What the hell!!! I was really hoping last light would get jeff and vinny and brad and ryan... they are always the best when it is all 4 of em.

It's not the full implementation. There is the base PhysX middleware (much like Havok), then there are the enhanced effects which use the CUDA api on Nvidia hardware to perform GPU accelerated functions (cloth simulation, interactive volumetric fog etc).

Adding "The" in front of Ukraine rolls off the anglophone tongue that much easier as well.

Looks like something I would definitely grab in a bundle on steam. Waiting on 2033/Last Light christmas bundle :P

Protip to Patrick: transcoding is the process of encoding a file from one media storage format to another (i.e. wave file to mp3). Slowing down audio is time-shifting.

Absolutely serious. Vinny and Drew (and Dave) have played the hell out of PC games from Europe like STALKER, Witcher and Metro so they actually a good reference point for what games of that ilk are like. Not interested in the slightest what Patrick thinks, since he barely plays any of those PC games.

Last Light looks a lot nicer than 2033. But those spiders... aahh, I can't stand them. This would be classified as horror for myself.

Thumbs up for playing in Russian w/ subs. I love doing that with Euro developed titles like Metro. It was the best way of fixing Heavy Rain's poor VO too (played it in French w/ subs).

That plane scene was very affective.

In the first game the hold out missions were bad, the stealth mission was terrible but it was the escort mission with those stupid radioactive blobs that made me put the game down and not finish it. I LOVED the atmosphere, I wanted really bad to finish the story, but after failing the mission two dozen times because the AI pathing was just so dumb I finally just gave up.

Completely crappy Ranger mode is pre-order DLC. It's the way I played 2033 and probably the only way I could.

Just being anal passive-oppressive and exhibiting my condition, or maybe instead I I know this game has more interest.

@kkotd: I am Russian and it doesn't sound that great as well but English speakers would never notice, it is probably recommended to play in Russian if you don't mind subtitles.

Ugh at the very end when he put the helmet directly through his face despite it obviously having straps in the back. You can have all the beautiful graphics in the world, but keeping stuff like that around is even worse in my opinion.

Loved the first game even though the shooting was a little bit off. Russian VO is the only way, just as italian in Assassins Creed 2/Brotherhood =)

Just out of curiosity, even if he was playing this on a console, what would it matter? You talk as if there is something very wrong with that. I'm curious to hear if there is any backbone to that argument other than 'Console sucks!'.

Looks gorgeous so definitely buying this on Steam by at least this weekend. Also that cockpit flashback was pretty rad.

Really. I mean, I'm a PC gamer as well, but it's not as if Metro is a competitive RTS, twitch multiplayer shooter, CRPG, or any of the other genres that require the use of keyboard and mouse to enjoy.

You don't need to waste bullets on the spiders at all, they will die from pointing your light at them.

Same reason everyone is getting so excited that you can play with Russian VO.

When in Max Payne 3 half the characters spoke Portuguese and it wasn't subtitled no one seemed to care much. Personally I find it annoying because I want to know what everyone is saying.

That's different. You played as Max Payne who couldn't understand Portuguese mostly. For obvious story purposes, you aren't suppose to know what they are talking about.

Yes exactly. It was pretty clever and deliberate - something not a lot of games do if any at all. I just find it so strange that everyone is all "wow props for playing the game in Russian with subtitles!" Like yah, props on missing out on a ton of ambient dialog that fills in the plot in a heavily plot driven single player game. It's like were bridging some sort of cultural gap through this heroic feat of turning on subtitles. Someone should have let 4A Games know about this multi-cultural movement so they wouldn't have wasted tons of money for the english VO. I know I sound pretty harsh and getting up in arms about a really silly thing but the whole idea of playing a game in Russian because it's set in Russia seems like such a complete non issue that it really rubs me the wrong way when a lot of people are making it a big deal out of it.

Online MMO might actually work for this one. Metro LL looks good, WAY better than 2033 (which wasn't too shabby either.) east european / russian games on teh up and up! Sadly, no Dave at the moment... :((

@humanity: Well, I played the first one in Russian too though. Then again, not a single game I ever played was in my own language, so I'm kind of with you that it's not really a big deal to do so. It just makes sense is all.

How horror is the first game in the scale from, say Bioshock (not very scary) to Amnesia (never gonna play that, so help me god).?

@dr_mantas: There are some sections of the game that are certainly heart pounding, but the fear is more atmospheric in nature. I'd say it's closer to, say, F.E.A.R. than Amnesia, so whilst still scary, you can generally still kill what's coming at you, so it's more about the tension and atmosphere creating suspense than the creatures themselves. Unlike Amnesia, you can get out of the situations you find yourself in by holding down the shoot button, so it's easier to push on than in something where your interactions are limited to 'run away'. Whilst BioShock did have a lot of atmosphere, the atmosphere in Metro 2033 is at the same time melancholic, un-hopeful, depressing, enthralling, exhilarating and tense. It's not exactly a happy game, but the atmosphere it immerses the player in is something that few games pull off to the same degree, so if you can handle the odd jump scare or two, then I'd definitely recommend it.

So, to sum it up in a sentence: More scary than BioShock, about as scary as F.E.A.R., less scary than Amnesia.
