Also, people like Dynasty Warriors for various reasons. Some like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, some like the fighting and some like the characters. It's one of my favorite franchises because of all of that.

It is super fun. Now i do love the amount of people who don't like this game who are out and about crapping there pants in anger over the fact that there is a game that came out that some one else might like, but you don't. HOW DARE THEY NOT CATER TO YOU AT ALL TIMES!!

It is fun if you are a fan of the series and you like the game play and i for one am happy they did not change it up to make it better for the jackoff's that where never going to buy it to begin with.

Pretty good dynasty warriors game if your a fan of the genre. Get the ps3 version if you have a ps3 though. This game wont change the mind of anyone who never liked these games though.

I love Dynasty Warriors, but I think you need to experience it as a 12-13 year old boy if you want to understand that love.

360 version is apparently busted. PS3 version runs as intended. Props to Jeff and Vinny for giving the game a quicklook and having some serious discussion about the gameplay.

Also, if youre interested in DW Gundam 1 and 3 are safe bets- 2 is not worth it. 1 has the great story presentation, three has deeper mechanics, lots of suits (including 00 and Unicorn suits) and is way less grindy + has an actual story (even though not nearly as good as 1) than DW Gundam 2.

Maybe you have to play all the Destiny Warriors games to find the hidden good part of it.

I wish I knew someone who actually liked and played this.

So do the regular dudes ever attack? What is the purpose of having thousands of guys in an army if all they can do is hold a weapon and run after someone with a name? When one guy in the other army effortlessly kills 700 of your men you really need to rethink your battle tactics. It seems like this game would be a lot more interesting if regular guys did more than stand around and die.

Dynasty Warriors and its fans truly baffle me. How are there so many fans of this horrible, horrible game? Is it some kind of joke I'm not in on?

Turning up the difficulty really changes the game for the better. Regular enemies become much more aggressive and do enough damage to wear you down if you aren't careful, and significant enemy leaders are a major threat that you need to rally your army together against in order to take them down. When you combine that with your success or failure at your character's role in the battle frequently being the difference between your allies coming together to wear down the final enemies or you desperately trying to protect your general against a series of nearly invincible juggernauts it makes for an experience that I've never really found anywhere else.

If I was going to point to one thing as being the critical flaw of the Dynasty Warriors franchise it's that the best parts of the experience aren't there at the default settings.

The game slowed down to a crawl when Vinny joined in split screen. It looks fucking awful in every way. Voice acting, graphics, gameplay.

I don't understand why anyone would like this.

I like these games - played most of them since 2. I don't currently think they're especially unique, or well crafted; but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with them. I don't know why people are acting as though that's an unbelievable concept.

For a person that loves beat-em-ups these types of games are about all I have to look forward to as I am not a huge fan of the third-person character action games (God of War). I feel you, gamer.

Undubbed Sengoku Basara continues to be the only game in this genre that I actually really like.

I also get some weird enjoyment out of the NNN series, despite realizing how absolutely terrible it is.

I think the last one of the proper DW games I played was DW4 on the PS2. Seems like they are at least attempting to add new mechanics and moves, but these should not still be full-priced $60 console games at this point. I can't believe that these games still look like they are running on the PS2.

I'm one of the people who are suckers for these things, but I think Sengoku Basara (which is a Capcom thing, not KOEI) and Warriors: Legends of Troy (this IS a KOEI joint, but uses Greek Mythology as a setting, which I'm into) are better than any of the actual Dynasty Warriors games.

Never did see much appeal after the first one of these games. Great concept, poor (or too arcadey) execution.

The mirror "mini" map cover more then 1/3 of the screen in 2 player. Single digit FPS aside, shouldn't games stop using vertical split screen with wide screen TV being the norm?

And feel like an idiot finally figuring out what KO meant after all these years of fighting games.

It's not the deepest game out there, but I really don't understand the hate.

If anything, these games are the natural evolution of stuff like Final Fight and Streets of Rage.

The Samurai Warriors launch game for the 3DS didn't chug as much as that.

@vitor: As this is set in ancient China I don't know why you're talking about Japanese. In Chinese "Lan" is blue, "Lv" is green, and "Qing" is like the colour of the sea... a bluey green.

Do not play the rest of them before getting to this one. They're all relatively similar. A few items are added between the games, rarely a few characters. Other than that everything is the same.

I hate to say this, but is this really the "fairest" of Quick Looks? You guys used a bad port, the 360 version wasn't released in Japan....

Dynasty Warriors shines on harder difficulties when you are used to characters, it's about unlocking characters and unlocking weapons/items (which can only be unlocked through doing certain things on certain stages on higher difficulties), when you are starting out its a bit shit, however all the "I don't understand why they are still making these" argument could be applied to basically any game - would they still be making them if they didn't sell well? Hmmmm, I wonder....

The number of characters (none of whom are clones), just shows where the depth is...
