He may just take some time for the general population to get used to. I don't dislike him, but some of his antics really bother me.

Holy shit, as someone who loved this game as a kid, watching this is kind of excruciating. Dan has apparently forgotten how any of the mechanics work, even though the game keeps spelling them out.

I mean, how many people are still out there thinking that, like Limbo was some clever twist when it was just... well, this. With most of the mechanics stripped out. And hey, I'm not deluded, this game is basically Flashback on PSOne. Not saying this isn't a genre. Just that between this genre being a thing and this genre becoming popular again, apparently it was mind-wiped from every videogame player ever.

Either way, a gorgeous, great game. It was then, and it really holds up. If anything, I would encourage people playing this to go fish out the original (I think it's in GOG) and see how much that game is still totally playable.

Oh, also, this is only 21€ in Europe. That's neat. Proper exchange rates for a change.

Never played the original but from what i've seen this is a big upgrade in many ways. May pick this up for wii u sometime in the future.

This looks fucking spectacular for a remake, day 1 when it comes to Steam.

The real question that matters is which game has a better farting mechanic: Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Fable or South Park: The Stick of Truth?

I'm going to go with South Park, but only because your farts blow shit up.

You can possess your farts and use them to blow up dudes in Abes Exoddus.

This looks pretty fun, I gotta say. Never actually played the original, but I remember seeing screenshots, etc. so I can tell that this remake is a pretty significant overhaul.

30 dollars might be a little steep for me, though. Plus it's only on PS4 at the moment, so I'll have to wait either way.

I think it's easy to lose perspective on how games actually looked, versus how we remember them looking -- I do this constantly. So when determining whether this game is worth $30 for you, might I recommend taking a second to compare and contrast it with the original here. (Gameplay starts at 4:03).

no kidding man he is such a breath of fresh air im really glad he is part of the team. I am still sad Vinny is over in GBeast but Dan is most certainly a worthy consolation prize.

Agreed, they did a ton of work on this game. Not just visually. They even adjusted the design by changing it to an active camera, and made it way more accessible with the autosave.

It's absolutely been worth what I paid for it. This isn't a compact Gone Home style game. This is a full-fledged, lengthy adventure with great gameplay, replayability, wonderful art and sound, plus a ton of heart.

Just Add Water did so much work, it's astoundingly beautiful and a lot of the gameplay enhancements are very nice. It's easily worth 30 bucks if you like the game. Man, it's kind of sad how we have started to devalue games with the whole "indie" thing.

I watched a friend of mine play through all of the first two oddworld games. They get hard.

I watched this quick look to find out what this was and I'm still pretty confused. It's just a remake of Oddyssee, right? That's what I got from all of this. From the title, I would've thought it included Exodus, as well.

Dan Ryckert knows of DKC's rule of thumb that a banana will never lead you wrong. Man. I'm getting pretty hype about him. Giant Bomb has always had a blind spot when it came to Old Rare. Seems like Dan has that shit covered. Woo.

Loved the original, loving this. Would prefer D-pad controls though. This new analogue configuration messes things up for me all too often.

The heresy being uttered about the original Prince of Persia hurt my soul! That is till one of the best and most influential game ever made. The story of how they recovered the original Apple II source code is pretty need. And now people going though this source is also fascinating to read.

I also loved the original Abe Oddysee, that game had so much hart. This remake looks really good, with crossbuy 30 bucks doesn't seem that bad to me.

I need to play this. But I have 360 psp and 3ds. Is this a next gen system seller? Oh god...

I think Jeff and Dan do a disservice to this game, it's a full and faithful recreation of the original in a totally new engine, not just a spit and polish job on the PSone classic.

It's fair enough that if you didn't like the originals then you probably won't like this, but still, Jeff makes it out to be the worst thing he's ever seen, which seems unfair to me. Why do the quicklook if you hate the game in the first place and totally refuse to change your opinion?

Vinny and Alex should have quicklooked this, they'd have taken a more objective approach.

Despite being almost the exact same game, I do remember liking Exoddus more. I couldn't tell you why though. Maybe it was that Exoddus had quick saving unlike the original.

I want an ER of Oddworld, Dan playing. Very entertaining.

I remember finding this game inpenetrably hard as a kid. I also had an uncle who loved these games and Tomb Raider for the puzzles and saved all the Mudokons and unlocked Shrykull, which I guess is some sort of Mudokon thunder god. You go around electrocuting people? I have no idea because I never did it.

Also in the part where you shoot around tubes, I remember encountering one of the first noticeable game bugs I faced. Couldn't advance.

I'm coming to the conclusion that it is actually better that new hires do not meet the expectations of all. There is a defining by the judgment and opinions of some(not all that are critical) that speaks rather of itself. Pat has hit me askew several times, but I truly admire his hanging in there and doing his job. It has gotten to the point I am paying more attention to his contributions, once again. If Pat allowed himself, he would probably have good advice on composure in the face of internet hate.

As for this QL, I would pay $30 for it. There is a good chance I will eventually pick it up for a sale at steam. But perhaps not if I am really wanting to play it. I think I had one of these games years back, but this mew HD rebuild looks pretty darn good. Props. to Jeff on one gameplay though. Leap of Faith did seem to want a running jump...

I want that quick save and quick load in more next-gen console games. Next Dishonored and Deus Ex could benefit from that.

This isn't a HD remake so much as it is an entirely new game that is incredibly affordable for what it is. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING from the original has been reused in this remake. Every single thing is new beyond the basic design but even then their are countless changes. Theirfore it cannot be compared price wise to other remakes.

I replayed every oddworld game over 10 times each, I know them better than any series, every single screen of Oddysee is burned in to my brain (to the point this quicklook is of course quite frustrating to watch) and I'm in awe of how much work they've done in this remake to point it is really irritating its console exclusive right now as I want to play it very badly

I would pay $40-$50 for a two pack with the Odyssey and Exodus remakes (assuming they make one). I can't imagine a world where they don't make Exodus and package them together.

I've got other stuff to play so I will wait on a price drop for this, or PS Plus whatever happens first.

The quick save feature is the single best addition anyone could have made to this game. I tried so hard to beat this game multiple times throughout my life and have always given up before reaching the end. Dan probably didn't know since they don't tell you how to mind control until that point in the game, but you can mind control sligs from the very beginning. That is actually part of the reason why he missed some of the hidden Mudokuns. Also not knowing until later that you can jump through the portals would be a major cause of that. It's a game meant to be played multiple times. Once you've learned all the mechanics the first time through you can go back and find all the secrets using the powers you might not have known how to use until much later in the game.

There already seem to be a few in the comments section who have exactly that goal in mind, unfortunately. I think Giant Bomb has needed a little more positivity (but not like new age self-help positivity) and wee bit less cynicism for while. I like the staffs' ability to pick through the BS for us, but sometimes the tone gets a little down during that process. I think Dan brings a lot of good energy to the table and it seems to rub off on others. I think that shows in the quick looks. He's also brought some pretty awesome gems to UPFs as well.

I made that same wrong turn and lost 50 dudes. I was a bit pissed

Also, completely worth the 30 bucks. Come on guys lets support good games.
