Quick Look: Cryostasis

I knew that behind-the-door-monster was going to be there, but I still jumped.

Oh ya, I've been waiting for these guys to do a quick look of this

Seems like a decent slow paced survival game, might check it out.

what are these problems people are speaking of tho?

This QuickLook is way behind schedule, its seriously one of the best games I've ever played, I was sucked in from beginning to end. Anyone looking for a different game with a great story and atmosphere should def look into this. The parallel story about Danko is simply brilliant and beautiful.^^

Yuck. The gun movement is too snappy.
 
Oh well I think I'd like it more than Bioshock.

AGH, I'm highly intrigued yet I know I won't be able to play it. >_<

 I can't really recommend this game. It is so buggy. I've got a high end computer and was barely passing 25fps in some areas. The game doesn't support multiple cores, and they aren't going to patch it. Don't bother with this game if you have an ATI card.

Gameplay is unbelievably slow. Forget about running. Reloading is laughably slow. You have all these enemies coming at you and it seriously looks like your casually loading a rifle for a duck hunt.

I think it was level 12 when I noticed I was in the crouch position. Tried to get out of it, didn't work. Started walking forward. Well, turns out I wasn't crouching, I was sinking through the floor. Now the screen is white and there is box above me where I guess I should be. Tried walking back to the box. Went through it. Reloaded the level. Walking through walls, ceilings, floors. This went on for a good 3/4 of the level.

Story is ok, but hardly worth the frustration you'll get from the gameplay itself.

oh man. i would love it if this came to consoles (since i highly doubt my pc could take it, and my good computer is a mac) but i doubt that will happen. it looks like my kind of game, though. atmospheric and unique.

Took you guys a while, huh?

• This game makes me feel cold like no other game before - reason enough to like it.

• I thought they did this QL months ago. They talked about it on the Bombcast. 

• It runs fine on a ATI card (you have no (NVidia) PhysX support, unless you have a PhysX card).
  

The game is extremely demanding with PhysX fully enabled.  Way more demanding than Crysis.  I haven't ever tried running it without PhysX because the water effects are pretty core to the technical side of the experience... "

played this game like  a year ago i enjoyed it 4 the most part and it ddnt crash as much as u mitve thot

I've been intrigued by this since Dave first started talking about it. Pity my PC can't play it though. May still pick it up sometime in hopes of one day upgrading.

the water effects look as pretty with no PhysX card - the Shader Model is the same. ATI cards do the same trick. What you don't get are some more detailed ice-breaking debris. The funny thing is, on NVidia cards PhysX turned off, the game runs faster.

Everything on high. It's a P4 3.2ghz, plus an XFX 7900 GT/GTO. I'm thinking it could go a few more rounds with a new graphics card as my 7900 only has 256MB of ram. "

If this game had been made by the guys who made Condemned it would be the most awesome game ever.
Now it just looks tedious.

Just finished downloading it off steam not long ago. It seems quite fun thus far and the game is simply beautiful. I really makes you feel like you're freezing.

Is the jerky gun movement intentional? The crew talked about it like it was an animation problem or something, but I just thought it was the dude is cold and he's shivering as he moves....

I got this game free with my EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 last week and it's awesome! The only problem I have with the speed is in the beginning when you have to go from point A to B. I ate my Hero before I got to the end.... O_o
 
BTW: The code to get it for free was in my profile on evga.com. I don't know what you need to qualify but check it.

this game looks amesome-tastic. didnt even know it existed. i'm glad Ryan didn't review it jeez, that guy hates everything in the world. even babies. 
love a game with a slow pace because its like real life. if i was in that situation in real life there's no way i would be runnin and Rambo-in my way through the ship. its gotta have good atmosphere though like this one and Demon Souls and Bioshock and Dead Space.

I agree with Dave, the snow effects are awesome.

I guess if there is such a thing as "open world jank" this would be "first person jank". Game looks really boring and the walking speed would just kill me.

When that guy rolled I busted out laughing...lol. Seems like a dull game but could be good.
