That's because they were still downloading the game while playing, they should have downloaded it fully before doing the QL wouldn't have had the frame rate problems

Sure, but to not expect there to be slow loading times, missing content, or a hitching frame rate because there is processing power being devoted to downloading and installing the game is just plain dumb. Jeff complains about all of these things in this, which wrongly paints the game in a negative light. As far as I understand it, QLs are supposed to show off a full game, not some technology offered by the new consoles. I love most of the stuff the GB guys do, Jeff especially, but the whole thing comes across as lazy.

Man, I'm not usually one to complain about overlong quicklooks, because, honestly, I can stop watching halfway through on my own volition, but you'd think they'd at least try a different mode or look at a single other part of the game. This whole QL just felt like deja vu, right down to them making the same jokes occasionally.

Then again, I know they're not ACTUALLY interested in the game. Maybe they should have spent the time on games they *do* care about rather than recording two for one they don't, but *shrug* ah well.

And yeah, expecting the mechanical drives in the new consoles to allow a good play-experience mid download is kinda silly. I know it was part of the marketing of these consoles, but they've been fed plenty of PR bullshit that they've happily shruged off, so it's weird they seem to have believed in that bit of it so readily when the problems it presents are so obvious.

From what I understand, the loading times are staggeringly lengthy, with or without the game being installed fully. I imagine there's some reduction, but I believe it's pretty negligible.

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with the guys making a quick look before the installation is finished. If that's touted as one of the bigger new features of a console still in its infancy, I'd say it's fair-game to put it through it's paces and see what it can do.

...Or can't do, as the case may be.

Maybe, but it should be pretty obvious that you're going to have a sub-optimal time with a game that is in the process of installing. Also, Jeff doesn't even address it as a byproduct of the concurrent installation, he just says that the game has a bad frame rate, which I would argue is not fair criticism.

Only 5 mins in to this video and already Jeff and Vinny are playing off each other so well. It's pretty damn funny/entertaining.

Oh - and I thought the production values on that intro were pretty damn good actually.

game was not done installing. sometimes I wish it would make you wait until it was done.

The Naked Gun and Major League reference is awesome. Jeff complaining about the frame rate and loading times while the game hasn't finished installing is an unfair criticism. Its nice that for once Vinny and Jeff did not pick the A's or the Mets. Maybe one day in the future a bench clearing brawl will be animated.

I'm assuming the reason neither of them noticed that the Giants stadium is full of Boston fans is color blindness? Or maybe I just missed them going "haha what is this"

It's these QL's and QL's alone that serve as my occasional reminder that no, I still really can's stand watching, or playing, baseball.

@lamp: They did mention at one point that they thought it was funny that they were in SF but it was full of Boston fans as Boston was picked as the home team.

As for the QL in general: whatever about the "not waiting for the install to complete before recording" issue, the general not-carishness is another. I'd rather no sports Quick Looks at all over just played for laughs and LOL SPORTS Quick Looks like this. Hoping that whatever new editor they get in might just be a sports fan on the side, and might pair off with @dannyodwyer to give us a "serious business" sports Quick Look every now and again.

And a Sensible Soccer Bombastica. Because why the hell not, right?

The reason they refer to player as number 38 is that specific player hadn't played in a couple of years and his name isn't that commo plus if I remember right he was a late signing too. Therefore, they did not do a go for his name

For the record, MLB 14 The Show completed its system-level install process. The bar was fully across the icon and the game was bootable and all that. The second, stealthy install that it triggered on launch was actually a surprise.
