Griping over the difficulty rankles me a bit, because the idea is you set it to a level that suits you. If it's too easy (regardless what the name of the difficulty is) just notch it up until it's challenging but not overwhelming. Don't leave it on a level that offers no challenge and complain that it's too easy.

I had friends that gave up on the PC version partway through Nightmare difficulty because they found it too hard, whereas I didn't have any problems until I hit Inferno. Everyone's different.

Yep, I didn't understand Jeff's inane complaining since he chose that difficulty from the outset. I guess he was trying to show how easy the game gets, but that's entirely the point of the game. As you get better, it's heavily suggested that you move up to higher difficulties. He could have tried it out at Master (since he doesn't have Torment unlocked yet) just out of curiosity to see how difficult the game can get. Then again, he says it's a good "zone out" game and if that's the case, that makes his complaint even more silly. If it were harder, he'd have to actually focus on not getting killed, so... what do you want, Jeff?

But really I think it annoyed me much more than it would have because I was on the treadmill while watching this quick look and just kept thinking "BLAME YOURSELF JEFF AND MOVE ON ALREADY".

I play on PC, but I don't really play Monk. One of my buddies does and though he recently moved to Wizard (more out of familiarity with the Monk than the class being shitty/boring), he really enjoyed his time with it. Since you'll be starting out from the very beginning along with others who may be playing Diablo for the first time too, you should be fine picking whatever class you want. As far as the class sucking, I've played on the higher difficulties with random people on PC that play all kinds of classes and they all pull their weight in the party. Really as long as it's fun for you, it doesn't fucking matter.

just face it, with today's marketing analysis. They don't want people to feel bad for choosing "easy" so they just delete that option and replace it with "normal" .

Coming back to Diablo 3 after the Loot 2.0 patch dropped I turned the difficulty up to the third tier and still felt like the game lacked challenge. Was overgeared was to quickly.

I would suggest you just ignore most of the stuff people say about what to play in forums. Most of the feedback people give are super late game related and not really relevant to new players(or the console versions). I rolled two different monks and really enjoyed them both times.

My first character was a monk and I had a lot of fun with her. Character tiers only matter at the higher difficulties (Torment 2+) and even then the differences are negligible at best. As well, tiers tend to fluctuate as new gear gets introduced, so you can never really guess at which class is "the best" for long. At the end of the day Blizzard does a fairly good job of balancing all the classes and making them equally viable for high-end content.

@slumberpunch: You only have to have the original disk because the "transfer save" option is handled in the game's menu. Once you transfer your save there is no use for the original ps3 disk. If you had just uploaded your save to the transfer servers before you sold it you would have been fine.

@ares42: As someone who prefers to have active control of a character, rather than mouse-clicking for movement, I like console Diablo 3 way better than PC. It is more cumbersome in the menus, but the "on the field" play feels way better to me - more like an action game. That said, it really is just a personal preference. I'm sure there are plenty of people who prefer clicky-clicky over mashy-mashy, I'm just not one of them.

@onlykris: @ssully: @myketuna: Thanks for your input, guys. I'll stick with the Monk at least for the story mode. If I'm honest if a character isn't considered the strongest it kind of appeals more to me anyway. Plus the female Monk looks super badass.

@myketuna: He literally said exactly what you are saying here, that he could move up in difficulty if he wanted to. His complaint was the name of the difficulty, since it's not very "Hard". It was a minor complaint, and he said as much.

@brad3000: Ye, that's sorta exactly what I was thinking about. Even though I'm pretty much a PC guy I could definitely see Diablo feeling better on consoles. The clicking really gets to you after a while, and "dodging" on PC has always felt really awkward.

Only jeff could make it through all of diablo 3, with expansion, without realizing that difficulty in D3 is a gear check, not a descriptor of difficulty.

(im sure other people could also do this, but idk. I just started up D3 last week since the recent changes and it was immediately apparent to me. love you jeff)

Right, right. Although if it's just that, that's even worse. Games name difficulties so crazily now that taking them at face value (if you can considering some of the odd names) is dubious at best.

Sure, as I said it was only a tiny complaint and he didn't make a big number out of it. Anyways, Jeff likes playing these games on a pretty easy difficulty, so I'm sure it's really just about the name being weird.

Any time I see the GB guys play this game, and talk about it, it still just seems boring to me. I mean, it's great that there's console versions now, and controller controls would go a long way to make the game palatable to me, but I'm still not interested.

ARPGs are weird. I don't think I actually like them that much, but I find myself playing quite a few of them. There's something enjoyable about the mindless nature they support, letting me listen to music or watch some episodes of a television show along with it. Marvel Heroes has been that for me lately, even though I'm often bored after just a few minutes when I play it.

Dammit, I started goofing around with WOW again because Dan reminded me how fun it could be and now I kind of want to dust off Diablo 3 too and goof around with my 20 something crusader. I need to stop watching these Blizzard quicklooks. On the plus side, I suck at StarCraft so any encyclopedia bombastica of the original StarCraft or something would absolutely not tempt me.

