All quick looks are video features! As are the endurance runs.

Also, more like James Bond: Blood Phone, am I right?!

The game looks average. One thing with Batman was the game looked so good you felt bad being in detective mode so much. Here, not so much. And my understanding is if you want to find the collectibles to scan, you basically have to be in cell phone mode the entire time.

I'm just gonna come out and say it, Jeff is ruining his own enjoyment of the game by overusing that Detective Mode. If you don't like it, then don't use it all the fucking time! He couldn't even do platforming without it on. For Batman, because I didn't like that mode, I would turn it off when I was fighting. You have that control!

I understand why Jeff complains about these features like the cell phone in this or the detective vision in batman or how you can play through all of bio-shock using just the wrench & shock,  but I for one just don't play games with that Min-Max attitude like he does.      If something looks ugly I am gonna turn it off, or if something gets repetitive I will try to mix things up rather then only doing what ever the "best" or "easiest" thing is.      That being said I get it,  he plays a ton of games and has to give his opinions, because of that he plays efficiently and looks for exploits so naturally things like the cell phone stick out.  But it is rather silly to complain about it so much but then have it on all the time.

If he doesn't like the "cell phone" map guide greenish screen then why does he constantly have it up when he doesn't have to, and complain about it?
I thought the last Bond game with Daniel Craig was a great little game for what it was, I think it actually looked better as well.  I have this coming in today from Gamefly.  Find out soon!

Redesign Splinter Cell: Conviction. Put Daniel Craig in it. Put cars in it, and put the detective mode from Batman in it, and you get Blood Stone. Seems like a decent game though.

It's kind of ironic that we're in the HD generation and games are adding effects to mimic SD displays and resolutions.  So the next logical progression is for 3D games to add effects to mimic 2D right?

Do people actually play these games like Jeff does (ie constantly in detective mode)? In Batman I would just pop up detective mode for a sec, make a note of enemy placement, and go back to regular. Also, is there different difficulty settings because the AI looked a little dumb.

Use your bloody eyes and mess around some instead of opening your phone every 2 seconds.
I know its used to gain info and shit but hey, it gives you warnings when there's info to scan right? And only use it when you're stuck or when you took out goons for their weapons.

Bloody irritating.

Because using something that is frankly overpowered is something that is hard to not use, especially when it's a game that isn't very interesting and needs to be reviewed ASAP.  When you play a lot of games you tend to find the optimum way of doing it, even if it cheapens the experience.  It sucks, but playing games for a living isn't conducive to enjoying every game fully sometimes.

Jeff has always said he doesn't have the patience for games that ask you to go slow, and he usually tries to plow through as much as he can, being on a deadline just makes it worse.  This is partly why I dislike reviews of games around this time of year, because dudes are playing the shit out of games and are rushing through them to get a review out the door so they can move on the next one.  I know they try to get the full experience and do a proper review in the time they have, but I'm sure they would admit if they reviewed some of these games a month or two earlier when it wasn't the silly season they might be a little more thorough about it.  Not much can be done about it, especially when it's just 3 dudes reviewing all the games, they even had to call Alex out of retirement temporarily to help.

The problem with games that have 'detective modes' like these is that you have to choose one or the other: better gameplay, or better atmosphere.   There's nothing wrong with a player deciding on better gameplay (which involves playing with the cellphone out constantly for all the features), but there's certainly something wrong with the game design for asking you to sacrifice one or the other main points of playing a videogame.

Looks ok, i developed a happy use of batman's detective mode thing, flicking it on when it would tell me something i need to know, leaving it off till i need it again, i might try and get this at a lower price.... i'm a sucker for bond style takedowns.

Seems like Jeff's preferred way of playing a game is to find the cheapest, most exploitative methods and just stick with those ad infinitum.  Kinda boring.  Also, why oh why did a QL about a game from a dev most known for driving games not include any of the CAR SEQUENCES!?

I completely disagree.   Where does it say you have to choose ONE?   It's a freaking toggle for a reason, you are meant to switch between them.

The textures in this look really effed up. On top of that, watching someone rely on a mechanic that seems built from the ground up to NOT be used all the time (Plus the level designs seemed to be well thought out, meaning using the phone will tell you next to new info you didn't know) is damn annoying.

My whole problem though is that it's gotten to a point where his "efficiency" methods are failing so hard that they defeat the purpose in the first place. Like at the end of the singleplayer part of this quick look, where he's in the courtyard getting shot at by 4 guys, he's standing out of cover alternating between having his cell phone out and trying to get "pop into aiming lock on headshots" with the pistol that he's still missing more often than not. Then he calls it "quick look-itis" because he's trying to push on through the game. Guess what? If he had not looked at his phone once in that section and just played it like a "COVER BASED SHOOTER" with his goddamn submachine gun out, he probably would have gotten through it three times as fast and not died once... pushing through the game faster. It's infuriating. Also when he was running on the rooftop, if he hadn't pulled his phone out to make a point that detective mode is poor game design, and just pressed 'A' to jump without needing a waypoint every five feet, he would have taken half the time.

Was his reasoning for min-maxing Bioshock with electrobolt and the wrench or Splinter Cell with manual pistol headshots to "get it done faster for review"? Because I would be willing to bet that I finished both those games plus or minus 45 minutes to an hour the same playtime as him, but I actually ended up trying out most of the weapons and tried to create badass combat scenarios with the plasmids and the hand to hand + mark and execute loop instead of trying to smurf the game in the least fun way possible.
