Quick Look: NeverDead

Besides the head-only segments, this game isn't as atrocious as Alex would make it out to believe. It's like a bad B movie.

Y'know what, I kinda have some fondness for NeverDead. As soon as I got the combat down (slash less, roll a lot and ignore guns) and got the right set of upgrades I even had some fun. It's a weird thing that has heart, even if it misses more than it hits and the final two bosses are the worst part of any game released last year.

Same here played it and complete it on easy last year.It has some nice quirks.It's one of those games that if it didnt had combat (or the game had less game) it would be much more better.

Story is on par with a short anime movie, Little bit of story to care but not that much. that last twist of story for the final boss is WTF?!

Also yeh the last 2 bosses AND that final area are bad!!! Like cursing bad! I only finished those to hear fucking megadeath!

Edit: Remembering what yahtzee said for his review. This game tries to be devil may cry and resident evil and not sure what to do. The start screen does resident evil voice too (Brad missed that!)

I was watching the B roll for the goty stuff right before this and I forgot for the first few minutes that this wasn't B roll. Couldn't figure out why they didn't restart after Brad's pun, heh.

I was about to turn this off, then somewhere around the 18 minute mark, things good really interesting. Also, that guitar riff!

I checked out half-way through.

Also this game is horrific. Played through to completion last year and they remove any semblance of immortality by introducing a tiny enemy that sucks your head up and if you fail a QTE it's a game over.

edit: oh wait they're actually in there, I couldn't even bring myself to watch that much.

Some ok ideas that get old real fast, But thanks guys for getting to this.

If this first week is any indication, 2013 is going to be a fantastic year for Giant Bomb.

This game always looked terrible to me, but after this I'm glad I stayed away from it as it seems to be a checklist of how not to make a game. Let's just take a quick tally of everything wrong here:

1) Constantly take away the player's ability to effectively attack

2) Make the player completely invincible for over thirty minutes of gameplay only to suddenly introduce a potential instant-death gimmick

3) Lazy writing and dialogue which occurs far too often (which would be bad on its own even if they didn't have all of 3-5 lines repeated ad nauseum)

4) An AI-controlled partner whom the player needs to constantly watch over. It didn't happen here, but it seems likely that it is possible for her to die and create a Game Over (can anyone confirm/deny this?)

5) 'Puzzles' which already feel tedious by the end of the first area

6) The introduction of a new weapon (submachine gun) followed immediately by an arena-style fight mainly consisting of enemies which are highly resistant to said weapon

7) Bland and repetitive environments where it is easy to get turned around or lose sight of where to go next

8) The reliance upon something similar to regenerating health as an excuse for poor level and enemy design where it is just about impossible to dodge everything (let alone see everything attacking the player)

9) The use of a gimmick (dismemberment/immortality) for the sake of it rather than for an enjoyable experience (i.e. all innovation with absolutely no polish, though even the combat is pretty run of the mill looking so even the innovation part falls flat)

10) That terrible, terrible shade of yellow as the 'thematic color' of the game

At least the soundtrack seems decent.

Ohhhh right. Fuck this game.

After having watched this I don't want to see this game ever again.

Now get the other forgotten QLs of Giant Bomb past out of the way while your at it. Orcs Must Die 2 and Tactics Ogre go!

I find when Brad does a quick look he spends too much time hunting for collectibles - do that shit on your time Brad, not on your subscribers.