Oh, and it's nice to see a Brad and Jeff combo again! We need to find some kind of ridonkulous indie game for you two to play during the final leg of the 2014 summer gaming drought. Something absurd that just blows Jeff's mind. Hm... *chin scratch* I'm too damned deep in Blizzard right now to think of anything. Giantbomb's fault, by the way. Totally not blaming myself for weak willpower. :-P

On the 2.0 PTR/RoS Beta server, the difficulties were originally called "Easy/Normal/Hard/Expert", and the description for "Easy" was that it was 25% easier or whatever. At some point, they found that people refused to select "Easy" even if it was the appropriate difficulty for them because it felt like a "punishment" due to having lower XP and gold rewards. So they left all the scaling values the same, but renamed them to "Normal/Hard/Expert/Master" and changed the descriptions so that they were all +X% over the new "Normal" baseline, even though all the HP/damage and XP/gold values were actually identical.

Anyway, Diablo 3:RoS is basically all about figuring out your personal upper limit and pushing your way past it, until you find the sweet spot for you. If Jeff thinks Hard is too easy, all he has to do is bump up the difficulty until he's not having fun anymore.

The difficulty isn't really about being hard or easy it's just about what gear you have and that's always how it's been, can't do torment level 3? Okay then do Torment 1 until you get better gear, is hard mode easy for you? Then move up a difficulty level because you've out-geared hard mode.

Sounds like the definition of a casual game to me.

Watching other people play ARPGs is just not fun, which makes it kind of amusing that there's so many D3 quicklooks on the site. Brad was probably daydreaming of dota or portillo's the whole time, for once I can't blame him if he was sleepy. Played a lot of D3 at launch and sometimes get that itch to play the expansion but eh, idk, I want a new IP from Blizzard or something, feels like they're just phoning it in for years now while milking WoW and playing everything safe and my frothing Blizzard fanboyism has fallen off a cliff.

Now I don't know if I should get it on PS3 or get it on PC. On PC I need to buy the original game first so it becomes twice as expensive and I loose my PS3 save.

Actually, if you put Diablo 3 in your cart from the BNet store on PC and you don't own either vanilla, nor the expansion, it should say "Hey, we'll cut you a deal and you can get both for a total of $60 right now". If they're still doing that, then absolutely buy the PC version.

Thanks. getting it for €60 on PC is still more than the €40 of the PS3 version but might be worth that extra bit of money. Only problem is I prefer playing on console because my fiance let's me play as much as I want on console but on PC she wants to use the computer too so I cannot use it as much. But thank you for informing me. I will consider it.

@luke62: I absolutely agree. Getting good looking gear is half of what motivates me to look for loot in the first place. It also removes the choice between stats and looks. It just dumbs it down a bit more.

@luke62: The point is when the really cool item turns out NOT to look really cool. This way you're not stuck equiping it purely for the stats boost, but can transmog it to make it look cool. IMHO, I hate it when I'm forced to wear ugly armor just because it has better stats.

Yea the new difficulty modes are bullshit. I still dont know how they just up and ditched Normal, Nightmare and Hell modes. Those were iconic to the Diablo games. Blizzard CAVED HARD to the whining players. Made the game a total cake walk, and just throw legendary items at you left and right. They really turned it into a casual game.

Blah blah blah. I'll keep enjoying the game while you whine.

wish the anti-aliasing was handled better on pc. had to use some weird thing called radit to get it to work properly, and when i did framerates wouldn't crack like 45fps. using the in-engine stuff it's regularly 100-140fps but everything's still kinda jaggy or blurry as fuck. doesn't seem like it'd be too difficult to apply decent AA without sacrificing too much of framerate with a game of this graphical fidelity.

Really looking forward to this. I don't play on PC much with the exception of strategy games, so this will be my first go at it. Love that you can customize the look of your gear, my brother gets so mad at me in these types of games because I won't equip a better item if I don't like the way it looks. Problem solved :)

Console version is definitely the best to play in my opinion. I've played thousands of hours of D1-3 on PC, but after having gotten the D3 platinum on PS3, playing on PC is the one that feels clunky. Sure the console radial menus are a little clunky when you start, but it does become second nature after a few hours. There's definitely no substitute for active control vs click-to-move/attack.

I'll definitely be picking this up on PS4 to satisfy the periodic urge, though only after it goes down in price, as I've already put a significant number of hours into RoS on PC. Buying the game and the expansion twice each is pretty rough.

I love the actual gameplay that the gamepad provides but unfortunately the inventory management and everything else involved with the gamepad just sucks. Honestly, the PC version still seems to be the best bet, but the game is still a LOT of fun either way you go. Just don't take the story seriously - at all - treat it like pulp fiction.

I'm really into "podcast games" like this at the moment. In my case it's usually an MMO I chip away at when doing that, but there's not really been anything I've been interested in dedicated time to right now.

The Destiny Beta filled out that spot for me nicely, running the same missions over and over to grind rep and level up weapons, so I'm looking forward to the full game.
