This exchange cracked me up:

Jeff: Wait, you're just driving it directly to a bakery?

Dan: I think that's the plan.

Jeff: This is a fucking bad plan.

We're not in Kansas anymore!

These conversations is why I like Giant Bomb. Thanks Dan and Jeff.

P.S.

And of course also Jeff Gerstmann's sage playing advice like:

"Jump in front of that combine!"

"Can you jackknife and flip that thing over?"

"Run over that speed limit sign!"

How come Jeff and Dan pronounce grocery as "gro-sherry"? Is this a regional thing? None of my American friends pronounce it this way.

IANAF, but because I have a basic understanding of the world:

The combine removes the grain from the wheat plant. The grains get milled to become flour. That gets made into bread. Yeast is a type of fungus, that is another component of bread (and beer), which is used to make the dough rise to bread. So in Dan's mind, eating bread means you are eating fungus.

Chickens are usually either bred for meat (force fed to grow as fast as possible, slaughtered young) or for eggs (slaughtered when they don't lay eggs fast enough anymore, or die because of the horrible treatment)

Monsanto is indeed the largest company selling genetically modified seeds. Farmers are only allowed to use them once per season. So if they buy those seeds once, they are pretty much stuck with it because the usual workflow of saving some seeds for next year is no longer possible. Monsanto also tends to buy farms in areas that don't buy their seeds, so after a few years other farms also have some of the modified plants through normal pollination. Then they sue the other farms for infringing on Monsanto's copyrighted seeds, giving them the choice between bankruptcy by lawyer fees or becoming a customer. They also make the weedkiller Round Up that is thought to be responsible for the decay of the honey bee population. Monsanto is pretty much the largest reason people hate GM crops. Even if you don't have an issue with modifying the DNA of plants for better growth, disease resistance,... there is a huge issue with one company trying to monopolize the availability of crop seeds.

I had to stop. I don't mind people not knowing things, but there's something about not really knowing and yet still coming to condemning, broad and reductive conclusions that is hard to listen. Specially when you where expecting some farming simulator wacky stuff ala Vinny instead.

Just have to say it.....im sorry.

Yes the climate changes....it always has, no we arent doing it, and no, taxing exhaling wont do anything but make politicians more powerful.

The "science" has been turned into a government funded welfare program for researchers who get paid to get a specific result. (No different than when cigarette companies funded their own studies about smoking)

Again, i apologize for going there, but after studying this subject, ive found most climate "science" is built on sloppy computer models, knowingly skewed data, and "peer" reviewed studies.

Most importantly, every single prediction, forecast, and warning made by climate change advocates in the last 20 years has not only been wrong, but embarrassingly so. Just go back ten years and read the hurricane models by climate "scientists".....then read the data. Then do Arctic sea ice coverage. etc.

Ive never encountered another scientific endeavor which allows its most respected academics to be wrong every time and lose zero credibility.

Its a subject i encourage everyone to dig into.....dont just believe what i tell you or what anyone tells you. Dig in. All the data is available.

Thank you for allowing me to say my peace.

Sure, this QL is probably not fair against the game but I have to agree with Jeff when he said "This doesn't look fun". I like some simulator games and have been thinking about getting a Farming Simulator for a while, but this game doesn't feel right. It feels like the game should be more simulator-like or more arcade-like. Now it's in the middle grounds.

The farming and driving feels trivial.
Too big of a farm to start with (maybe there are starting options?).
Teleportation - feels like abuse.
Worker hiring on the go - again teleportation, too easy.

In short:

I would prefer to start poor with a crappy tractor and I want buttons to push (like a flight simulator or at least like in My Summer Car).

The seed varieties are patented, not copyrighted. I wouldn't say that Monsanto isnt necessarily trying to monopolize anything, they are just a well run business within the capitalist system. At a certain time, its less "screw them they are evil" and more "well, why don't we do what they do but better?" Monsanto makes Roundup, which is an incredibly effective pesticide. Then, they patent seed varieties that are resistance to the damage that Roundup could cause to the plants. So they make the poison, and also the things which can resist the poison. Just good business. The makers of the best thing are going to control the market, so why should they stop? Sure they are pretty huge assholes when it comes to litigation, but they really need to be. Have to protect your investment

I mean, sure, go ahead with all these tangents but ehh..

Dan got it all WRONG!!!! How can he be soooo dumb!!! ARGGGGHHH!!! Everybody knows that CHICKENS are quantum creatures which constantly phase in and out of reality. Most of the time they reappear as regular chickens (though missing a few feathers, of course). Sometimes they phase back in as EGGS. Which is how we get EGGS, DAN!!! It is still a mystery how they know to return to the nest, but SCIENTISTS are working on that. Sometimes they return to the 3rd Dimension as NUGGETS. Mmmmm, nuggets.

The global temperature has changed more in the past century than the previous 5,000 years before 1900. No amount of "sloppy computer modelling" can change that basic fact.

Grow up. Stop trying to be a clever contrarian. The world isn't flat, vaccines aren't evil, and anthropogenic climate change is reality.
