I didn't expect to get that much entertainment out of the two QLs of the game. Very funny stuff guys. I love to see these videos of niche games a lot.

I bought the first IL-2 Sturmovik back during what I think was one of Steam's holiday sales, which in retrospect was a damn stupid idea since I don't have a joystick or gamepad to plug into my computer. But what little I was able to understand was enjoyable, I ended up just flying away from all the action just to fiddle with the controls and such.

I can only imagine the reaction of console people if during a Halo/Killzone match the game froze up and a pop-up window told them the game "stopped working". PC is still awesome anyway.

That happens though, since the last generation (or even the original Xbox) are pretty close to how PC's work, they have a lot of the same problems, just with fewer of the positive aspects, like customization or the ability to actually troubleshoot the problems you get, instead of just restarting the console and hoping for the best.

I've had as bad sound, graphics and lockup issues on my PS3 and a friend's 360 I've had at my place for a while as I've had with my laptop and desktop machines, but instead of being able to go into the settings and try to change something all I've been able to do have been "maybe it'll work if I pause for a while, or go back to the main menu", but as you don't get any indications on where something is going wrong (is it a game bug? Is the console overheating? Is something severely wrong to the degree that I should contact support?), there's just nothing I can do to track the problem down.

At the beginning I was like, this is gonna be super boring, but it was freaking awesome, shame for the bugs. Drew really likes these obscure games.

Loved the moment of Drew flying in a parachute & Vinny asking if he had a handgun. The most extreme flying/floating simulator.

IL - stands for ILYUSHIN which is the last name of the designer (Design Bureau).  Properly would be pronounced (and is pronounced by Russians such as myself as (phonetically) EL, the way Vinny pronounces it the first time, they are first 2 letters of the dude's last name so you pronounce them together as just part of a word. Same as SU (Su-27, Su-35 etc)  and MIG (MIG 21, Mi-8), TU (Tu-154 etc) are pronouced as parts of words (Sukhoi) and (MIkoyan and Gurevich), Tupolev.

MIlitary tech is one of few areas where the communists actually gave credit to the designer and creator, the military part of USSR worked just like it does in the west, several designers (Bureau's) competed with each other (very capitalist like) in order to be chosen to make Army/Airforce equipment. Some other areas that this is evident that an American gamer would know very well are AK-47 (Avtomat Kalashnikova 47), literally meaning Rifle of Kalashnikov deigned 1947. And PPsH-41, which is the World War 2 russian gun used in ton of games and movies and is probably second most polupar Russian gun. It has an iconic drum magazine on the bottom and wooden handle, but that also stands for  Pistolet-Pulemet Shpagina, which literally means Pistol-MachineGun by Shpagin (dude's name) designed in 1941.

Most Russian military equipment goes by numbers and abriviated initials of the creators... its the NATO naming that gives it elaborate names such as (KA-52's (Kamov 52) name Black Shark Helicopter), and Su-27's name Flanker, and Mig29's Fulcrum etc etc...

Heres more about Ilyushin, you can find info on all these on WIkipedia if you want more information... and as far as Sims go Giantbomb should do a quicklook of LOMAC (Lock On Modern Air Combat) it is considered to be the best Modern Day multirole fighter simulator by boht US and Russian (real jet pilots) and gamers/enthusiasts alike.. the game is kinda old, but for its time it looked amazing and still looks very good and with some texture packs etc you can make it look as good as a 2011 game . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzKFxsY-ykU  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lock_On:_Modern_Air_Combat

LOMAC forums both English and Russian are very active with professionals that can answer any possible question related to air combat both WW2 and Modern...

Open Joint Stock Company «ILYUSHIN Aviation Complex»   ( JSC IL ),   operating as   Ilyushin   (ILyushin) ( Russian :   Илью́шин ) or   Ilyushin Design Bureau , is a   Russian   design bureau   and   aircraft   manufacturer, founded by   Sergey Vladimirovich Ilyushin . Ilyushin was established under the   Soviet Union . Its operations began on January 13, 1933, by order of P. I. Baranov, People's Commissar of the Heavy Industry and the Head of the Main Department of Aviation Industry. In Soviet/Russian nomenclature, aircraft from Ilyushin are prefixed   Il . The head office of Ilyushin is located in   Moscow .

I actually let out a big "YEAH" and fist-pumped when they managed to get the bomber off the ground.

EDIT: Really bummed you couldn't get into an online game, that could have been hilarious.
