I've been playing it a bunch too and I think it's a lot of fun... I love Resident Evil when it's super goofy, not scary and has that sort of Japanese feel that you get from games that rely being gamey and mechanical, rather than floaty and immersive.

Like, for instance, the most expensive skill you get is the ability to dodge-cancel, which speaks to the depth of the systems.

Raid mode's great too and the way you play the different characters to compliment their skills, rather than their loadout.

Like RE4 and 5 Mercenaries you still need to conserve ammo by setting enemies up for melee finishers.

Gamespot thought that Moira is very sweary in their review, which is an odd, but accurate thing to point out. I don't really get why the fuck people are so fucking against fucking swearing... That's just the way some fucking people fucking talk, right? :D

Also, I think 6 gets a lot of unjust critique. It is a mechanically sound game, which only real issue is that it takes control away from you way too often... Sorta like The Order 1886.

Spend some time with mercenaries, understanding the stamina system, counter system and quick shot system of the game and I think even Brad would like it.

This game seems to be... not good if you're not in it for the Raid mode.

The references in this game are incredibly stupid. Referential RE is THE WORST.

A complete reboot is what this series needs.

That being said, the value proposition is pretty great indeed.

I'm not sure which wires got crossed, but I totally forgot about RE: Revelations and have been living under the assumption that this was an HD remastering of Resident Evil 2.

I enjoyed the 30min I played of this. Also the bit with the Claire sandwich was amazing.

I would have guessed original Xbox before Xbox One based on the look.

But then I heard the price point and realized that it probably is not a big budget game. So good on them for trying something new with the franchise. Looks pretty fun!

Raid mode is a blast so far !

Might get this just for the Raid mode. I played a good bit of that in the last Revolutions.

Man, they've re-used a lot of animations from RE6 in this.

I don't mind though, RE6 was an alright game and this looks good.

Looks pretty good. Think I'll wait for it to be released on disc though especially if it has bonus weapons and costumes. Also want to hear what Dan thinks of the next couple episodes to see if it changes things up a bit. Getting out of the prison at the end was a nice surprise and makes me think this could be a game I would like to play.

I honestly like the lock picking in the new Thief. I know its simple and copies from stuff but I like the consequences of going too fast and being imprecise creating noises that bring guards attention

@hassun: 100%, this entire series needs to jettison everything and start over, because at this point the stories are basically indecipherable. I for one would also like for the games to return to their roots as survival-horror instead of the weird Gears of War/QTE-fest mashup of nonsense they've devolved into.

I would never have predicted 10 years ago that the movies would end up telling a more coherent, satisfying narrative than the games, but that's where we are. But if RE5 wasn't going to be their way to wash their hands of the baggage and start fresh, then I think it's about as likely that Capcom will just kill the series instead of try and start over at this point. I kind of hope that they are willing to 'Silent Hills' the franchise with new ideas, but I'm no longer holding my breath. Maybe I never should have.

At least it's trying to be older RE I guess. The raid mode looks like the only reason to get it though from what I'm seeing/hearing. Them, meaning Capcom, lying about the local co-op on PC means they can wait though, price point be damned.

Everyone keeps shitting on 6, it's actually a bunch of fun if you learn how to play it (which the game doesn't do a good job teaching)

I found 6 to be a lot of fun when I could make fun of it with another person.

I hate that these games moved away from the laser sight and started having a constant onscreen crosshair, doesn't have nearly the same satisfaction in the shooting

I agree. I beat every campaign with a friend and we didn't have a terrible time.

I first heard the name Moira in the movie Hook, back in the day. Probably one of my top 10 favorite pirate-themed movies, but it may not have aged well (it's been a long time since I last saw it). I thought Dustin Hoffman's portrayal of the titular character was great and while it's not the best Robin Williams movie, it probably IS my favorite with Julia Roberts.

You might like to know RERev 2 has an option to switch between Crosshair and Laser.

As for the game itself, man, I went into this not knowing what to expect. I really disliked RE6, it never sat right with me, but I remembered liking Revelations on my 3DS. I went back to the PC version of Revelations last week, remembering I'd gotten it cheap on a steam sale, and I had a blast. Outside of Claire, Moira and Barry, I knew nothing about Revelations 2, and I only got it because I'd like the first Revelations on PC so much, that I'd felt bad not getting it when it came out.

Sat down, and 5 hours later I was watching the "Next time on Resident Evil Revelations 2" video. I'd not only finished it, I'd done it in one go, which is something I don't often do. I liked all the characters, I liked the setting, I really liked how it played, and I just sort blasted my way through it, often with a doofy grin on my face. I laughed at the "Sandwich" conversation because I love dumb stuff, and chuckled at the "Master of Unlocking" because of its delivery.

I guess it also doesn't hurt that I really like the Raid Mode.

They should make a Resident Evil MMORPG where 1/2 the people are Redfield/Valentines etc. and 1/2 are zaaaaambies.

Maybe I've just been on GiantBomb too long, but I've definitely heard the term "herb" for weed before, and I'm right in the middle of Illinois.

@larrydavis: Well, I guess apart from taking control away from you so often, they also from rather linear design. Too few open spaces to really open up for interesting firefights and add a few interesting twists to subsequent replays, but at least it has Mercenaries to give it a leg up.

The Order 1886 of course suffers further by not having a semblance of really interesting boss fights. It's a basic cover shooter, but you could still create boss encounters with clever level design that has you rely more on pattern recognition than button prompt recognition... Even a basic Horde mode would have been something.
