Lot of negative comments here, can't say I'd agree. Looks like "no more heroes" with an interesting lead and direction. I'll definitely play through it. I just can't understand how they praise "vanquish" but seem disinterested in this.

I haven't watched the quicklook yet, but Vanquish has the tightest and most satisfying pure gameplay experience of any action game this generation...and since this is a Suda 51 game I'm willing to bet that its gameplay mechanics feel like an afterthought.

It seems like this is a case of the wrong people on the QL making the game look bad. I played it a bit while I was at PAX East and it seemed a lot more fun then what is shown here. The Ryan/Patrick combination just made it really boring. I would have much rather preferred to hear Jeff's take on the sexual content, considering his previous experiences in QLs and the epic Creeper Cam section of the Happy Hour.

This is exactly what I expected this to be. A interesting game that fails to fully deliver on its gameplay yet provides some funny jokes and gags throughout. In short, a Suda51 game. I'll definitely give it a rental.

Good look? Sorry but visually it looks like ass. The combat looks stiff as hell and unimaginative. Level design boring and repetative, tiny arenas are a relic for a reason, but above all it seems real cheap. Humor is subjective but seems hit and miss. Nothing in this seems to appeal. Then again I saw no point in those earlier games with Sudas name either, that some liked, and this looks way worse.

Not my cup of tea.

Time to go get some crumpets.

Ryan did a fine job of showing off the game but didn't seem to really get the combat. Rather than taking on the zombies individually, you're meant to herd them together while softening them up with the pom-pom attacks and then group-kill them for your Sparkle Hunting rewards. It's much quicker and gives you a combat goal. Unlocking the combos helps too.

@jakkblades: You can buy other costumes in the "Chop Shop" and then there are all the different ones you got through preorder/retailer bonuses... The costumes can be changed between levels on the map by entering Juliet's house.

Hmmm... I'd still like to play this, but I'm not as immediately in as I was with Shadows of the Damned. The mechanics of actually playing that game were solid and enjoyable, this seems a lot simpler and perhaps not quite so satisfying. I do love Suda's weirdness, but I've just started playing Alice: Madness Returns (which cost about £3) so that will satisfy my crazy quota for a little while at least.

Like most of Suda's games, I'll probably come back to it later, maybe when the price drops a bit. Looks like some cool ideas.

Reminds me so much of Shadow of the Damned for obvious reasons. That game had it's problems but it's charm and Suda 51 spark was enough for me so I might have to check this out at one point.

Holy shit new quick look and its for Lollipop Chainsaw! Its like a gift from god! I hate it that gamer's aren't getting a lot of the satire behind this game and are only taking it for face value. I hate that a lot of people (including people in and out side of the gaming community) are getting offended by this game. "Oh god the main character is a skimpy blond! Now all people will think gamer's are chauvinistic!" Before worrying about whats shown in games, or any other type of media for that mater, maybe we should talk to all those skimpy ass women that exist EVERY WHERE! Reality bites, why try and hide things that are on our mind? Sure not every woman is a dumb blond, any really human being knows that, but come on, they are out there. And so what that woman in video games aren't represented "fairly" or realistically. What about men? Not every man looks like Nathan Drake. Whatever, I don't care about any of that politically correct bull shit just because something hurts a persons feelings or disturbs them because it shows them shit they would rather not think about. People are also afraid of what the public might think about video games as a media and that I say, ignore those fucks. If they don't like it they can go look somewhere ells. (sigh) Ranting aside I just would rather have people look at this game and see the irony of it and why its a video game... I could go on forever but I'd rather not. So many details I could go in to about the self referencing humor and the satire behind this game but I wont because I'm lazy.

I totally get that the game isn't very fun, no farther than Ryan had gotten in the quicklook, but I hope you guys realize how fucking stupid and assholish you look when you talk about how bad a game is when you've barely put a couple of hours into it. I'm not saying it's right or wrong that the game isn't very fun for the first few hours. I am saying, though, that making sweeping generalizations like "They just don't stick the landing" when you don't even know how to work the fucking lock-on button makes you look like a fucking idiot.

