Just beat this DLC and I can safely say that, for the price, it's the best bit of DLC I've ever played.

You get 3 levels, 2 of which are huge, open ended affairs made up of 2 separate areas (broken up via a single load screen) while the third is a retread of one of the latter levels of the main campaign, but with completely redone objectives and enemy placement. There are a variety of ways to get into the second areas of each level and also multiple ways to beat your objectives (multiple ways to neutralize targets also).

It's around 4-5 hours long if you play through it stealthy and more than two-thirds of that is all new content (with some re-used assets for the second area but it's not hugely noticeable). Only the final hour feels a little bit like recycled content but, even then, it makes sense in terms of the narrative and is still a really well done mission.

Highly recommended if you enjoyed the main game. It does end abruptly as the third and final DLC will end Daud's story but, for what you get for the price, I really ain't complaining.

EDIT: Also, Patrick, for THE LOVE OF GOD, CROUCH. You don't suffer any movement penalty and guards will take longer to see you. Also, lean everywhere, They can't see you if you're leaning and it's the best way to scout out ahead.

Also, hint 2 - wait between power usage and your mana will auto-recharge. That way, you'll almost never run out.

Hint 3 - take your thumb off the movement stick when you hold blink - time will freeze, you'll remain suspended in mid-air if you jumped and have as long as you want to target a new location. Useful for trying to get to those tricky to reach places.

(I realise that this is a QL and he's likely rushing through it but nearly all of what I mentioned above isn't really well explained in the game itself so might be useful for anyone else getting into this)

I gave this a quick go this evening, it was tough to just jump straight back into Dishonored. :P Looks way cool, though.

The summon assassin ability seems like a really cool replacement for the rat swarm, which I never used much in the original.

I played through dishonored recently for the first time and really enjoyed it... more than bioshock infinite actually. Definitely recommend giving it a shot if you haven't played it yet. Not sure why the guys here didn't like it when it was released.

@beachthunder: just played it, fantastic little time waster :D

now if only they'd flesh it out a bit more, though that would probably dilute its charm.

Important detail not mentioned - while aiming a blink with Daud time stops. It's a pretty cool change.

The Blink ability IS actually different in this DLC. When not moving, or even in mid-air, holding the Blink button will freeze time. This makes more maneuvers possible, like jumping away from an edge, freeze in place, do a 180, then blink to a ledge above.

Question to those who played the DLC: How do you track down the runes/bonecharms without the heart? Is there an equivalent ability?

Though it's been a while since I last played Deus Ex, I'd argue (preferably at a later date) that Dishonored has more in common with the Thief series than Deus Ex. I don't remember Patrick ever talking about having played any of the Thief games. Anyone know about that? He certainly never mentions it with relation to Dishonored, especially since Dishonored plays so much like a Thief game (if you let it) and the sneaking and skulking seem right down Patrick's alley.

[edit] Thief is fucking awesome. As is Deus Ex, but slightly less sharp on the execution.

"Daud" is the old Norwegian word for Death it's now been substituted with the word "Død" the old version is however still used in some regions of Norway and also in "nynorsk" or "new norwegian", an odd language we force the kids to master at the end of grade-school.

Yeah, I agree, the graphics weren't that great even when it came out, but mechanically and... aurally? it is impeccable. Some of the best atmosphere in gaming. I still play it from time to time (the sequel as well. Oddly, never played the Gold version. WTH!). The third installment is pretty darn good, too (Shalebridge Cradle mission comes to mind. Holy shit, Patrick would love that one).

Seriously, what a great DLC. THIS is how you make DLC. A fucking 5 hours long campaign, not a 1hour-long, overpriced and useless add-on. It even has replayability. I used to purchase SP DLC for many games, only to get disappointed by the overall lack of everything. Last one that comes to my mind is Vergil's for DmC. It was completely pointless. Same with Jetstream Sam for MGRising.

Patrick ain't the best at stealth, maybe that's why he doesn't like stealth mechanics. But I do understand he may not be playing it as he normally does at home where he can concentrate.

25 minute quick look of Dishonored - less than a minute spent crouching.

I understand that the whole, "these guys play games for a living - why are they so bad" comment has been said time and time again; but seriously - the way he's playing this game, basic camera movement etc., is like someone who doesn't play video games at all.

I hate myself every time I point this out, but it is kind of mind blowing.

Seeing someone try to play Dishonored using a gamepad, with that low FOV is just sad... this game really, really needs to be played with a keyboard and mouse, and with the FOV cranked. It just looks slow, clunky and unfun this way.

If there wasn't something so intrinsically ugly I find about the world/art design, I'd be more inclined. I feel bad about it because I'm missing out. Perhaps I just need to play it where I am not nastily back stabbing/ liver shanking every one I meet, which is how I played Deus Ex. That is, tranq dart 1/2 of the time. Certainly I can see the honesty in the art design in Dishonored, Dunwall must be a nasty place to live in, for most. I do believe I'm getting this game this summer....

Yes, I luv Bioshock Infinite..go figure.

Everybody complaining should complain a little more. If these Quick Looks have taught me anything, it's that they hear your complaints and change their playstyle accordingly.

Oh wait, no they don't. All that happens is that things stay the same, and the rest of us are forced to hear you babies bitching and whining.

First off I liked the quick look... gonna have to pick this up so I have an excuse to avoid yard work on Saturday! :-)

@ryan: <pedant mode on> MD 20/20 (Made by Mogen David hence the MD) is not malt liquor but a fortified wine (and - much like Thunderbird, Night Train or Cisco - is a "bum wine"), the alcohol content of this kind of wine is often boosted with brandy (though straight grain is almost certainly used by some because it's cheaper)... <pedant mode off>

While I'm here I'm going to formally request a bum wine tasing durning an Unprofessional Friday would be a fun thing for all involved (or, at least, the viewers at home)...

Ancillary attachments (I couldn't find any MD commercials covering their "non-premium" wines):

Ripple (unfortunately it would appear the Ripple is no longer made...):

I played and finished it on 360. On subsequent playthroughs managed never to be discovered, not to kill anyone and so on, while finishing it in about two hours.

It's more than suited to be played with a controller, it's just a matter of getting the gameplay principles down.

Bought this last night and after 20 minutes I remembered why I liked this game so much. The little improvements to the gameplay they made (such as stopping time when blinking) are a welcome addition.

Worth the price of admission!

@osaladin: Or maybe it's because hes playing with a controller. I've been playing this DLC and I've had perfect precision with the blink ability with the mouse. But they, that's just me.

I find it hilarious when Patrick explains whats different/better about Dishonored when compared to Deus Ex(at 14 minutes or so). I spent plenty of time waiting for the AI path to go where it was supposed to in Dishonored. The only difference between Deus Ex and Dishonored is enemies can apparently see through walls in Dishonored while I'm waiting for them to do so(as that happened several times in my playthrough).

Seconded.

Also Patrick, Blink has been fundamentally changed in this. Pretty essential.

Edit: Well, that was painful to watch. Still, good on 'em for informing folks on more Dishonored.

As he says its not the way he would play it at home. I remember playing this game and the way I played, which sounds simillar to Patrick would be very boring to watch. Lots of creeping about, waiting and sneaking - not entertaining to watch. I think he is concious of not trying to bore people and it gets a bit messy.
