Oh my goodness stop making Diablo comparisons. This game isn't like Diablo at all.

Say it is a Fallout meets Baulder's Gate or something......anything, just not Diablo. God as I'm typing this Patrick just said it resembles Diablo again....HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED DIABLO?!?! Borderlands??? This game in no way, shape, or form resembles Borderlands or Diablo.

This game looks OK. Just OK. a QL that wasn't negative is always good to watch. Though of course this is a foreign indie-ish type of game, so naturally you guys are going to be positive about it.

Patrick - "...it is still a Borderlands-esque with a mad max visage, but at the end of the day it is a sword and magic game goosed up into something a little bit different..."

How did you ever end up a video-game journalist with sentences like these. I suppose if people didn't start playing video-games till 2009.

You're being a bit dickish about it, but I agree. Although what wound me up most was the talk of random encounters being JRPG-like. Somebody never played Fallout.

Anyway, this game looks sick! Anyone know if the Collector's Edition is worth the extra £4?

Not every journalist has played every single game nor do they know every single game. Patrick may know about Baldur's Gate and all those older games in name, but he may not have played and experienced them. It's about point of reference, because I have not played Baldur's Gate nor did I play the older Fallout games so I too would've have made a couple of the same references that Patrick and even Vinny made.

And it does kind of remind me of Borderlands.

I like the game so far, and I'm really excited to see what they do with it. Great Quick Look.

Seriously has Kelepk played baldur's gate? Dragon age 1? Icewind Dale? Neverwinter Nights?

All top down view party based rpg games that feature.... random encounters on the world map. Bioware has done this in their games for decades in other words.

Based on this quick look, I'd say no, he hasn't played those games. Not everyone has played every game you have. So stop getting bent out of shape he didn't mention them.

There are so many more games that do this as well. Many of the old gold box series of DND games did this too. A crazy amount of games did it. I don't really care if Patrick didn't know that. One of Jeff's favorite games of all time did it as well. Just adding to the knowledge! ;)

Man, I love the Swedish language-humor in this, but I wouldn't know how to even begin to explain it to a non-Swedish person.

An engaging or interesting music and sound style emotionally connects with people. Even if this game isn't good the music alone will make it a better experience. COD with Ninja Gaiden 1/2 (NES) or Contra 1 music would be a visceral experience like a Doom 1. We communicate first and foremost with sounds, then visual queues. Beside Ubisoft most AAA developers don't seem to get that, thank god for indie talent.

The random encounters in the overworld reminded me of Arcanum: Of steamwork and Magick Obscura

I picked up this game and I will say it's very much worth checking out. It very much is like Baldur's Gate, old Fallout, Diablo, and probably a few others i'm leaving out. Arpg/Rts. I figure it contains elements from so many games I love, plus the fact that it's on that Minecraft style of, it's cheaper the less finished it is, that I had better pick it up. $15 from Steam, but you can get the collector's edition from the creator's webstore for $16, which includes an endgame DLC character, plus the soundtrack, which makes it very much worth it. The soundtrack is great, and i could see myself listening to it at a later date.

Definitely a game to not miss, nor wait too long on, and have the price raise.

1- This game looks really cool, and I'm buying it.

2- People should stop fucking hating on Patrick. He easily has the most well rounded taste in games out of any of the GB crew, he is an absolutely fantastic writer (especially compared to Alex who has been getting all sorts of work on the site recently), he totally has his moments when he is genuinely funny (obviously not as much as Ryan, Jeff, Or Vinny), and having met him at PAX I can say that he is a super friendly and down to earth dude. I consider him an essential member of the bombcast at this point and wish people would stop hating so hard. Sure he isn't perfect, but Jeff is a total stubborn ass hole about all sorts of shit and we still love him!

I like Patrick's commentary on here. He asked good questions and had good observations.

Most of the time, these Quick Looks stop me from getting a game, or at least from paying full price. But every once in a while, they get me to buy a game that wasn't even on my radar. This is one of those times.

Their comparisons are fine. The art style is similar to Borderlands. The gameplay may be more similar to Fallout than Diablo but they're both isometric RPGs. It's not nearly as big a deal as you make it out to be and yelling about how your comparisons are better than theirs is just annoying. Your need for them to compare it to older games is just ridiculous.

Also, I think the positive quick look came more from the game being charming and fun than the things you mentioned and it's not like they gushed or anything. The shot at Patrick was just lame and makes you seem like a cranky old guy who's envious of Patrick's position.

I love the world map music, it really reminds me of the music in Bröderna Lejonhjärta.