Yeah, but the game part still looks like shit.

Sorry, that's just me, but everything about this game is very, very off-putting to me. The music is fine but it gets repetitive, except for Mickey, a song whose inclusion is almost enough to make me despise anything with all my being. Besides that, though, the combat and level design look boring and tedious, Juliet seems very annoying, the graphics are mostly bland, and I can't see any redeeming factors.

If I want to see a story about a Japanese high school zombie infestation with lots of fanservice, I'll just watch High School of the Dead.

Anyone else noticing that Grasshopper/Suda games are getting more playable over time? After playing Killer 7, No More Heroes, and Shadows of the Damned - it feels like this is a natural evolution of those combat systems.

If you like SUDA games, get this. It's maybe the best one yet.

The combat is actually pretty great. You have to be very careful, dodge, and stun. Ryan kept getting knocked down because he was mostly mashing chainsaw attacks (which have a long animation) and not dodging or stunning enough. There wasn't even one sparkle hunt in this video that came from fighting a group of enemies, and really, that's what you should be trying to do all the time.

"The game doesn't go far enough." Meanwhile, ridiculous shit is happening.

The game does have problems. I'm not some SUDA apologist. The camera sucks often, the music is mostly great but the repetitive tunes (Mickey, Lollipop) will grind on your nerves eventually, and when knocked down (which happens very often) you have to mash a button to get back up, and when you start to slip and do poorly the game can get frustrating. I just thought that the Ryan and Patrick were being overly negative, and were talking down the parts of the game that I actually thought were pretty awesome.

I dunno... I'm glad I saw the quick look, because I am pretty sure I'm gonna skip this one.

I play Grasshopper games for their oddball characters and crazy aesthetics, not for their tight game mechanics. The whole feel of this game just doesn't do it for me.

I find it baffling how they can get mad at this game for its sensibilities (and accuse it of sexism) but honestly believe Saints Row The Third to be acceptable. Saints Row has a way shittier opinion on women than this game. Especially since Ryan and Patrick were the chief architects of "how dare anyone be embarrassed by Saints Row!" and then they're so immediately ready to call this game embarrassing for the entire medium.

Juliet is a satirical character, a comedic take on ditzy high school girls ("OMG! Zero calories means I won't be as gross and fat as I am now!"). Meanwhile Saints Row is fixated on strippers and whores, you literally drive hookers around while they work, every female character is depicted as sexually promiscuous, but oh no Lollipop Chainsaw should tone it down. Man.

Is it because no one wants to dress up like Shaundi? Compare Shaundi and Juliet. Both are completely vapid and dressed provocatively, but Juliet plays it for laughs, while Shaundi is a po-faced shrew for that entire game. That's better?

100% this. And I enjoyed Saints Row. I'll just put a quote here from Tycho (of Penny-Arcade) about the whole Hitman sexy-nun-assassins trailer thing:

"But being mad at it is apparently a thing, a compulsory thing. Except I don’t do compulsory, and I also don’t do infantilizing chivalry. So I don’t do well at these kinds of parties."

The world was just a different place back then. They didn't know any better. It was just the way society was.

Now days we know better thanks to the lessons learned from losing our shit at Tomb Raider and sexy nun killings.

What is the magic ratio of boredom vs hours "trying" to like a game then? I myself won't ever put "a couple of hours" in to a game just to see if it is fun later on, a example of this is Dragon Age 2, I gave it 1 hour and then never went back.

Games have to sell themselves sooner rather than later. With that said I like games where the build up is slow, for instance Twilight Princess. There has to be at least some hooks to get your attention, Twilight Princess has the story elements and a intriguing world. Lollipop chainsaw doesn't really seem to have any other hooks than some funny dialogue at times.

I am not dissing the game totally, I am just trying to explain my point of view and also to understand the GB crew's point of view.

I got my copy for free and I'm having a great time playing the game, my only advice is rent it. This game isn't for everyone, I'm not big on button masher games but this one I have to say ...honestly, I'm having fun! Form your own opinions...don't just watch someone else play and say "It's not for me!".
