After watching some of this, I think I prefer the smash bro's way of scoring points.

I think Jeff is totally right about, the percentage stuff being the good part of Smash Bro's, because this game looks really bad to me but, I love Smash Bro's.

I don't like it... It feels like the system isn't as flexible as Smash Bros with it's ability to knock you out of stages.

Someone as old as you and me, Jeff, will probably remember a time where FPS games were called "Doom clones"

The weird thing about this to me is still that its call Playstation All-Stars and it seems like half the characters are not even PS exclusive characters.

Yep. That's my biggest problem with this game. They stole everything but the most important thing. I would've been totally fine with a complete and total ripoff.

The mixed backgrounds are pretty a cool, but I imagine that gimmick gets stale real fast.

Could be good, I like the flavour and backgrounds but the systems don't look as fun as smash brothers

I find it odd that there is no onscreen point counter for each player during the match. Perhaps this will change in the final product.

I do want to like this game but the mechanics aren't too my liking. I really don't like the way you get kills.

Also, no falls is kind of lame, makes each stage feel more like a shoebox.

I guess I like the bombast hitting people so hard they fly off the screen and die lends.

Yeah, the scoring system is really weird, and seems dumb on the surface.

They should have dug deeper with characters. Damn shame.

As someone who played a ton of Smash Brothers back in the day, this looks terrible. They would have been better off just copying Smash Brothers wholesale because the scoring system just seems random and not fun at all. The strange stage combinations look cool, but that's just about it.

What is wrong with PaRappa's voice?... What is wrong with the way he looks?

So the peanut gallery is going from slamming the game because it's "obviously a complete rip-off" of Smash Brothers, to slamming the game for it not being identical enough to Smash Brothers... internets, sigh.

I sure hope they play some Sir Dan.

I've been playing since yesterday, and yeah it's pretty much smash brothers. It's fun though, so I'm glad they're taking the obvious bullet and doing what they can. The system could use a little tweaks, and the beta could definitely use more music (better music). As someone who played pretty much around 400 hours of brawl, the polish that game has over this one is overwhelming, but that would be unfair since this is a beta.

Changing background are cool, but this game seems bad.

Stages seem so static compared to Smash. And that is not a good thing!

Wow such a weak attempt. Looks more alpha than beta, I really hope this isn't feature complete. No ring outs suck, the scoring system sucks, the menus look terrible. Does getting hit really have no effect at all? What about the controls? Are there normal/special attacks in every direction, rolls, sidesteps, smash attacks...? I was rooting for this game since I love smash bros. but this looks bad.

Onimusha Blade Warriors up in this.

As someone who has no interest in Smash Brothers, this actually looks like it could be fun. Still not sure how I like all the systems, but the inclusion of online makes it much more accessible to me then the couch co-op of Smash Brothers.

This actually looks like... it wont be that good. I don't like the idea of NEEDING to use supers to kill at all.

I think what interest I had in this game is gone, but I'll wait until I can play the beta later in the fall and make a final decision then.

I actually like what they're doing with the system. The not showing of score is because they don't want someone in the lead to just run away until the match ends (at least I believe they said that at some point). I'd rather have this instead of just ring-outs all over again. However, I don't really care for timed modes at all, but I'm sure they'll include some sort of stock-equivalent in the final product.

As someone who has never owned a modern Nintendo console, I am stoked about this game, wanted to try out Smash Brothers for the longest time

I think the whole thing kinda feels off in that regard because the top Playstation games were almost all Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, and Grand Theft Auto.  Kratos and Nathan Drake are really the only guys that will come off as really a Playstation "Star", everything else is kind of Sony's B-List.  A Nissan Skyline GT-R should totally be a playable character.

Is the Pokemon franchise legally tied to Nintendo? I always thought it was its own entity.

Nintendo owns the majority of Pokemon.

Releasing a Vita version is just a waste of money. It's doing horribly in Japan and sold less than 50k in US last month.
