Alex might just be the worst Pikmin player on the face of the Earth.

Also WHYYYYYYY are you not using Wiimote/Nunchuck and leaving gamepad ussage for multi-taking assignment? The game is so much more fluid and enjoyable with the wiimote. Stupid GB and their aversion to using the wiimote whenever possible.

you dont lose the map at all! keep it on your lap, scroll around on it, your game pauses, give orders. god, the lack of info and attention paid toward the feature sets in QLs of nintendo games is always painfully apparent. why not try all of the game's control methods when making a video that attempts to show what a game has to offer? Multiplayer bingo mode (which is awesome)? Challenge modes?

sorry, I kind of just hate this QL. Drew just barely saves it

Wow, I only played it on the Wiimote. It looks a lot harder to aim with the gamepad. Why did they not keep the restricted circle around you for the cursor like in 1 and 2? I guess to help throw the new Pikmin types.

Also, amazing how many things they don't know for how much tutorialising the game does. (Live in Europe so finished the story two days ago.)

Rarrr, you can just leave the gamepad next to you. Whenever you interact with the map it pauses the game.

Man, it's been pretty great seeing Drew become more and more comfortable on a mic and on camera. I've of course always liked him, but his personality is starting to come through, and it's charming as heck.

This. As far as I'm concerned, using a wiimote is the only way to play this game, and it works great. Having the gamepad beside you as an overhead map is actually really cool (indispensable once you get into multiple squad management).

I feel like Alex should have gotten an hour or two further before doing this QL, since then he'd have known more of the basics and they could have discussed more about the strategic elements of the game (which IMO are where it really shines).

EDIT: and I can't believe he never showed how you can pause / scroll around the map at any time (probably, he doesn't know this yet)

Yeah, I'd call the landmass on the screen a collision of Australia and Antarctica. So yes, Drew, I suppose this is Earth, there are after all plenty of human artifacts kicking about.

Oh, I love the nostalgia trip of terrible game playing making a game seem worse tahn it is. Let me count the ways:

There was no reason to not bring 100 pikmin in the first place, there was no reason to leave half of the pikmin behind at the river, Alex doesn't seem to understand that the pikmin carrying the thing to the Onion determines the kind of pikmin being generated, the amount of pikmin lost in a single day is staggering...

And most important of all, Alex seems to be playing this with the sticks on the gamepad.

If nerds ranting don't teach you anything else about Pikmin 3, at least learn this: You MUST play this with a Wiimote. Really. It's like the difference between playing a RTS with a controller or with a mouse. You also don't lose the map at all, Alex is also completely wrong about that.

I don't mind not doing a ton of research before quick looks, but guys, if you don't know just say "I don't know" or "I haven't tried that yet".

Seriously, this game is a load better than this looks. Pretty much chosen the worst point to show: just after the first round of tutorials (which obviously wasn't paid attention to) but before the end of the tutorials when the game really gets going (probably after you rescue the captain).

If you don't mind mild spoilers, look at some speed runs of an early section for what the game can be.

Right, now I hate myself for twice being one of those people who bitches over the GB crew playing a game.

You really want to be playing with the Wii Remote. It makes commanding and moving the Pikmin a lot easier. You just keep the Gamepad close by for the touch functions, such as they are. You can also lock on with Z on the Nunchuck and shake the nunchuck to have your Pikmin rush an enemy.

Shame this came out so late, it could have been a shot in the arm for the Wii U, which ultimately looks dead in the ground.

Also, it'd help if this were an astounding game. It just looks pretty cool, not exactly an earth-shattering release.

Another INFURIATING Quick Look brought to you by our beloved Giant Bomb overlords.

PRO TIP: Use the Wii Remote, keep the game pad near you for the map. The game works so much better that way and is actually FUN! Being able to actually point and aim is easy. They should have made the gamepad work like geometry wars.

After today's disastrous campaign, I don't think there will ever be an Alex Navarro Day, an Alex Navarro street, nor even a humble Alex Navarro statue, over there, at the Pikmin planet.

Yikes. That was rough to watch. I know it's hard to play a game and talk at the same time, but the only things I was able to glean from this video were that:

1.) Alex has a fundamental lack of knowledge about the game's controls and mechanics despite having been playing it for a few hours, and;

2.) Alex has a fundamental lack of situational awareness and seems incapable of making the most mundane logical conclusion about what he should be doing at any given time. Even Brad sounded frustrated with the way he was playing.

It's like he was fighting off a panic attack the whole time. I half expected him to throw down the controller at some point and yell, "I can't handle this!" Don't know what the deal was. The game certainly deserved a better showing than that.

Seriously. It strikes me that this would have been a perfect - hell, the perfect - launch title to sate the "core" market and assure fans that this console would be well-supported from the ground up by first party developers.

You're right, it's no killer app, but when the launch window came and went and the WiiU still seemed(s?) emaciated, you have to imagine it'd help.

Honestly, this is a really tempting looking title.

Not tempting enough to make me buy a WiiU, but still, tempting.

Also, not to pile on with everyone else, but it sure would be nice if the GB crew would put in a little more research/practice time before their QLs. This and CoH2 just left me feeling more frustrated than anything else.

Wii mote + nunchuck is absolutely the way to play this game, aiming at stuff with the stick is just so much slower. Play with the wii mote and have your game pad on the side to do multitasking and map stuff.

If past Wii experience has taught me anything, I feel like if I tried to play this with a Wii remote, my cursor would be super shakey and I wouldn't be able to be precise at all. Is it really that much better?

Edit: And I just got to the part where Drew asks about the old C-Stick orbiting. I just assumed the right analog stuck did that. Why would they change something that worked so well?
