Has anybody considered that the reason Patrick is in so many Quick Looks like this are because he's been the one finding these games to show off? Seems to me that with no Patrick, these games wouldn't be seen at all on here.

So if you want others to head Quick Looks, somehow get them to go diving into the indie/obscure game market more.

This looks sweet! I was skeptical about the layers at first, since I wasn't able to tell them apart very easily. There's barely any color seperation between the middle and foreground, if any at all, which threw me off... Until I realized that this game uses "bit mixing", as pixel artists tend to call it, in an intentional and competent fashion!

Bit mixing, when talking about art, is when "pixels" of different sizes exist in the same picture, usually done by mistake by amateur pixel pushers. It tends to happen when someone downloads a sprite sheet that's already doublesized and starts drawing on it with a 1px brush, creating pixels of two different sizes within the same sprite. Obviously a technically impossibility as well as an unnecessary and ugly effect.

But in this game, each layer's assets are doublesized compared to the one before, pixels and all. That makes it easy to tell what's where just by looking at the smallest noticable element of each sprite or tile, if the 3D and color seperation isn't enough. Clever stuff!

Looks really enjoyable. Thanks Patrick for spotlighting another game I probably would have missed.

Patrick does not strike me as the kinda guy who would care about football in any way, shape, or form. Interesting.

$8.99? I dread to think what that will translate to in the UK. There's quite a few cool looking games on the E-Shop but the prices are far too high. The games can't compete with similar priced titles on say XBLA or Steam.

Waited patiently for this title to release on E-Shop. Bought it immediately, and absolutely love it. It's a challenging little sucker if your going for 100% completion on every level.

You seem to be implying I'm one of the people whining about Klepek in the comments of every quick look.

I'm not for or against him at this point. If he continues to be the main GB duder in video content for the next few months I'll probably be against him and join the rebel alliance in their "assault"(lol..) on Patrick!

I agree with Brad's sentiment that there should be a way for them to show us the 3D effects in 3DS games. Maybe they could team up with nintendo and have the 3DS quick looks appear on the eshop to download. Alternatively there could be a 3D setting on the videos for Giant Bomb users who browse the site with their 3DS.

Who knows, hopefully the figure out something.

uh seriously? He mentions it in almost every single thing he does on the site, I'm not even joking. It's the issue I personally have with Patrick because it's just getting ridiculous now. (Also he seems to wear that bears bears bears tshirt every chance he can)

Me too, but in my case I need to re-solder the cord into the AC adapter that plugs into the controller.

VB Wario Land is still one of my top Mario games. Watching this QL almost made me think I was watching a clone game.

I don't know what everyone's issue is with Patrick. I think he fits right in with the crew. Has a varied taste in games which is nice, and he's been fairly entertaining overall. I don't really see where the problem is, let alone one large enough to justify whining about it in the comments.

This game looks like a ton of fun. E-Shop really stepping up its game.

Bought this day 1 and I'm really disappointed. Sluggish controls and not much challenge. I was expecting something a little closer to Mega Man.

Do the gun sounds in this game remind anyone else of the Blaster Master (NES) gun sounds. I dunno why but that's what I picture when I see the gun shot in this game

Also, the diamonds you collect in this game are straight out of Gianna Sisters. Damn I'm old...

3 layers is a staggering number of layers.

The game looks ridiculously good.

It's a shame that Patrick didn't get into one V-Land level. Yes, the G-Land levels are homages to the original, puke green Game Boy. More importantly though, the V-land levels are homages to Virtual Boy games. Heck, the multi-plane gimmick is ripped wholesale from Wario Land VB.

This game is awesome, but some of these levels are cheap as shit. Especially the G-Land and V-Land levels. If only Renegade Kids refined the water pack mechanic a bit; as soon as you activate it, the whole bar is gonna empty whether you shut it off again or not. Which means you can't, say, jump off a cliff, hover, turn it off to drop down a bit, than hover again with whatever is left in the tank. It also sucks that powerups don't stack - there are only 3 of them. You should be able to use the powershot, longer hover and super jump at the same time instead of having to switch between them. Those two nagging issues definitely hurt the fun factor in the later levels of the game. But generally, this is excellent stuff.

Good Quick Look. Btw Patrick, THIS is how the game looked two years ago. RK was trying to make a Mario Sunshine-esque 3D Platformer for DSiware:

Personally, I don't like Patrick's articles, don't like his Quick Looks, don't like his Endurance Runs. Definitely my personal opinion, but there sure is a lot of agreement on this site it seems. At least a pretty significant portion of the site dislikes the guy and actively avoids content in which he appears. It's a shame, but the truth. Probably a nice guy, just not a good writer(Tons of misspellings, grammar mistakes, incorrect/biased information), a down right awful interviewer(The Nolan North debacle), among other things. Funny thing is I never did mind him before he joined Giant Bomb. I think it's just Patrick overload, less is more.

eShop Quick Looks always make me wish for more NDX.

Just bought this on another solid QL on a 3DS e-shop title. Vvvvvv, Mighty Switch Force and Pushmo are the other notable entries in the catalogue. Keep it up Nintendo.

RE: the eShop, there are more and more reasons I'm interested in a 3DS, but having 2 portables plus my phone just seems weird. Maybe when the next Layton comes out?
