Quick Look: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad

Never played the first one, but this looks quite fun actually.

Is it just me or does the multiplayer look considerably worse than the single player?

You guys make for an excellent QL team, very entertaining and nice overview of the game. Now, I've gotta admit that the BF series is about as complex as I personally need my wargames to be but I'm fascinated nonetheless. I don't think I'm really gonna play this but there's something to the idea of trying to mulate the experience of actually controlling tanks with all the crew being played by indiviadual players. Even Company of Heroes' strategic take on elaborate tank simulation amazed me.

Interested to see this! Not the kind of game that usually gets a Quick Look. But first, work :(

@gladspooky: Essentialky a "tactical shooter" is one which simulates, to more of an extent than other games, realistic combat. Slowing the pace of the game and making tactics more important than just quick reflexes. It doesn't mean you can't play it badly and non-tactically though.

More PC quicklooks with Drew and/or Dave!

Gotta love Red Orchestra :D also these guys did a really good quick look on this one, enough prior knowledge of what happens in the game to show off the main features fairly well. Also with the ammo thing when you get a new magazine it says if it is heavy or light to tell you roughly how much ammo you have, so you have some more indication that way at least.

Drew and Dave? Hell yea give me Vinny and youll have my heart.

This game is running super buggy on my computer, but once you get in the zone, this game rules.

I agree. Good QL team here. Informative, positive, and they have a similar interest in games as me. I recall Dave digging E.Y.E. as well.

Great QL guys, for some reason I was getting really tense when Drew was shooting at that Russian tank near the end. I guess waiting for the action makes it that much sweeter when it finally arrives.

The accents in this game are downright offensive. I can´t fucking stand listening to this crap german-english tutorial dude at all. Dudes should talk German and Russian. Have some damn realism in your "realistic" WWII 

 
You can change the VO in the menu.

The auto-suicide when changing role is very annoying. They need to make it an option to do that or to have the role change on your next respawn. You know, like how pretty much every other game does it.

The blindfire mechanic where you actually can't see what your shooting at is great. More games should do it like that.

Nice! Original VO adds so much to any game. I barely speak any Russian, but Metro is absolutely amazing with the original VO. Feels like you´re there.

The high pings are because the servers are in Russia/Europe

Yes! I knew Dave was a good choice for PC games, but I was impressed when I heard Drew mention that he played America's Army (I'm assuming on the PC, as I did). It seems like these guys have a little more patience for the more calculated pacing of some PC games than some of the other staff.

@gladspooky: While the quicklook was fun to watch, they didn't play it the way it's supposed to be played - they tried be extra-entertaining and, as a result, just gave viewers a good look at the death screen. Bummer.

Properly played, the game can be extremely tactical. I'd recommend you to look at some youtube videos of pros/enthusiasts playing it, if you want to know whether the game really is something for you. Personally, I love it.

Nice. I'm definitely gonna pick it up next time it goes on sale.

Really impressed with the ironsights and hip shooting. Battlefield still uses the center of the screen as the impact point, whereas RO2 adjusts the aim based on the gun's angle. I'd like to see this with Razer Hydra controls mapped to it.
