What, then, would be the right way to play this? How is it meant to be played?

This game needs some Blood Diamond Pants for JimBo to look tacticool.

Oh BTW, the location is NOT China, the shop signs in the demo are in Thai language so obviously the location is taking place in Thailand.

007: Electric Boogaloo is my favorite Bond game.
I also like the part of this game where you shoot the guys with your stun gun, duck behind cover, they look around and scratch their butts, and then they go into a spasm as they hit the ground. It makes it very comical and entertaining.

Problem is not the detective mode, it's Jeff's constant use of it.  Like really you need  to press it every second?  Leave it off for a while man, damn that was annoying to watch.

They dont have to get shot per se. Most of the time they have 4 guys link arms and kneel down on a matress and then one lead is taped to one outside guys shoulder and the other is taped to the other outside guys arm and all 4 of them are shocked at the same time. Generally about 3 seconds.

It's not really the "Batman complex" though. For me it all started with the original Splinter Cell. That game did some (for the time) amazing stuff with lighting and shadows, but most of the time you wouldn't notice because you spent 95% of your time in the B/W night vision mode. Just like in Batman I'd switch it off at times just to enjoy the scenario, but it just made a lot more sense to leave it on for the gameplay.

Every time the switch to the Smartphone mode was made, it made me feel a little dizzy for a split second. However, it was worth it to see James Bond staring at his phone constantly.

I don't understand why he uses phone-vision so much in a game as linear as this. Do you really need to turn it on every time you jump a ledge to have it tell you to jump the next ledge? Seems extremely excessive.

I don't see why multiplayer can't be as disposable as the singleplayer. Not everything has to have the longevity of a Gears or CoD.

@AddyMac: I think the issue with disposable multiplayer is the wasted development effort. Man hours are spent making a multiplayer mode that is done better elsewhere and that nobody will play for long that could have been spent improving the singleplayer. That is the generic case, not necessarily true for this game (though it very well may be).

Hi I love you guys I've been around since the gamespot days but I could not even finish the QL, I can see us entering an era of gaming where I guess we need our hands to be held.
First I say this because gamers complained about getting lost and finding there way thorough levels I'm not saying it has to be like one of the classic Zelda's memorizing maps or making your own, but this is where it started and that's an adventure rpg.
Then game makers incorporated maps and nav systems justifiable in rpg's but not so much in an action game, but others made them as just an added feature on the game box.
Now it looks like where becoming dependent on them which is sad. I read and heard talks of Batman AA graphics not being appreciated because of the overuse of the Detective mode I've played thorough it twice and didn't feel it was totally necessary, I thought this was an age of a older mature gamer that doesn't need to be babied so don't give game makers a reason to.

Anyway
Peace

@DaZetheMaZe: I agree to an extent, Jeff seems to play on the path of least resistance now I'm defiantly not saying he's playing it wrong but it's an interesting argument of should the player be self discipled and not overuse the crutch like features or is it up to the developers to regulate those skills to make the game more of a challenge?

That, my friend, is an HTC smartphone and believe me, as an owner, it's battery life will not last near that long.   :)  I call this game bogus and deficient of realism!  I hope you know I was being facetious.  I don't care about realism.  Seriously though, that battery would only last him until lunch.

The cell phone abuse was horrid, had to stop watching halfway or I would've gouged my eyes out. Seriously, if the game is this linear and easy, I don't see why you need to constantly turn on the cell phone. It's not like you can get lost.

I'll bet that the game was designed for consoles and the PC version is a not-so-good port. That's the usual way Actizzard does things. So doing a QL of the console versions is the most sensible thing. Also, most people will be buying it for their consoles.

drozzy is actually one of the developers that worked on the PC port. He's very hurt that his work on the hi-res textures are going to waste. Please be considerate.

Wow, there's alot taken from Conviction. The blurry screen, the way Bond ducks behind cover and melee=auto aim takedown. Not that that's a bad thing, just really stood out to me

I agree with this for local multiplayer. Online multiplayer cannot be disposable, it can only die.  If you have to schedule a ranked online match by using a website, because there aren't enough people playing at any given time to pick up and play, that is a failed or forgotten product.

@Bearhardt: It defiantly is worth a rental.  I just played through the game.  Again all of Jeff's complaints about this game are not true.
You don't need to have the cell phone up at all if you don't want to.  You want to know where the people are in the room, or if there is someone watching the area where you are about to take down a guy then pull it up, it shows red dots, then put it down.  You don't even need it up to find the "collectables" an icon comes up in the bottom right of the scree when you enter an area that has something to "scan", so pull up the phone, turn the camera around till you see the blue icon walk to it and scan it.
I don't know why Jeff bothers reviewing games if he doesn't give it a fair shot.  Is this game AMAZING. Nope.
Is it good, yeap.
This game lets you really have the roll of Bond, easy quick head shots from cover.  Also the driving sequences are very well done, with the exception of just ONE area that the game throws impossible to tell environment sections at you that you really need to be a BOND to get through.  The 007 difficulty is extremely difficult as well.  Other than that play it enjoy it, and Jeff fucking play the game right and review it.  Don't bag on a game when you do stupid shit you don't have to do in it.
Oh and the multiplayer is very MEH.
