I've been eagerly waiting for a QL of this game!

The fact the of the matter is that it doesn't need the artstyle, and would probably be more well recieved without it. I don't discount the games merits and probably will buy the game; but that doesn't mean that the art isn't unnecessarily over the top.

Interesting to get the GB guys' take on this whole thing.

Whatever, the game looks INCREDIBLE. You are discounting the entire look because of a few, few stylistic choices. Its overall one of the greatest looking 2D games out there, and probably the best beat em up ever made.. but gets unnecessary hate for arbitrary reasons that are only brought up because the latest fad in social media.

If they drop the Vita price at Gamescom, this will be my first purchase.

The art style in general is pretty good, but it's a shame they decided to give women giant breasts for no reason. It's worse than mainstream comic book art, and that's saying something.

Yeah, it's going to almost be as bad as the weird defense force for incredibly dumb artistic choices in an otherwise fantastic looking game.

You're absolutely correct, blatant over-sexualization NEVER got called out before twitter. It's why everyone loves and respects all comic book art ever.

I'm not personally offended by this game's artstyle, but it's the type of game I'd feel embarrassed to be playing in a woman's presence. It certainly won't stop me from picking this up after a price drop. Beat 'em ups stopped being interesting to me in the 90's, but the loot system appeals to me. Loot makes all games better.

Like everyone you seem to completely IGNORE the male cast, have you seen the dwarf and the fighter? How are they proportionally correct?

I dislike brawlers but I'm really digging this artstyle.

This looks kinda fun.

I also still don't see why people complained so much about the art in this game.

A little awkwardness aside, I thought it was cool to have a gamespot duder in a quicklook.

And surprise, everyone talking about the art style and not the game in general. Nice to learn the game is not a straight hack and slasher but more like a Diablo style game, and that the game is still good while in single player. Still not for me but surprise in how good the reviews are.

@columnbreaker: people today tend to be outraged by everything. This is just another example of that, one that only a few vocal groups on the Internet really care about. I'm buying this tomorrow and showed my wife the character designs and she just laughed and said it looked stupid, which is kind of the point.

There's a new push for the whole women and feminism in video games which really has no place when you consider the vast majority of people that play games like this are men. Don't get me wrong, if a game demeans women, that's a bad thing, but in this circumstance it's not demeaning women, it's just dumb.

@horseman6: I showed my fiance this as well and she was pretty disturbed by the depiction of women but otherwise loved everything else about it. It's not as simple as your small circle of experience/opinions nor mine, I'd love to play this game but I really cannot abide the poor choices. I'm all for stupid, this is stupid, but leans more on the offensive end of stupidity then the fun end for me.

Anyways, I think this game looks really cool. Some of the art may be a bit awkward (I'm thinking more of the woman just spreading her legs right up in your face than the proportions), but I love loot games like this one. Gonna pick it up for sure after I've finished TLoU.

The dwarf's design exaggerates the features that make him a dwarf. The fighter's design exaggerates the features that make him a fighter. The witch's design exaggerates tits. The amazon's design exaggerates ass. Do you see the difference?

I am sure the game is good but they have taken away the focus on the fact that its a good game by drawing it in a way that does nothing positive for it.

Hey another stupid comment thread about Dragon's Crown; QL seems fine just wish it was funnier; lack of Jeff hurts.

I'm not saying you shouldn't care, obviously you do, and there is nothing wrong with that. Personally though I just don't - the art style does not grab me one way or the other. She has huge breasts, oh well, the knight looks ridiculous as well.

If women find this depiction of female characters incredibly offensive and sexist then that's their right to do so and they can choose not to buy the game. While I won't defend the art style itself because that's purely subjective for everyone, I will always defend a developers freedom in choosing it. Never should any developer feel pressured to change any aspect of their work simply because some people might not like it.

We should not try to differentiate everything.

We should make everything as close to reality as possible.

Trying to look normal is the only option you should have.

Wait, what?
MASSIVE MUSCLES on every fiber of his being is the characteristics of a dwarf? The shoulder width that puts any bodybuilder to shame on the fighter is exaggerated but somehow fine because of the archetype?
The Amazon is incredibly well defined with abs and massive well trained legs. The reason she has little clothing is because that is how Amazons always are depicted.

The art is clearly exaggerating something about every character, its all crazy and shouldn't be taken so seriously.

This game's art looks fantastic. I'd pick this up if I wasn't strapped for cash at the moment.

Everyone mentions the sorceress's boobs or the amazon's ass but what really gets me are the archer's thighs. HNNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnng.
