Quick Look: Dark Void Demo

The graphics in this game look like they're from 2003! I hope the game still doesn't look like this when it comes out.

ROBOT PUNCHING 5 STARS

Kinda wish they let Nolan change up his voice a bit, he is definitely capable of doing that. Was kind of bummed out with how short the demo was, didn't show off any of the vertical cover stuff, which they talked about a lot. Will probably still give this a look, though probably not a purchase unless it gets some pretty stellar reviews.

I'm already sick of Nolan North.
 
Uncharted.  Okay.  Assassin's Creed.  Fine (if not completely bland...).  Prince of Persia (who the hell are we kidding, it's just Uncharted with an Arabian Knights makeover, but okay).
 
But fuck, he's in EVERYTHING now.  And it's always the same wise-ass "everyman" character.  And by "everyman", I mean hollywood trying to pass this guy off as someone who's down to earth, but in reality, is just as much a superhero as any other action star.  Wow.  Stellar.

Can I be a pain in the ass and ask Vinny or whotever to boost the volume level up on the QL's.
 
I listen on headphones I have have to boost the sound to DOUBLE what I normally do to even hear it.

I thought the demo was really fun. I'll probably buy it when it's down to £15-£20

Uncharted 2 has made Nolan North typecast. i cant listen to this Dark Void dude's voice without thinking of Nate Drake flyin around. he even said "oh crap!" what a bummer.

Nolan North is getting greedy, already working on a Northy for 2010...

I think it's going to sell diddly-squat, tbh. It's an interesting idea, but the controls are too loose and imprecise for the kind of combat situations you're put in. Add a slightly mediocre third-person shooter element and you've got the next Bionic Commando (and I don't mean that in a good way).
 
In other words, it's heading for commercial failure, probably.

Have to disagree with Jeff.  When I was playing the demo the shooting didnt feel right.

Looks cool enough, although seeing the slides at the end kinda makes me wonder how gimmicky it actually is. Awesome as they are, jetpacks alone won't make me buy this.

The protagonist looks even MORE like Nolan North than Drake does. Why did they do that?

Hm, a little worrying how we haven't seen a whole lot of this game being played before this, and the demo is super short. It looks cool, hope it's polished (I know they pushed it back just to do that, but even so).

I'm liking the 'Halo'-ish drum beats in the soundtrack. As for the gameplay, it's decent, even good, but I'm not as excited as some people out there.

i played the demo it sucks, lame ass game. wasnt Jeff hyped up for this game some time ago? LOL

Looks pretty good, has a very over the top vibe to everything; the animations, weapons, and combat. I bet the end game is mad fun for just messing around with, once you have pimped yourself out. Probably get all Iron Man on peoples asses.
 
I had little to no interest in this game at all, but it has finally piqued it, so I'll give the demo a try, and possibly even pick up the game if I have the money.

HOLY SHIT. as soon as he got into the UFO all this game reminded me of was INDEPENDENCE DAY ON PSX.

I have to agree. Same with the flying, didn't feel at all right.   And the demo felt rather boring to me. Did not feel like "I have to buy this game" after finishing it. More like the opposite to be bluntly honest. "

I agree also. The shooting while on the ground just feels really loose and the default gun is complete trash whereby shooting them in the head takes about half of your clip as opposed to a full clip if you shoot them in the body. The flying I thought was ok until you have to do any sort of manoeuvring in a dog fight. Where you lock onto an enemy and try to aim while locked on, it's completely impossible. The reticle just zooms right by so you have to unlock and aim that way instead. My last complaint about the game from playing the demo is how long the QTE takes. Jeff took a minute to take that alien ship in this QL. A minute of wiggling a stick back and forth, sometimes tapping X or Y and holding down B. Why did they do this and what are the other space ships doing during this time? Are they just waiting for you to steal it and then shoot them? I was never very hyped for this game even from seeing a few videos for it despite lots of bloggers and press people being hyped for it. To me it just looked really mediocre to me and doesn't have much of its own identity as it blatantly rips off so many other games and the demo just cements my preconceived notions of this game.

I really liked Bionic Commando. (1k'd it). On the fence for this game. We'll see what the reviewers say, specifically GiantBomb as I got Assassins Creed 2, Bayonetta,and Darksiders to play in the next few weeks.

After playing the demo before seeing the QL, I was pretty sure the guys would deem it a Bummer.
Perhaps it's just that the PS3 version is a terrible port because the game looked and played pretty bad. While the flying was merely OK, the on foot stuff felt like Resistance Retribution. Not sure how Jeff found it to be "good". That stiff feeling might be excusable on a handheld, but in this post Uncharted 2 world, that shit isn't going to fly.
 
It's pretty tragic, seeing as I was looking forward to the game.

DOF is the most unrealistic effect ever. This is how I see when I forget to put my glasses on. It's the visual representation of nearsightedness. "

Cool, glad to see I'll be saving some money. I thought this was going to be fantastic after the long development time. Obviously that's not the case. Pass.

I played the demo and the jetpack use is extremely janky. It just doesn't feel finished. My excitement for this game has drastically diminished.

It's ok. I can't understand the hate, the controls just require getting used to a bit.

Looks like a lot of fun! Will try out the demo and make the purchase, if I like how it feels. Maybe I'll wait for it to hit the Bargain bin.
