This game was incredibly over-hyped. I think it should be played with an open mind to thoroughly enjoy it.

Brad: "I'm only this good at the game because of 15-20 hours....15-20 hours...had it not been for me playing for 15-20 hours..."

Brad effs up.

Jeff: "Well that's the kind of quality play you expect after 15-20 hours."

I love Giantbomb.

Jeff will love this.

Also the complaints about the game not communicating respawning enemies...what game really does that? I can't think of a single game where you get some prompt that it says "oh hey the enemies keep coming back, better keep moving".

I can't think of a game that does it either, but it's still a justifiable complaint.

Some games do give you a prompt or hint on screen such as "survive" or "defeat the waves" or something similar..

Modern Warfare 2 is the first game that jumps to mind for me. A lot of spots in that game where you're clearly supposed to just fucking book it and run. The ice level, the favela chase scene, the woods before you get burned, etc.

The problem is while I totally trust that Brad and Patrick are accurately portraying the less the many problems of this game, at some stage I will pay money for this game and complain about how bad it is.

I think the sticking point here is that, if memory serves me correctly, past Resident Evil games have had specific limits to the enemies. Like in RE4 where you'd try to draw specific enemies to come and fight you in a more advantageous position. This allows you to maximize your efficiency, avoid unnecessarily dangerous situations, and conserve your items. If you just have endless enemies and your side character isn't saying something like, "We better get out of here. These things just keep coming!", you may have little indication that what you've learned from past experiences with managing enemy encounters doesn't apply here.

Considering this is RE6 and they can assume most people have played the previous games, it wouldn't be awful if they informed or tipped off the player that things may have changed on this and past survival horror tactics no longer serve much of a purpose. This fits with Brad and Patrick's impression that the game is often withholding of useful information for little to no reason.

i'm sure it would help, but it wouldn't change the subpar story or the excessive QTEs.

just sounds like this is an even more divisive game than RE5 was. if they can fix the fundamentally broken parts MAYBE it would only be as polarizing as RE5. also brad's playing is fine.

I knew this game was going to be bad, I didn't even have to look into it to know it was going to be terrible. Thanks for the Quick Look, it made my mind very clear to stay away from this game.

Shook my head on the ILM video when Brad and Patrick said they didn't discover the evade until either the end or after their first campaign. I figured that out when I was just jacking around in the demo. If this is the way they are going to act when games don't show you every little move, I never want to hear a complaint about too much hand-holding again. Bleh. Also, his "this only looks okay because I've played for so long" thing is ridiculous. My brother and I play about this well, and we're only up to halfway through Leon's campaign. It's not that hard or janky if you just cooperate with the game.

@TruthTellah: I don't know. I couldn't get very far into RE4 because I side with Jeff in that I think that game is hot garbage, but didn't it start out with an infinite enemies segment that it didn't tell you was infinite? You just keep fighting and fighting and fighting until a church bell randomly rings and everybody walks away?

Just like RE5 went down in the series' history as the most overrated entry, RE6 will probably go down as the most underrated entry so far. The game has its fair share of flaws but it looks like the criticism really got blown out of proportion here (and on the bombcast). Often it seems the guys are grasping for straws in order to say something negative and many of those things were already prevalent in RE5 (for example, the story and many bosses were abysmal, the controls/movement were much less suited to an action game than RE6's controls/movement etc.). But the press praised that game nonetheless and the hype reviews clashed with the perception of the game among gamers which crystallized in the months following the release. Now it seems many press outlets want to make good on that by giving RE6 a harder time than it really deserves. I'm really curious to find out what the general attitude towards RE6 will be like in a year or two.

I mean okay, they don't like it. That's fine, I'm not a big Biohazard fan either. Just not my cup of tea, especially the recent ones.

Still, it seems they came down REALLY hard on it on the bombcast and it doesn't seem THAT terrible to me. For what they said about it, I was expecting this to be a total disaster.

It's hysterical because you bought the game and refuse to admit that it isn't very good.

Whether someone enjoys a game or not isn't for someone else to decide. You're basically saying there is one universally correct way to view a game.. that's bullshit.

Your right that is a good point I did not intend to mean that there is only one way to view a game. Everyone has different impressions. But to me the core mehanics of a game being good or bad isn't really opinion based. If something doesn't work as well as it should I think that isn't an opinion.

That is an excuse that I rarely believe. I was watching the gameplay situations, not Brad's gameplay, and never was there a situation presented that required you to play 15 hours to get good at. It was standard run, point and shoot. I'm saying Brad is wrong, I was just saying that I wasn't seeing his complaints. At all.

@LiquidPrince: I don't know. There's something to be said for learning how to deal with a game's quirks. I could totally see someone just starting out with RE6 having a really hard time dealing with the specific button prompts and QTEs and the way enemies react (vs how you'd expect them to react) and how the game generally feels. It seemed like Brad kind of had it down pat, knew when to expect the game to glitch and an enemy to get back up, etc.

I can't speak to RE6 specifically, but I quit RE4 because, like Jeff, I hated the laser sight mechanic, felt like the aim was floaty and weird, I couldn't deal with the quirks of how Leon moves and turns and whatnot, how he can't move and shoot, etc. It just felt weird and off-putting so I quit. Dead Space, on the other hand, felt like someone felt the exact way I did and wanted to fix it all. It was natural. I didn't have to learn the quirks.

When I played Shadows of the Damned, I stuck with it and learned how to work around the sometimes awkward controls. If you watched me play the end of that game, you'd think it was a fairly intuitive control system, but that's not really true. You'd just be watching me play it after I'm used to it. If you'd seen me at the beginning, it'd be much different.

@MackDaddicus: I think you're wrong. If anything, you should be one the lookout for score inflation. I'm happy to say GiantBomb is not in danger of that, reviews of Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2 and Resident Evil 6 prove this. Brad's played enough of this game to know how he feels about it. GiantBomb does not engage with other reviewers while reviewing a game, it's their policy. Maybe he was lead to believe this by the shit game he was playing. You should read less into things.

Also, you should have more confidence in professional game journalists. Especially on smaller sites like GiantBomb that stay as independent as possible. Most of them been doing this for a long time, and they're just as capable of making independent descisions as you and me. Chill out. Have faith.

I disagree with Jeff on plenty of games, but I never got the Resident Evil hype either (though I felt 5 had some pretty good co-op). 4 seemed to drag and I didn't have fun playing it, while the appeal of 1 and 2 to me were the giant snake and that alligator.

I need to play some of this just to see how it feels. These low scores seem excessively low. Other games get a pass on a crap story and faulty gameplay, so I'm curious if the game is as broken as they say.

@whatisdelicious: I picked this game up today, just to see how it truly is, and it's pretty awesome. I have died twice in the two hours that I have played, but it's never been cheap. It's been my own fault. I'm about to start chapter 3 of Leon. I'm not trying to be a contrarian, but unless the game just gets way way harder in the forseeable future, I think that Brad is wrong on this one.

Basically, check out the word "dialect" in a dictionary or on Google/Wikipedia/what-have-you.
From Wkipedia, "A dialect is distinguished by its vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation (phonology, including prosody)."
