of these Russian Beasts knows that there's no way you could accurately fire these rifles any faster than displayed in the game...

I've played the game and the game doesn't look nearly as janky as it is in the beginning of the quick look. I don't know what's up, maybe it's the capture.

Looks janky as all hell but it looks pretty cool and different. Just bought it off steam, I'll give it a shot once it's done downloading.

I'll assume that it's not so much that they think the game is actually from Russia, so much as a carry over from Soviet Union and referring to all of those countries as Russia, even though they were separate states with their own names, cutlures etc.

And there were far more enemies in this QL than I was lead to believe were in the entire game. Did they just set it up to a more action-y segment? Or is that same enemy dispersion found throughout the game

what are these problems people are speaking of tho?  I played through most of the game.  I went on vacation before finishing it and never got back to it.  Mainly my reasoning is because my PC just isn't good enough to play it.

That's the main issues I had with the game.  The gameplay itself I thought was phenomenal.  The problems were with how crappy the game ran.  Also, it was buggy for me.  I can't remember exactly but I had some issues with starting up the game.  It would always crash and I had to do something specific to make it even start up.  I asked for help on their main forums as well as here even but no one could help me.

Still got to play majority of it tho and highly enjoyed it.  I bought it off of Direct2Download for like half price because they were having some deal.  So this game for about 15 bucks is great.

I'd say if you are into games like Silent Hill and perhaps Siren...maybe even Demon's Souls (because it is hard) then you could probably find a lot to like with this game.  Of course this is an FPS but it's not like Halo or Call of Duty FPS so it feels kinda like a disservice to label it an FPS.

This game is amazing, but it ends pretty abruptly. And the final boss. And the ending. Whoa.. I understand what it means, but holy shit it takes a huge leap to connect it all.

And even then, you just gotta make some shit up to explain .. well, you'll see if you play it.

Don't think I could play this... it's like the game's out specifically to annoy you. The movement speed most of all, surely the devs were aware of this. Why then, for the love of god, would you put in dead simple puzzles that require you to cross the same room 4 times? Takes 4 minutes to actually do something that takes like 3 seconds to figure out. It's like it's slowing you down in every way possible, while there isn't too much interesting going on to begin with. I'd read the book, though. The story seems interesting.
