Quick Look: Dreamkiller

Yay! Another Dave Quick Look!

Just a quick correction. There is no "fear of bears" level. The third level, which is fear of machinery, has some enemies that look like mechanized bears though. Had a moment of memory loss there in the quick look. 
 
In any case I played a lot more of this game over the weekend (for what reason I can't rightly say) and can verify that the game continues to be well... not good. There's three big problems. 

1. The weapons do horrible damage and even though you'll get some new ones in later levels the minigun/rocket combo continues to be your best option. With the minigun part doing very little damage it means you mostly end up just running around levels waiting for your rocket launcher to reload.
2. The enemy variation per level is slim. You'll usually only see 3-4 new enemies of the same theme each level and they act pretty much the same across the board.
3. Starting wit the second level the game introduces an Ikagura style on/off parallel world where you have to jump through portals just to kill enemies of that type. While I could see some people get excited about Ikagura as an FPS, believe me... it is extremely frustrating.

Is there a 'fear of bad games' level?

I loved painkiller but i see no reason for me to buy this game...

Alice Drake. Reminds me of Alex Drake in the British television show Ashes to Ashes. 
 
I wonder how my level would be like since I've got aquaphobia. It's pretty much my only phobia. I can barely play submarine games because when I see the ships sink after I torpedo them I almost panic out of fear (like in Silent Hunter 3/4 when the camera follows the ship down into the dark abyss). Also if I fall down into the water in BF1942 (not that I've played that in years) I have to climb up the net to the carrier as fats as possible or I get quite scared. It seems stupid when I think about it.

I totally agree with the Doom3 vibe to this, to be honest it doesn't make me want to rush out and purchase it looks kind of bland, and the best thing I seen in this QL was the fancy high budget cinematic!

" @snide: Sorry Dave but it looks like Jeff duped you into buying this. The original developers of Painkiller ( People can Fly) are now part of Epic Games and Mindware's only real claim to fame is making a largely underpar expansion to that game.  BTW did you feel nauseated after playing this for a while ? Because I was feeling pretty sick after watching the quick look. I don't know what it was because I'm used to playing fast paced shooters. :/ "

Ahh.. Too much mouse sensativity going crazy all over the screen. Could barely tell what was happening.

Man, That is the saddest minigun I've ever seen. You would think, if this developer had worked on the Painkiller franchise, they would have learned a thing or two about making weapons seem ridiculous and awesome. That game also had the missile launcher/chaingun, but it was totally BRUTAl and fun to use.

I can't believe there's a 360 version of this too; I guess the makers of crappy budget FPS games felt like they needed to branch out and inflict their creations on the rest of the gaming world.

I hate spiders too.. a lot.. they all should die but for some god awful reason.. they must live in order for the world to work.. damn ecosystem.. 

well....I played some of Painkiller but this game looks like a major step down in quality.

This looks terrible ;S I'm glad Mindware arent destroying the painkiller franshise more than they already have (i believe another company has picked up that licence so that responsibility falls to them) What the hell happend to "People Can Fly" (the devs behind the original, decent Painkiller) i know they worked on the pc port for Gears of War but they've gone off the radar since then which sucks if crappy developers like Mindware are still able produce games but they cant...

This game looks incredebly bad. I couldnt even watche the whole QL because I got so god damn bored. Never happened before. Not even whit Darkest of Days

wow this game was frustrating to watch someone else play. I can't imagine how monotonous it is to handle.

I think it's ridiculous to criticize them for having the spiders appear out of the ground when half life 2 did it with antlions, albeit a more detailed animation.
