That we get for free yet. This is exactly the kind of feature they could charge for in the long run.

When i first got on this site i loved the quicklooks because i found that they had a semblance of what was going on in the game. Lately however, i've gotten bored of them and i can't find the reason why. I understand that it's funny to not know what you're doing but there's a point where it's too over the top. It would be so much better that they played a game for a while so they know what they're doing and what the game is.

The space is infinite. My interest in this game however... is not.

the battle system sorta reminds me of Ring of Red for the PS2. Anyone ever play that?

Looks really good, but I wish I had the patience for RPG's like I had years ago.  I may end up picking this up on a whim.

" I find this odd ass debate about reading the manual  just plain odd. The whole point of of a quick look is to show you, very quickly, what the game is like, not a developer walk-through. Frankly, I'm glad the crew did a quick look of Sega's recent RPG offerings. Because if left to Sega, none of these RPGs would have seen the light of day in North America because WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND RELEASES THEIR RPGS IN THE SAME MONTH LET ALONE WEEKS OF WITHIN FINAL FANTASY XIII? "
Don't tell the people who run the site and came up with the concept of what a quick look is, what a quick look is. I love long video content as oppossed to 2 minytes where you end up feeling like you learned nothing.

@UncleBenny:
You do realise that FFXIII is a PS3/360 game, and this is a DS game.
Why oh why would anyone publish an RPG on a totally different platform, in a totally different style to FFXIII around the same time?
Not everyone who plays RPGs likes FF games. Its a good time to grab those who don't.
Also its the end of the financial quarter.

on topic
It's an interesting game. I've gotten at least 5 hours into it..but i was hoping for a more linear and less open..space..approach. Eh you win some you lose some.

So don't pay for it when the time comes if you don't like it. Is that a difficult choice to make? The people running GB have to make ends meet like the rest of us (or maybe not like all of us who may just want to be a bunch of freeloaders).

Above all else, be glad you're currently receiving their insight and entertainment free of charge. I for one would not be opposed to paying for their content because I fully value the content that they put out, even on monetary terms.

OH GOD I JUST GAVE THEM IDEAS TO START CHARGING US MONEY WHAT HAVE I DONE

I don't necessarily agree with the criticism on QL but to say "DONT CRITICIZE FREE CONTENT" is dumb. Constructive criticism is what helps these guys get better at their craft. They have a comment section for a reason, I seriously doubt people on the internet hurt Jeff or anyone at giantbomb's feelings. They are big boys I am sure they can decipher good criticism from bad.

I don't know what everyone is whining about. Jeff and Ryan gave the game some exposure and they seemed to like it. The mechanics confused them and they didn't quite grasp all the subtleties, but we got an honest view of the game from two experienced reviewers. More importantly, they seemed to enjoy it despite their confusion, and that says a lot. Yes, they didn't understand exactly what was going on, but that's part of the fun of the quick look.

That, and listening to the screeching in the comments. That's always fun.

In any case, only a few posts actually dealt with finding out what exactly Jeff was doing wrong. Easily, the biggest problem was the crew's fatigue/morale. You see, on the left-side of the top screen, there is a meter that looks like a thermometer, the crew's fatigue. As you travel on your route through space, the fatigue meter increases, and it can be reset by stopping at a planet. When your crew is fatigued during battle, it slows the command gauge to a crawl. Therefore, rather than going from Toropets to Ropesk in one trip, Jeff should have went from Toropets to Bagut, stopped at Bagut, then go from Bagut to Ropesk.

Difficulty-wise, the fatigue meter is only an issue early in the game. As you progress, you get more crew members to put in Leadership and Management positions and ship modules that affect Livability, to reduce the speed of the fatigue meter's increase, allowing for longer non-stop journeys.

The cube at the beginning of the game reminds me of the box in "Hellraiser".

The story is pretty epic!  I found the combat to be a bit simple and repetitious, but most of these kind of games are that way so I was prepared.  Regardless, I played until the end which was long after I was already bored with the combat, because the story was really quite good.  I just plowed through the battles and in the end I felt the effort was well worth it.  You will learn to care about the main character and a few of your crew members and also care what happens to them, while many others NPCs are just generic "red-shirts" that don't really matter.  Bottom line:  The story is the strongest feature about the game, that is, if you can last long enough to make it to the end.  Very memorable and satisfying.
